How long would you give JH to decide?
Right now the great coaching shuffle is beginning- people are getting offers, counteroffers are coming back, then replies, talking to trustees, etc. this is an intense but fast paced process.
And this is just the first round- once coaches are picked then there is another grab for the best assistants, offers, counters, etc. Assistants can make or break a program in some cases.
Most teams are moving on their prime coaching candidates, then option B, C and do on. Options close and new options are considered
At some point a team can lose just by coming late to the dance and finding no more suitable dates
So, if you were on the committee, how long would you give JH to make a decision? we could wait weeks and he could say "no" and the program could be stuck with another 4 years of substandard coaching and some plan "G" coach.
How much do you gamble and when do you fold your hand?

Whaaat? you mean you don't enjoy the 300+ JH threads a day

What's the evidence that we ARE going to end up with PLAN G if JH says NO? Not seeing this.

If I knew he would say yes, I would give him all the time he needs. If I do not have that luxury I would give him the month of December.

What day does training camp start?

As long as it takes for him to say Yes. Saban said no to Bama many many times. Bama refused no.
If it requires taking Jim hostage that's what it takes!

Swear to god I didn't see this before I posted mine. Well done!

I don't think we can say...
for me it depends on the tenure of the conversation; if he is honestly fifty-fifty i would give him as long as he needs... If he is being coy I would give him three days from today, that is ten days after we began the search and reasonable i think.
Personally, I don't feel the rush just yet and am content to see what may come.

If he is hell bent on staying in the NFL I'm sure he would have had a private conversation with Hacket by now.

Sorry if you're being sarcastic, but there are plenty of people on this board who seriously blame Gardner for all of Hoke's failings and then some.

I swear you'd think Richrod went 10-2 every year and we were just too gosh darn unhappy with that so we let him go.
Can't wait for when people talk fondly about Hoke's tenure next fall

Sounds about right.

I think he should decide right now, or we should move on. Screw his schedule.

I would give him until he says yes or no. This is such an important hire. Behind the scenes, if he is truly not interested, we should know sooner than later.

are coaching in bowls. None of them will get too serious until they complete their games. We can evaluate levels of interest and have the search firm vet them during the quiet period for recruiting. No later than the first week of January, Michigan annouces our choice.

Because the entire 49ers culture is extremely toxic right now and they're working with a depleted roster.
December 7th, 2014 at 7:31 PM ^
Because of Johns long history of recruiting and running a college programs? Not saying he's not a great option, just not sure why he'd be considered a better pick than John, stoops, etc...

Unless, unless Harbaugh has been too distracted by the possibility of being the Michigan head coach to concentrate in the task at hand.
OMG it's happening.

At some point, you do have to move on. You can't let Harbaugh hold the program hostage indefinitely while other good candidates become unavailable.
