NO. BAD BUSINESS SOPHOMORE. GO AWAY
“The Victors” could soon have a modernistic younger sibling.
If a resolution presented to the Central Student Government on Tuesday night passes, the body will provide funding to a group of students looking to develop an additional thematic song to play at University athletics events.
Central Student Government.
I don't know who you are. If you're looking for jobs I can tell you I don't have any. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired from the internet. Skills that make me a nightmare for people who will be in job interviews with people who have googled you. If you vote this down unanimously, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for your facebook photos. I will not scour your instagram. But if you vote for this, I will find your linkedin. I will find your whole internet. And I will kill your search results.
dude annihilated his twitter page two seconds after I found it
The patient zeroes:
Business sophomore Adam Weiss, a representative on the CSG Assembly, spoke on behalf of the song campaign, which he called “Hail and Unite.” He said his friend, LSA senior Mike Weinberg, conceptualized the project.
“This project is meant to be, number one, extremely unique,” Weiss said. “The goal of this song is to get a lot of big names that are associated with the University.”
"Extremely unique." #expelAdamWeiss

It is pretty shady that Brian published the public Twitter feed of a guy named Adam Weiss who goes by the super-secret internet pseudonym "Adam Weiss."

This made me chuckle. I like you, you lovable dog in Michigan gear.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:29 PM ^
Indeed. And it is perfectly all right that Brian attacks and threatens the guy because of an idea he espoused, because otherwise Brian could be accused of acting like some kind of an adult.

doing this kid a favor. Current law student and we have been lectured ad nauseam about social media profiles. About half the hiring partners I have talked to say they do a quick Google search and social media search for candidates that reach the interview stage. They also said they have shredded applications as a result of their findings.
February 11th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
That was entertaining.
February 11th, 2015 at 6:28 PM ^
This so much this!!!
February 11th, 2015 at 12:32 PM ^
Agreed 100%. This is a heinous idea, but why tear the kid down personally for laying himself out there? The way I see it, he's trying to contribute something to his school. That's great and we shoud foster that mentality. So what if it sucks? The idea will get shot down instantly. At least he has the drive to try and do something while still in undergrad. His idea deserves scorn, but posting his personal details and threatening to end his career? That's insane. It's abusive, it's stalkerish, and it's shameful. To those saying that business decisions open you up to criticism, yes they do. This isn't a business decision. He's a sophomore student. He's not the CEO of fucking Ford Motor Company. Relax. Even if he was, the level of personal attacks is completely uncalled for. It's wildly inappropriate for a blog of this stature with such a diffuse readership to attack someone in this manner. I love Brian's writing. He's unquestionably brilliant. But this is a collosal mistake.

Saying that he's making himself a public figure is stretching the truth to the point of ridiculousness. He proposed a funding grant at CSG...

And the Washington Post caught wind of it, no doubt from here given the linked tweets in the article. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2015/02/11/two-michig…

LSA senior Mike Weinberg, the one who "conceptualized the project", also actually played Kevin McCallister in Home Alone 4 (not kidding). So he's definitely not new to shitty remakes.

I just wonder how Brian didn't link him to Brandon already. There's a conspiracy here, sheeple.
February 11th, 2015 at 11:26 AM ^
Adam, despite that your parents probably fawned all over everything you ever did, this is the real world and there are consequences for stupid ass ideas. Here's your first lesson.
February 11th, 2015 at 11:26 AM ^
Even the guys who came up with New Coke think this is a terrible idea.

Brian's work is already done:
LinknedIn -- https://www.linkedin.com/in/adamhweiss
He apparently has his own business that is -- shockingly! -- related to this "unique" opportunity:http://www.adamhweiss.com
I can't wait for what the board has to say about some of the mateiral on his site... Don't click if you don't want to give him traffic, but some of it rises to "are you freaking kidding me?"
February 11th, 2015 at 12:02 PM ^
Sooo we are supposed to go harrass/make fun of him because he... has an eye for photography?? As an amateur photographer, my opinion is that his subject matter isn't my taste but he is good at it. A little too much post process imo...but still.
Yeh.... screw that kid for running a business while in college...
You don't like his idea, argue that. The idea. Don't attack the kid, geez.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:11 PM ^
just as much as the next guy. Maybe not as much as you, but I respect a good photographer. Maybe his choice of subjects wouldn't be mine, but whatever. If you look at what's under "motion," I imagine you'll see just what his vision for this "unique" opportunity is. My objection isn't to him -- I'm sure he's fine person -- or his business interests; rather his attempt to use the University to simply advance himself and nothing more.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
There is no proof he is using the University only to advance himself. You could just as easily argue that he believes himself to be someone who has a talent for photography and "motion", and he is seeking to use that talent for the university he loves. Neither are probably accurate, truth is probably something in the middle.
But to post his personal info, make baseless assumptions (attacks) about his intentions... I disagree with that. And fwiw, I do think its a bad idea. I have agreed with many on here about how bad of an idea it is. But that's where the line is for me. You disagree, that's cool. I am not going to search out your personal info and post it here for all to see simply because your opinions are different than mine.
fwiw, all my pics from 2000-2004 were my friends as well. Can't fault the kid for putting extra effort into his, and trying to make a business out of it.
I am curious, what exactly did you take pictures of while in college?
February 11th, 2015 at 1:08 PM ^
then I hope you aren't reading what some others here are saying.
His own actions show that he's trying to advance himself. Who in their right mind thinks that creating an alternative (or substitute or addition or whatever) to what John Philip Sousa called "the greatest college fight song ever written" is out to unite a fan base rather than advance his own interests or career?
And, hey, I'm all for him advancing himself with his business interests, just don't do it at the expense of the University.
I appreciate you not looking for my personal information, but this guy did it to himself. He put himself out there and created a public LinkedIn page for all to consume. Shoot, I probably did the guy a favor by posting it here.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
Just went to motion links. I am not jealous of Adam Weiss. But the world he lives in, the privilege he comes from, is very obvious. Not my tastes, not my style, but to each his own. Having said that, it is clear he is mind-bogglingly clueless about the world he comes from, and the real world. He is about to get an education.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:40 PM ^
As a business school grad, i can say this guy is trying way too hard. The LinkedIn self promoting is over the top, especially for a sophomore.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:56 PM ^
to which this appeals, but it is way smaller than he thinks it is.
