Little Michigan man on the way. Gift ideas?
Must haves?
Sleep now.
Protip: There is a golden period from the time they start sleeping through the night until the time they are mobile and start getting into everything that's not nailed down. It lasts about a year.
Milk this period as hard as you can. Your life is hell before that and is hell after that, up until you can trust them to walk around safely.
But until they are mobile they are like a brick . . . they'll stay where you put them. We would be able to put our son in his detachable car seat, carry him into fancy restaurants, and just sit him on the table until we were done. We would time it so that it was when it was his time to sleep. You did not even know he was there.
Once he was mobile and could reach for everything, it was over. A trip to McDonalds was an epic logistical event.

I will be honest and say that I don't miss the days where if we were going to attend an event on, say, Saturday, we had to start staging things sometime on Thursday afternoon just so we could leave when we thought we should leave on Saturday. The first time we took the kids to Chicago to see my wife's extended family, I think we started packing about 10 days in advance. Now that they are 9 and 8, it is somewhat simpler although "No, you cannot bring all the toys - you have to pack some clothes at least" can still be heard sometimes.
You'd think it gets easier as they get older. It doesn't.
My kids are 17 and 14 and they still take forever to get out of the house when we are going somewhere. Only difference is they pack their own shit now.
And then when you do prevent them from touching (or eating or throwing) things, they scream bloody murder and nobody wants to be around you.
It's only temporary, but it feels like it will never end at the time. That's a part of parenting I don't miss.
Vaya con dios, amigo.
Jim.
Okay, compromise:
Jimbo.
How about Bo James?
Problem solved....he will be wearing Michigan gear as soon as he enters the world.
I visit Mden on occasion and pick up outfits for my grandkids to wear on game day. They ahve been wearing Michigan gear since infancy. It's good training to break them in early.
Congrats...
Wife gave birth to our first child at Von Voigtlander a week ago today. No sign of said block M beanie. Maybe they stopped doing this?
I was born in the university's hospital system in the early 80s. If they gave me a beanie, there's no evidence of it. My sister born 4 years later didn't get a beanie, either.

stay north of that
Agree. Both times the doc/nurse has enlisted my help holding a leg, and it's nice to have had some small part to play -- avoids the helpless "what the heck do I do now?" father syndrome that plagues so many.
Protip: it does look a bit scary. Yeah, the head looks small/mishapen/like it's getting smushed in this process. That's OK. I was someone had told me that in advance. The first time I was all like "oh crap, is he OK? That doesn't look right..."
End thread. Best answer by far.
I cannot imaging a crowning whoha framed by "M Club Supports You" is going the type of support MGoMom is looking for.
Just sayin'
"wee wolverines" little stuffed animals. . .
An MGoNanny.
an MGoNightNurse is more like it. The daytime care is easy by comparison.
A baby nurse is the greatest use of a small fortune, especially for a first time parent.

Harbaugh.
I hear he's an experienced babysitter.
wins over Sparty and OSU, and a bowl win.
That's not to much to ask, is it?
You'll probably find yourself reading to him a lot. I suggest things like "Bo's Lasting Lessons" and "Football for Player and Spectator" as good starting points. It doesn't really matter what you read, only that you speak in a soothing voice, so you may as well read something that you enjoy.
Once I ran out of Michigan titles I switched to Hemingway.
Congrats.
There is also a baby book titled Let's Go Blue from the Carr era that was still being sold on campus as of the first UTL (edit: link to book on Amazon below). All about two Michigan fans walking across campus to go watch the football game, watching the team run onto the field and the band performing at halftime. Ends with the kids giving Coach Carr a high five when Michigan wins. Was my son's favorite book.

A ticket to The Game. Duh.
Short term: A blanket, with lots of patterns and pictures of wolverines.
Long term: Start a college fund. It's something both the parents and the kid can enjoy.
Congrats!
