NCAA Basketball Tournament - Nailing Down The Final Four (Open Thread)
Alright, folks, we've got half of the Final Four - we'll know the other half today. On CBS, we have:
2:20 PM - Michigan State vs. Louisville (line is MSU -2.5, I think)
5:05 PM - Duke vs. Gonzaga (line is Duke -2.0, last I saw)
My picks in the ESPN Bracket were Louisville and Duke, but I have MSU and Gonzaga in my yearly "chaos bracket" too.
This comment is approved by, and arouses, Rick Pitino.
fuck state go louisville

on every play.
I think Skeletor can hang with the Midget from a coaching perspective. Hopefully Louisville steps up their shooting this game.
I am in the minority here but I am rooting for an all Big Ten final with wisky taking it all.
Why would the refs have anymore incentive to give Izzo the edge over Pitino? Use your brain.
It's not like Pitino is just some upstart.
Lol did you see the last MSU game thread? MGoBlog might as well have been RCMB with all the stupidity and whining.
There are a couple insanely insecure people like Butterfield here who can't handle MSU having any sort of success. It's not like everyone or even most people here are being so butt-hurt about it.
as they immediately jumped out at me as a very underrated seed in the weakest region that could very well make it out. Once they took out Virginia (not a shock, Virginia played a very favorable unbalanced ACC schedule) and Villanova fell (not a shock, while Villanova "took care of business" very nicely during the season, they didn't exactly face Murderer's Row), MSU became the plurality favorite to make it to the Final Four.
You never know, but my gut says their lucky draw ends in the next round against Duke.
wouldn't be a gut call--it would be picking the favorite
Louisville just cheated us out of the National Championship two lousy years ago, yes, it was the refs, but Louisville was the recipients, it made me happy to see their tears today. In a way, little brother extracted a small level of revenge for us, and I hate Louisville, Kentucky, and Duke more than MSU, but that is just me.
This Louisville-MSU game is going to set basketball back 20 years. Such a contrast from the great Wisconsin-Arizona game.
The quality of play was better 20 years ago when only the most exceptional players left early. OK, maybe that was 25+ years ago
I've given this a lot of thought over the years. Jalen, Webber and Howard would have been locks to leave after the '91-'92 season. With a good year, Jimmy King could have left after the '92'-93 season, but it seems more likely he stays until the '94 NBA draft. Freddy Jackson seemed like a 4-year player.
With anyone? They avoided the #1 seed in the region and the #2 seed in that region was the weakest #2 seed.
No one seriously thought Virginia was a national title contender.
The fact that they were placed in the region with the weakest #1 seed doesn't make what MSU did impressive. That #1 seed should have went to Arizona.
And how Villanova was rated higher than Wisconsin is absolutely baffling.
If you think they would have beaten Arizona you are crazy. The fact they they got put in the weakest bracket is luck its not skill. When the brackets were released everyone pointed to that as far and away the weakest bracket.
Had they been the seven seed in Gonzaga or Arizona's bracket they are out in the second round. No rational person would argue otherwise.
This isn't just hate for Sparty. People said that UCLA got to the sweet 16 because they got a very fortunate draw. All those people aren't UCLA haters.
ND is a rival and I think most would say their performance was very impressive, much more so than Sparty's.
ND is hated by Michigan fans and most fans in every sport.
Anyone who doubts this or otherwise feels any sympathy for ND should think about the leprechaun cheerleader. He was at the game last night. Doing his thing.
To my list of hated programs, but even I was rooting for them to beat Kentucky, and they were game, but just fell short.
would have happened had Arizona and Michigan State met because they didn't meet. We all know how the Spartans did against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game, however, and they played the Badgers well. That would suggest they would give Arizona a game.
Have you noticed that MSU has taken both ND and Wisconsin to overtime this year? Keep hating, but my goodness, think things through a bit. MSU has flaws, but you act like blind luck got them to the final four this year. Or made them lose in the BTT final in overtime. Or beat Maryland and OSU in the BTT.
Whatever. Hate away. MSU is in the final four.................. Again.
and led 56-55 until Villanova hit a jumper with 16 seconds to go.
They've now beaten the consensus #36, #15, #13, and #6 teams en route to a Final Four. They're playing exceptionally well. Get over it.
Duke or Gonzaga are going to bomb whoever wins this game back to the stone age. I think each team has missed 15 shots already.
If nothing else, I have to hear the story that is behind the name Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn. They promised to tell it at some point.
It has only been 4 minutes, but the anticipated plodding start to this game definitely materialized.
you get a great first name like Lourawls, you don't need a nickname.
Aside: why does anyone cover him--I mean at all?

they can go fast, they can slow, and everything in between. They got great players, a great coach...truly, Kentucky better bring their "A +" game or they may taste defeat for the first time this year.
Better hope Dekker n co can shoot 10/12 from the 3 again b/c that's the only chance they got against Kentucky.
Kaminsky is going to get abused like he got last year.
Did you miss the ND game last night? Kentucky is very good, but they are by no means unbeatable. Wisconsin is a lot better than ND.
