Hate to be so pessimistic, but I would put Dan Mullen only a half step above the Harbaughs in terms of likelihood (assuming that Florida fires Muschamp). I don't seem him choosing a program to which he has no ties in a region in which he probably doesn't have many recruiting connections over one where he was an assistant coach for four years.
The unfortunate reality is that qualified, realistic candidates for a high-profile job like Michigan are few and far in between this year. There's no big name out there like Kevin Sumlin in 2011, Charlie Strong last year, or Urban Meyer in 2004. So basically, we're screwed.

Mullen is from Pennsylvania and played at a small school in Penn as well. Also GAed at ND, and coached with Meyer at Bowling Green. So he's not foreign to the region or anything. Not like Briles who has never left the state of Texas.

I think Mullen would take the job. Miss St is never going to be as relevant as Michigan. They aren't even the most relevant program in their own state.
Michigan has two wins so far and Miss St is undefeated. Michigan is still in the national news more. As soon as it becomes obvious that David Brandon is gone, this will become a desirable job again. Outsiders will still be leery of getting sabotaged by so-called "Michigan Men," but a real AD will be able to assure them that it won't happen this time.

The likely alternative to Michigan for Mullen is Florida, not Miss. St.
October 6th, 2014 at 9:17 PM ^
What if Mullen takes the Michigan job and then the Florida job opens next year. Anyone fear a Lane Kiffen(UT to USC) scenario?

Not so sure about your taste in music...

You guys saw my tweet in time to talk about the idiocy of only having 10 men on the field for the punt.

The only thing I don't like about these podcasts is how Brian constantly has to correct any opinion Ace has.

If you're in need of more depressing music for the podcast, might I reccomend the new Gaslight Anthem:
"Get Hurt"
Sometimes I dream some more
I keep my wounds without a bandage, baby
As I come stumblin' through the door
Spend my nights in dislocation
Talkin' to spirits on the floor
I think I came to find a feelin', baby
Between what was mine and what was yours
And I came to get hurt
(Get hurt)
Might as well do your worst to me
(Get hurt)
Have you come here to get hurt?
(Get hurt)
Have you come to take away from me?
From me, from me
Might as well do your worst to me
I think I'm gonna move to California
Momma can you say a prayer for me?
(Say a prayer for me)
I heard they don't get so lowdown
I heard they never bleed
Not like we bleed
And I came to get hurt
(Get hurt)
Might as well do your worst to me
(Get hurt)
Have you come here to get hurt?
(Get hurt)
Have you come to take away from me?
From me, from me
Might as well do your worst to me
And it gets pretty late
And the stations will change
And the things once in order
Now seem so strange
Once I could tell all the hurt apart from myself
Now all I can see is the need, the need that
I came to get hurt
(Get hurt)
Might as well do your worst to me
(Get hurt)
Have you come here to get hurt?
(Get hurt)
Have you come to take away from me?
From me, from me
Might as well do your worst to me
And maybe you needed a change
And maybe I was in the way
Maybe some things they stay
And some things go away
And maybe I was mine
And maybe you were not the same

As does the music selection.
"Walking far from Home" on the TV dial after the Rutgers loss, I caught other teams actually playing football that day - the Ole Miss' INT to close out a fantastic effort against Bama and then ASU's hail mary to beat USC capping of a strong game. Exact opposite of the crap Hoke & minions claim to be games they "prepared well" for.
Not used to this experience.

For reference, how many hobos are the Harbaughs/pipe dreams and Mullen?
I feel like Jim is probably also infinite. Mullen like a million, and John 1000 or so (lack of previous coaching experience in college working against him)

That photo is interesting. It looks like Brady has woken up in the land of the cyborgs.

Don't want to start a thread or anything, so I'm putting this here. Is it just me, or is MSU highly susceptible in pass defense? Watching that game, I felt that Nebraska had guys running open all over the place and were just held back by the fact that Armstrong can't pass, plus a couple drops. And this was without Kenny Bell for 3/4 of the game. Sure, Armstrong's completion percentage was terrible, but that includes about 4 easy misses on swing passes and a deep ball that was dropped by Westerkamp. I think Indiana, Ohio State and Maryland could torch them through the air. I wish I could say the same about us. I don't think they're going to lose two or three more games this season, but I do think they'll lose again this season.

What's "revisionist" about this post or comments that specifically change the facts of the '11 season? Who has revised that history? Please tell b/c I've read it from the top again and I'm not seeing it.

Most Michigan fans were on board with Hoke after winning a BCS bowl (who wouldn't be?)
A lot of the national media (I specifically remember a Stewart Mandel column ranking college coaches and Brady Hoke was just out of the national elite like Saban or Meyer) were similar in expressing that Hoke was perfect for Michigan and championships were sure to follow.
I think the gist against the revisionist argument would be that instances of failure like the State or Iowa game in 2011 became more glaring after subsequent seasons and repeated mistakes and worse strategic gaffes piled up.
Winning makes errors look immaterial while losing in buckets made every faux pas look like gross negligence

Tom Herman. In terms of realistic candidates, he should be a top 5 candidate and the highest ranked coordinator with no HC experience candidate. He has a track record of building offenses where ever he goes. He has exposure to a large role for a large program. According to his page on the Ohio State website he was name 2013 Big Ten Recruiter of the Year by Rvials.Com.
Narduzzi comes across as a Bud Foster type that seems to be happy with his situation,. If he really wanted to be a HC he could be one by now. Yeah, UConn isn't a sexy job, but it is HC experience for a bigger job down the road.

the RR era at Michigan never happened and he went to the studio for a few years after WV and then to Arizona. Is Rich Rod infinite hobos strangled??
October 7th, 2014 at 12:51 AM ^
I would mouth to mouth revive a hobo to not have Darrell Hazell coach our football team, so I assume that equals negative hobos strangled
