Ty Isaac Visiting Michigan Next Week
Things have been quiet with Ty over the last week or so, but now he's beginning to take visits. Getting him on campus is a big step in the right direction. Haven't heard him visiting any other schools besides Michigan and Illinois at this point.
RB Ty Isaac's mother tells me Ty is visiting Illinois and also plans to visit Michigan next week.

wish I could unsee it.
If I wasn't still in La Paz from a minor religion offense from 4 months ago I'd upvote this excellent retort.
Now THAT is a disturbing hot dog oriented clip.
Too soon...
Sam Webb this morning: Isaac has a friend (maybe girlfriend) at Illinois, and is very good friends with the Northwestern DB commit (forget his name), both of which are lures to those schools. Also, the hardship radius will be a hurdle for Michigan, given he'd have to appeal in order to play immediately given the distance between his home and Ann Arbor. I think NW and Illinois are within the radius so he automatically would be able to play immediately.
He hinted at a visit next week but didn't confirm.
Northwestern is the only school out of that group that's within 100 miles. If he wants to play in 2014, the choice has to be Northwestern.
If he doesn't mind waiting, I've actually heard that Michigan is the front-runner.
There was this from the Northwestern Scout publisher:
From what I've seen and heard, USC transfer Ty Isaac has no interest in #Northwestern.

Joilet is 114 miles away from Illinois, just missing that cutoff. Since another poster said that he has no interest in Northwestern, it seems like he will wait a year unless he goes to ND.
It's obvious that Isaac didn't really request the transfer for family reasons if he wants to go to a place fourteen miles outside the one hundred mile radius.
Illinois is within 100 miles as the crow flies. What's the rule say, is that driving distance or map distance?
It depends on whether the NCAA is in the mood to do the right, rational, and common sense thing, or, if they are in the mood to F up someone's future with technicalities that may or may not be adhered to the next time the same exact situation comes up....
saving him from playing at Illinois.
An African or a European crow?
An African crow maybe but not a European crow that's my point.
An African crow could grip Ty Isaac by the pants!
So they wouldn't be able to bring a Ty Isaac back anyway.
Hey man, I live in DC, you never know how ridiculously technical and beaurocratic an organization can get.
You also have to consider the elevation at which the crow flies. Crows that fly higher may experience less wind resistance and thus arrive quicker, but the total distance traveled will be larger due to the increase in vertical distance.
with regards to altitude for birds. Birds breathe oxygen, which is needed for proper muscle operation, and is thinner at higher altitudes. So although there's less resistance, there's a decrease in performance over the distance traveled.
We'll have to run some tests...
NCAA bylaw 12(c)(iii)(A.154): The transferred student athlete may play immediately at a school beyond the 100 mile radius as long as the school does not provide the student athlete cream cheese for his bagels for one year post-transfer.
spent some time recently in Champaign and it is a nice place, don't get me wrong, but its a postage stamp of civilization in the middle of a bunch of farmland. I'm sure I'm wearing some maize colored glasses here, but I just can't see how that place can compete with Ann Arbor. And the stadium is nice, but not even close to as impressive as the Big House. If he picks U of I, he must really have wanted it...and if that's the case, more power to him and good luck.
Agree - visited Champaign last fall and I don't understand the appeal to any recruit, let alone a kid going to study Electrical Engineering. It's just a very boring place, albeit I visted for about 2 days.
Illinois is consistently top 5 in EE, so if he wants a good education, that might explain it.
I visited for 2 minutes. Got off the highway, drove towards campus and said ' this place sucks.' Turned around in a gas station, left.
Illinois is an excellent engineering school
I graduated from Illinois, and yes, it is not the greatest city to live in or look at. Ann Arbor blows it out of the water. I wish I could of afforded UM.
/s
I went to school in Sheboygan Wisconsin....the whole place smelled like cow dung when it got hot outside.
Sounds like Grand Valley
Yeah... That place sucks

The Northwestern DB commit is Parrker Westphal. Parrker and Ty are cousins. By chance, I met Parrker's dad, Sam. We had a nice chat about recruiting long before Parrker commited to NW. Sam was not very impressed with they way Ty handled his recruitment. You'll notice Parrker handled his much differently. I provided Brian/Ace with Sam's contact info. Perhaps they should reach out and see if they can get some insight.
ty will be a michigan commit soon
With the coaching change, is he eligible to play this year? Sorry if this has been discussed already.
He is looking to get a hardship waiver (since he transferred for family reasons). If he gets it, he can play this season but only for schools within a 100 mile radius of his home. Northwestern is the only school that fits. Otherwise, he'll need to sit out a year.
would pan out if he were able to play immediately. We already have 2 highly ranked guys in the same class and this would make 3. Depth, it is a nice problem to have, no?
I don't think he'd be able to play immediately (as mentioned above, only NW is within the 100 mile hardship radius from his home). That being said, if somehow could it'd make a very interesting RB competition.
If he has to sit a year, does he get to count that as some sort of redshirt year, or does that take away a year of his eligibility?
...he would lose the chance to take another redshirt.
michigan is 108. so we will win this from the ncaa
Adding talent is always a good thing and I’ll be happy and excited if he does choose UM, but for some reason, I'm not really concerned if UM adds Isaac or not.
I think Green, Smith and others are more than capable of providing what Michigan needs. I don’t necessarily believe having another RB will automatically equal success for the future or is what the team needs to be successful.
At this point, I guess what I’m saying, is that I’d be more excited if some 4-5* defensive or offensive lineman had interest in transferring here.
"I don’t necessarily believe having another RB will automatically equal success for the future or is what the team needs to be successful."
If this is your only criterion, then I'm guessing no transfer would fit your bill. No 5-star lineman would automatially lead to team success. All the parts add up to a whole.
