I'm surprised by all the Earle suggestions--I have tried several times but always leave disappointed.
Common Grill is fantastic if you leave A2.
FRITA BATIDOS DON'T GIVE A FUCK EVERY TIME.
It's not the "fanciest" but Gratzi is my favorite restaurant here.
I totally forgot about Gratzi! Now I have to go when I'm home.
For Rita's nacho dip.
Another vote for Gandy Dancer. Their Sunday Brunch is the bomb too!
The Earle. Solid food and an astounding wine selection. Very nice atmosphere. Overall best place for a fancy dinner. Logan and Vinology are also great choices.
Chop House is terribly overrated. Maybe I went when the chef was out sick.

I like Weber's (westside) and Melange.
I haven't read all the comments, but from a brief perusal can tell I'm echoing a lot of what has already been said. I'm a big fan of the Earle. If you like delmonico steaks, get the biftek grille. The whitefish, salmon and duck are great there as well.
If you're looking for more seafood options, Real Seafood is always solid.
I'd say it depends on what you're looking for. People will disagree about what is the best/fanciest, so I'd also break it down by food.
Steak - Chop House. Fancy vibe (in my opinion it has the fanciest "vibe") although all of thse are pretty fancy and I've done anniversaries/celebrations at them.
Italian - I'd go Earle over Gratzi. Both are good, Earle slightly fancier in my opinion. Also French menu items too more than just Italian like Gratzi.
Asian - Pacific Rim
American - Logan
Mexican - Prickly Pear. Not as fancy, but if you want Mexican go there.
Of course, I'd try to talk my wife into Mr. Spots - chicken fingers w/ honey mustard + wings? Done. Maybe not for a wedding anniversary because I do like myself a good foodie spend, but find another excuse for that.
WEG is by far the best for an anniversary. I have yet to find a place with better service. I love the Chop House but for a romantic setting you cant beat West End Grill.
Logan and Pacific Rim get my votes.
Mani Osteria is amazing and worth the effort if there is a wait. Everything is very well prepared, the wine selection is solid, and the bar does a good job. I'm a big fan of Lena. They happen to make a really good mojito so you can channel your inner Hemingway (Ernest, not Junior). The food is different from the rest of the places on Main. Recently sat outside at Sava's on State St. Food is above average, and the atmosphere in their small courtyard is excellent.
House, first choice. Earle, second choice.
