The second thread on this was the one that ended up being removed, but then only because it was duplicate content. One of the most puzzling things about the coachign search in particular has been the rush to break news actually - like I tell people, if it has been out there for a good 10-15 minutes and it pertains to Michigan, someone has probably posted it.

All the other legit candidates will still have bowl games to play....

The timing would be pretty bad for head coach.. a day or two before the game?
December 23rd, 2014 at 9:43 PM ^
At that point it means we couldn't land Stoops(Dec. 28th) or Mullen(Dec. 31st) and we are waiting for Jim Moora(January 3rd) to make a decision. It would really suck if Harbaugh says no.

This is definitely thread worthy

According to Brian UM is trying to get a press conference together for next Tuesday so Desmond is pretty on target there.

This pretty much confirms the dates we've heard from Brian and the Rivals and Scout insiders. But, it is good confirmation as it comes from another source, someone who is undoubtably pretty connected.

I don't see the Raiders firing Reggie McKenzie. He had a very good draft last year and most Raider fans think he'll get another year.

doesn't give a shit about what the fans think. If he wants Harbaugh and knows Harbaugh wants control like a GM would for personnel, he'll fire Reggie in a heartbeat.

The 49ers and JH could agree to a trade but that will not happen. I doubt the 49ers fire Harbaugh. If Jim quits he will have to pay the penalty, and no other team can contact him for 6 months per NFL tampering laws. Harbaugh is kind of trapped to head for Michigan or try to work out a trade deal with SF to another NFL team.
December 24th, 2014 at 12:41 AM ^
In the case of a trade can't he demand an extension and raise prior to approving?
Doesn't JH hold all of the cards after Sunday's game?
But given the multitude of confidence building signals from those close to the program, it seems like there is a great chance of him coming in a week.
December 24th, 2014 at 9:11 AM ^
Oakland can't offer a "thing?" They could easily offer a 2nd round pick or any draft pick. If Jim wants to stay in the NFL...I doubt whether the 49ers just fire him. If he is leaving and doesn't want to go to college but would prefer to stay in the NFL, Oakland is where he'll go.

answer (Yes/No) without considering further offers. He is not just another dude making a change - if he said yes and then changes his mind, I believe he does not plan to set foot in Ann Arbor again.
My take is that Hackett either has JH locked, or in case JH already said no, has other plan B guy locked (Miles, Stoops, Schiano, Ron English).
December 23rd, 2014 at 11:06 PM ^
I'm not sure how Hackett would have a plan B candidate locked up. Coaches at big-time programs have big-time egos, and I can't imagine a Bob Stoops or a Jim Mora being okay with Hackett telling them, "You can have the job if you want it, but only if Jim Harbaugh says no." The only candidates who might be okay with that are those who are just happy to be in the conversation (Schiano et al).

Robert Smith thinks it won't happen, so it's definitely happening.

Just listened to Robert Smith and he says Harbaugh is staying in the NFL. But then again he is a ESPN talking head and from Ohio State.
