OT: What's your favorite Ann Arbor food item?
I'm joining the fray of irrelevant non-football posts. If you were sentenced to a lifetime of solitary confinement, but the one concession was that you could eat your favorite Ann Arbor food every night for dinner, what would it be? Only one item, like the Bibimbop from Steve's Lunch (the old timers will remember) or the Georgia Reuben from Zingerman's.

they are free range vermin
ain't got nothing on the Triple Play Reuben at Maize 'n' Blue Deli. Yum.
Double-Plus Good on you sir for the Steve's Lunch Bi-Bim-Bop call. That's old school.
Also on my short list:
Falafel sandwich at Jerusalem Garden.
Anything from Le Dog.
Sister Annie at Pizza Bob's.
Frozen burrito microwaved and shoplifted from Stop-N-Rob at 2:30 in the morning when I blew all my cash on beer at Rick's.
Hands down. No question about it.
Ate it 2x/week in school and still do it 2x/weekend every time I go back to campus.
Pad Basil, Medium or Yoga Flame with Chicken - was and still is my order
I love all things spicy, all day, all night. However, the one time I ever did Yoga Flame was a carry out I ate during a business fraternity meeting.
Never again. Was in a suit & tie...whole new meaning to feeling "hot under the collar". Full of regrets still to this day.
Respect for making that your go-to.

Fair, completely fair on paper. Think I just met my match with Yoga Flame for some reason. Feel like I've had spicier options at a number of places...went to a fundraiser at Bar Louie the other day and their "en fuego" wings were a yawn.
That first match with YF was back in 2007 though. I'm all grown up now, maybe it's time for a rematch or even DM. Might be PPV worthy.

That's my exact order minus the broccoli. I'll have to try it with next time. I am always stuffed, No Thai is like two good meals for 8 bucks.
Palio's Baked Asiago appetizer.
Solitary for life ain't bad if life doesn't last long
EDIT: May have to pick Angelo's French Toast (with raisins). The last few times I've gotten omlettes with toast on the side. As long as there's bread...

The only answer!
Frita with chorizo, avocado, egg, muenster and all the extras. It wouldn't be a long life, but it would be a delicious one.
BTB, Mr. Spots.
from the chop house. Rare. They're delicious, and if I'm eating one every day I'll probably have a heart attack within a few years. Thus freeing me from my solitary confinement with the sweet release of death.
Buckeye tear soup
If you're looking for that style of place/burger I'd go for Great Plains on Plymouth. pricy but they do a good job. Frita Batidos is still standard for best burger IMO.
Agree. I'm not a cheapskate, but Elevation Burger is like $14 for a standard burger with fries and a drink. If I'm paying that, I'm at least going to Blimpy and getting a massive burger.
Now that I've been away from Ann Arbor for almost a decade, I can confidently say the food I miss most is Blimpy Burger. Quad with bacon, grilled onions, peppers, and cheddar; ketchup mustard and bbq sauce; kaiser bun; onion rings; root beer. And now I just made myself really hungry.
You forgot... with egg on top.
...and quint instead of quad.
Damn I miss that fried zuccini as well.
I left just over 30 years ago and I miss the Blimpy Burger.
I'm mostly in agreement there. Been to the new location three times as well, and the burgers have been just ok compared to the old location. It must have something to do with the new employees, because it doesn't appear the quality of ingredients has changed.
It's been only seven years away for me but what I miss most (other than Zingerman's Georgia reuben, which was mentioned in the OP and which is goddamn delicious) is cheese waffle fries from Red Hot Lovers. Put that grated cheddar in the paper cup, melt it in the microwave, pour it over the just-right waffle fries...oh god my stomach growled just thinking about it.
#2 (corned beaf) from Zingerman's with a spicy ginger ale to drink.
Poor man's version: Fleetwood hash with corned beef and american cheese. Also acceptable is the meaty hippie hash (with corned beef OR gyro meat).
The OP nailed it in passing. The Bi Bim Bop at Steve's Lunch was for the ages. It cost only $5.50 or so, and would fill you up for half a day. And the atmosphere was great too.
I was sorry to see Steve's Lunch shut down.
Frita Badita's Chorizo Frita
pretty much antywhere other than Orlando.
/not fond of Florida. Almost died there in 2012. Wife almost died there in 2010.
We won't be going back. Ever.
I have to know what happened now....
Long boring stories follow:
We went in 2010 to take our then 11? year old daughter to Disney etc and to see the last night launch of the space shuttle, which is still the most awesome thing I've ever seen in person. It was during the spring and the tree pollen was so high that you couldn't see the paint on my black car. It was just this weird shade of yellow/green.
I woke one night around 4 am to find my wife with blue lips and skin, barely able to breathe. Took her straight to the hospital and they got her sorted out in a few hours. But they also gave her steroids (as they should have given her condition). Steroids make my wife completely insane. Crying one minute, trying to rape me the next, then laughing uncontrollably before crying again. Ruined the rest of the trip.
I spent the next 6 months fighting with our health insurance company to get them to cover at least a portion of the bill. When I did the math later, the 2 hour hospital visit cost us more than the rest of the trip combined.
In 2013 we met her entire family down there for a trip to Disney/Universal and a few days in Naples. This time we had our then 1.5 year old son along as well.
We all got norovirus, or something that made our insides turn to liquid and come out both ends. First time in my life I actually felt like I was dying. We had exactly 48 hours of an 8 day vacation illness free.
The universe is telling me to stay the fuck out of Florida. I'm going to listen this time.
Yep.
That's it for me.
Packing as soon as I'm home.
I lived in Tampa for a few years and was almost struck by lightining, nearly run over 40 times biking/running, went into anaphylactic shock from a red ant attack, saw sharks when swimming, had a gator try to get in our pool, had snakes in our garage all the time, read the worst police blotters you could imagine, and found out there were 500 registered sex offenders within 2.5 miles of our neighborhood.
Farewell, forever, FLA.
Grew up in Miami. Hate Florida. Though Orlando has Disney, so there's that. But leaving the resort is a no-no.
Can't narrow it down to one.
Kang's Bi Bim Bop
Ashley's Lineman burger
Le Dog Lobster Bisque
Maize n Brew-not sure what its called but Pastrimi, onions, fried egg
Dominick's pizza
Fleetwood Hippie Hash
South Quad Chicken Brocoli bake
Was wondering if someone would say Le Dog. Have to time the out-of-town visit well to get the lobster bisque though.
