Stauskas, Robinson To Enter Draft
[Bryan Fuller]
Michigan just scooped their own press conference with a press release. Snippet:
Robinson III, Stauskas Declare for Early Entry into NBA Draft
April 15, 2014
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball head coach John Beilein announced today (Tuesday, April 15) that sophomores Glenn Robinson III (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) and Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Mark's School [Mass.]) will forgo their final two years of eligibility and submit the necessary paperwork to declare for early entry into the 2014 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft.
"In a very short period of time, these two young men have had a very positive impact on the Michigan Basketball program," said Beilein. "From day one, Glenn and Nik have had the right attitude and work ethic that has helped us enjoy so much of our recent success."
That's the way this was going, and now it has gone. Raise your hand if you thought Michigan would have four early NBA draft entries in two years under John Beilein, let alone four in two years. That's nobody. Weird place we're in now. Great place. Weird place.
Anyway, godspeed, gentlemen. May your NBA careers be long and fruitful and draw other players of your ilk to Ann Arbor.
Our entire athletic dept is one big gaggle of monkeys just pushing buttons. Amazing, really.
To be fair though they WERE announcing they are leaving school so maybe the Athletic Department no longer considereds them one of their own.

they were both big parts of two fun, fun seasons. they get to walk out with their heads held high and no regrets.
I figured Nik was gone for sure, and was 50/50 on GRIII after this year. Thanks for the 3's and the dunks. Sure was fun to watch over the last 2 years - and we have the banners to prove it. Hope they have great careers.
We're going to miss you both. I will now re-commence praying for Mitch to come back next year.
That's where I am as well.
Stauskas had virtually nothing left to prove or accomplish. GRIII less so, but I don't begrudge either of them their decision or think they're making a mistake.
I do, however, think Mitch only had a flash at the end of last season and hints at the beginning of this year of his personal Beilein-Assisted Breakout (tm) and he really would benefit from showing a full season to NBA talent evaluators.
Thank you GR III and Stauskas for everything you have contributed to Michigan basketball these past two seasons, they've been fun.
Good luck!
This sentence makes no sense to me:
"Raise your hand if you thought Michigan would have four early NBA draft entries in two years under John Beilein, let alone four in two years."
I was wondering about that too...
I took that as "...would have four early entrants in two years, let alone four players drafted in two years."
Brian wrote that "Michigan abdicated on being a basketball power when they hired Beilein," mostly because his system relies on 3-point shooting, the 1-3-1 zone, and doesn't attract big-name talent. Here's original post: http://mgoblog.com/content/beilein-ceiling-five-times-fast
And here's my hindsight-aided response to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks4bD2RL3dM
I have to think that those were the rational feelings of most fans back then. John Beilein has simply blown away all reasonable expectations for the program. Of course, I believe that mailbag was before the total overhaul of the coaching staff, which probably changed the trajectory of the program quite significantly.
That being said: Brian is a NOOB.

I love what Beilein has done the past three years, but the expectations that you speak of were too low and an overreaction to the miserable Amaker and Ellerbe years. The Decade of Darkness should not be used as a baseline for what we should expect out of Michigan basketball.
But only four, right? RIGHT?!?!
redundant.
But I will raise my hand anyways.
"Raise your hand if you thought Michigan would have two early NBA draft entries in two years under John Beilein, let alone four in two years."
Thanks for the memories! Best wishes in the NBA, will look forward to following their progress.
Dang, we will not be preseason national title favorites now.
Sad - but good luck!
I had my very first double-post!
Godspeed, gentlemen. I will miss your lights-out three-point shooting and soaring dunks.
there's a chance they get drafted by the same team.
Yes, and that chance is slim.
It's about 1/30.
would be a good fit for GRIII tbh. Fast paced team with Dragic and Bledsoe at G with GRIII flying down the court.
Hate to see them go but look forward to watching them at the next level. Caris, Zak and Derrick...it's your turn.
Oh, goody.
Yet another upcoming year where everyone gets to remark about how well John Beilein is doing with a depleted roster.
The was a "Far Side" cartoon that showed two lions surveying a heard of zebras. The one lion says to the other "Enough of this weeding out the old and the sick stuff, I want something in its prime."
Enough of watching John Beilein perform miracles with young, skinny, inexperienced players. I want to see him kick asses with some elite players in their prime.
You think Kansas fans aren't wanting for Embiid to stay? Or Zona fans for Aaron Gordon? Even Robin left to start up that "Nightwing " crap after I spent years training him.
Slight difference is Zona and Kansas reload every year with top 5 classes. What's ours ranked this year?
You're doing a pretty good job of keeping in character Batman but the best...the absolute BEST was the brief, but brilliant posting career of Terrelle Pryor. That guy was absolutely spot on and funny as Hell.
Never thought I'd say these words but I miss internet Terrelle Pryor.
I think the best part about him as a poster was that he didn't overstay his welcome. He managed to know when the schtick was played out before it became painfully obvious. Simply top notch work.
Hardaway seems to have shown improvement since leaving, and nobody knows what Stauskas will become.
are called NBA players.
It's indeed a bummer that we don't get to see one year of "I AM BECOME DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS", which we would have been next year had we kept McGary and then two out of the three guys who have declared. With that said, if McGary stays, you are still going to see a darn good team. The starting lineup will still be arguably the best in the Big Ten. We just won't have experienced depth except at point guard.
.... you are up.
How many years back to you need to go with Michigan football to get 4 (or 5) players who declared early?
Wish them nothing but the best. Enjoyed the hell out of watching them play. Thanks for everything, boys. Time to reload!
Best of luck, guys!!
That is all.
BTN mentioned that Michgian has had 6 players leave early under Beilein. Conversely MLive had an article the Harris was MSU's fifth under Izzo. I think that says a lot for Beilein. He has done a lot more with supposedly less talent.
