They also used to show the bands at halftime.
Then the almighty dollar took over and they pushed all that stuff aside and filled every available second with commercials and made the games 4 hours.

Bo was a visionary. In this clip he has just been asked: "Who would you hire in December 2014 as Michigan's head football coach?" Here's his answer:

Thanks for the reply, and I'm assuming with your username we all owe you a big thanks for putting those videos together. I watched more than a couple of your videos on Friday and really enjoyed it.

The full video fo the '78 ND intro is something. Not just for the Huckleby wink, but for the humongous wad of chaw Leach has unabashedly stashed in his cheek.
Yeesh.

In the intro video #68 (Jon Giesler) is labeled the "Strong Tackle" and #67 (John Powers) a "Quick Tackle." Anyone know how those designations relate to today's language?
I was thinking Quick = Weakside, but in an offense where they line up with two tight ends which side is "strong" and which is "weak?"
Harlan Huckleby is the greatest MIchigan player name of all time.

Those jackets are awesome. And the linemen don't look too much bigger than the skill guys.

Did anyone else catch the weights of the O Lineman? All in the 250 lb range. Crazy

When Ed Muransky and Bubba Paris came along, they were considered "huge" being in the 270's.

It was. It was in the early '90s and it was a phenomenon at that time that a college line averaged 300 lbs.

That was strange and then I saw that Ralph Clayton was listed at 6'3 222 and Harlan Huckleby was 6'1 199. Most of the offensive and defensive backs, linebackers, receivers, and even some TEs on the late 70s rosters look similar in size to many D1 rosters today. It seems while the lines got 20-30% bigger over the past 40 years some of the other positions haven't grown by the same amount.

If they are bringing back the Helmet Stickers....bring back Neck Rolls and winks too.

And the hair . . . the afros, the porn-staches, the mutton chop sideburns. These dudes all look like they could go mix it up somwhere in the back alley of a drug deal gone bad.

I am with you OP. They are better than the play by play guy listing everybody on a graphic. I think they are nice because most fans would have no idea what most of the players look like since the cameras tend to focus on skill positions and coaches on the sideline.

Thanks for posting, that was hilarious. All those mustaches and winks look a bit creepy now-a-days.

Today I feel just a little bit older after watching it. It brings back a few memories.

looked older. We all had longer hair and grew beards and mustaches just to look older. Now my generation is trying to do everything to look younger!

What a great primer for those who may not know what tough, hard nosed Winners in maize and blue look like.

Thanks for this blast from the past. Players definitely looked different :) Agreed back then it was all about looking older. I do miss hearing the band the way we used to, and Carl Grapentine reading off the lineup, one by one.
Also the team taking the field in the second half should never be an afterthought, it should be the event. It's part of what home field advantage is all about.
