Rod Gilmore and the Gardner quote
Last night Rod Gilmore said Hoke had actually once considered asking Gardner to leave the program. Gilmore said so many irritating, semi-insulting things about the UM program last night, but this one really floored me. Anyone else hear him say this or know what he might have been talking about?

Wihle part of me is pissed at Gilmore, the other part is much more pissed at David Brandon for turning the program into a national joke.

This is Michigan... Where your Coach doesn't want you to limp in a game versus OSU but does expect you to be so thin-skinned as to be rattled by your own fans...
This is Michigan.. Where fans' anger was manipulated by media and Brandon to be actually directed at players... Who have "feelings"
This is Michigan... Where ex-players have to pump up current players because of feelings... Not a pump up to play MSU or OSU.. but simply to get through feelings....
This is Michigan... Where our players must have 100k+ fans in the stands at kick-off... because... feelings...
This is Michigan.. we have feelings ... and boo-boos....

Yeah, that ocean of empty seats in the student section was devastating.

Brandon's departure has been Bandoed.
October 12th, 2014 at 9:48 PM ^
What if Bando is actually THE KNOWLEDGE
We, as posters, do not KNOW the future
.
BANDO CALRISSIAN, on the other hand, not only knows the future but also about the future of one David Brandon and the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Brady Hoke
.
yes

Carr almost kicked Braylon off the team -_-
October 12th, 2014 at 11:51 PM ^
Devin Gardner is a model citizen, student, and a damn fine football player. Dude graduated in 3 and a half years, is now in graduate school, and is overall a good dude. Gives back, doesn't complain when he gets benched, didn't complain when he switched positions, didn't complain when he switched back.
Very comparable situations.
October 13th, 2014 at 5:01 AM ^
Right because Braylon killed a dude. What's the worst he had done at that point? Complained about a lack of playing time?
I wasn't bashing Gardner. Just that even as someone who wants Hoke and Brandon gone, it's getting tiring hearing personal attacks and hyperbole like the comment I was responding to. As if Hoke would kick Gardner off the team for no reason. Anyway, just because Gardner's a good guy doesn't mean he might not have butted heads with Hoke when he was hired. Maybe Gilmore was wrong, but later in this thread, uncleFred said (no idea what's up with the formatting):
October 13th, 2014 at 11:43 AM ^
...except for the complaining about getting benched. He did complain. And he moped on the sidelines all Minnesota game. There was no leadership like he displayed vs. PSU. He didn't even speak to anyone. It was reported during the game and then confirmed by Gilmore during the PSU game. He and Hoke talked about it afterwards and he was "mad."
Understandable, but one of those things you mentioned wasn't true. Unless you mean complain (publically).

DG would be expected to lead because of his standing with the team. Being benched does not take away his influence with players he has bled and worked so hard with! Add to that DG should have the mind set that The Team/University of Michigan football is greater than his feelings! As a senior leader he has to have a mind set that any given play he could be asked to go back in! In this case to answer your question "how much leadership do we need from the backup QB?" lots and lots of it! Because lots of his teammates eys were on him.
Go Blue!
October 13th, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
We no longer look to the seniors for leadership. Last year's problems were caused by seniors left behind by RR. That's part of the reason we won't have captains until after the season this year. That way you can be sure to pick the right guys. Besides, there are so many guys in younger classes who can contribute to leadership that it would be wrong to limit them by looking to the seniors.
October 13th, 2014 at 7:27 PM ^
Hoke had those players for three years but it is RR's fault. Apparently Hoke must be a terrible builder of men because in three years he couldn't do anything those that RR had for a year or two at most. Funny how Molk, Martin and RVB who spent most of their careers with RR but were recruited by Carr weren't problems, but Gibbons and Lewan who spent most of their careers with Hoke are RR's problems. Just STFU!

He had decommitted after LC retired.
Also, you're exceptionally bad at analogies.
Also, do you really need the "/s" in order to recognize sarcasm?

"Braylon needs to find the page I'm on and get there." (Or something to that effect)
Whether the Gardner rumor is true or not, it's clearly a good thing he stayed.
October 13th, 2014 at 2:19 PM ^
I'm guessing you're referring to the story about LC throwing transfer papers at Braylon. That's a motivational tactic. It isn't the same as almost kicking him off the team.

Joey Galloway tops him by far

October 12th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
Two weeks ago on College Football Live, Galloway said Michigan's facilities were lacking and old, that's why we don't get top tier recruits. Give me Gilmore any day of Galloway lol
October 13th, 2014 at 11:46 AM ^
Galloway literally has NO idea what he's talking about. He's the WORST.
Gilmore is just a troll. He thinks he knows what he's talking about and loves to play devil's advocate. But he's most annoying because he swears up and down he's right, even when he's not.
Both should be fired.
Marcus Ray did ONE game for BTN that I heard this season and he was lightyears better than both.
It's one thing to not be good, but they're in a position where they influence thought and understanding...you can't have Galloway and Gilmore just on TV lying. It's completely inappropriate.

Random conversations that he attributed to noboday to simply cast a poor light. It infuriated my mother so much that she actually wrote ESPN, which surprised the hell out of me.

I thought he said Hoke considered asking Gardner to leave.
My first thought was Hoke saying to himself: "Well... you know... we don't have any other quarterbacks competing in practice (thought bubble: because I didn't recruit any before Shane.)"

The conversation probably went something like this:
"Well ummm Devin ya know you umm are a good kid and ummm thank you umm for well you know working hard here and stuff. But err umm we have this well you know kid name Russell coming in at QB who we really ummmm think is going to be ya know the future. Love you son #12"
The sad thing is that could have actually happened.

Gardner considered leaving on his own accord and decided to stick it out. This was years ago. Hoke didn't "ask him to leave." We all knew this already, this slapdick just decided to get the story wrong for entertainment value.
Also, his commentary about Gardner playing injuried was weak. Guys play injured! He wanted to play injured! I think we took him out initially as a direct reaction to the Morris fiasco, because Gardner clearly looked frustrated on the bench (mostly about the fact he GOT injured, I presume).
