How do we feel about Hunter Dickinson these days?

Iirc, the Michigan common truth about Dickinson was that he was a program cancer, etc.

But the general affect about Michigan (NIL, Juwan, etc.) these days is in a very different place. Also, dude is BALLING at Kansas. And the team is doing VERY well…

So I’m curious to know where the hive mind stands on Dickinson these days.

I don’t feel anything about him. The only time I think about him—or Kansas basketball—is when somebody mentions him on MGoBlog.

I agree with what was said above- He's still an a-hole. When he was our a-hole you put up with it. Now that he isn't, I don't care about him. I pull against Kansas because I don't like Kansas. The fact that he is on the team doesn't impact that.

I was in the camp that losing HD was addition by subtraction.   I was clearly wrong about that.   I have watched enough Kansas games to see that HD is thriving on a team where he isn't the complete focus of the offense.   At Michigan the game plan seemed to be just to throw it into the post and let HD play one on one or get doubled or tripled.   At Kansas he seems to be playing more in the flow of the game and their offense seems much more balanced.   I also don't see the dick grabbing and other crap so many of us were annoyed by.

Every team is going to lose a marginal player seeking more playing time elsewhere.  Unusual for a major college team to lose an all conference player to another major team.   Hopefully there has been some internal reflection on that by Michigan athletics so that it doesn't happen again.   But probably not.

I've lost interest in college basketball in general this season because Michigan is terrible.  So I haven't followed Dickinson since Michigan fell off the map early in the season.  I hope he goes on to win a title with Kansas though.

That in a nutshell sums up my fandom.  I don't care enough about basketball to watch a bad Michigan team.  But I would reserve time to watch football every Saturday when RR and Hoke were coaching bad teams.

Shockingly, he was not the problem and losing him was a negative. It was insane to me that people thought losing him and 2 NBA draft picks would somehow make us better for "culture" reasons.

I do not remember this being said a lot, let alone a “common truth” as the OP says.

Yes, people complained about some of his antics and I think everyone realized he was an easy villain for opponents, but he was our villain. But “program cancer” was not something I remember ever seriously being thrown around. This feels like revisionist history.
