Top 11 players of offense
Donovan Edwards mentioned in his presser that the top 11 will be on the field, and that he wants to have both he and Blake on the field at the same time.
With that being said, it got me thinking, who are the top 11 players on offense? Mine-
1. Corum
2. Zinter
3. Edwards
4.Keegan
5. JJ
6. Wilson
7. Henderson
8. Loveland
9. Nugent
10. C. Johnson
11. Barnhart
What's yours?

We’re going to spit hot fire this year

My favorite mgocomment in months.

Corum has shown some good receiving skills too. Corum and D Edwards should both be pretty good to block for each other. Hopefully Loveland is better at blocking. Having JJ, Corum, Edwards, Wilson, C Johnson, Loveland as skill players should be pretty sweet

I kinda feel like Darius Clemons is going to have a breakout season and be our best WR this year (after Edwards).

Roman Wilson. He will also be great.
August 12th, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
He’s certainly the fastest. He’ll get plenty of opportunities this year, for sure.

Interesting that in an interview with Sam Webb https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx7nJvUMWAfRzEwTnchCgtqlafiYgM416g Darius identified Eamonn Dennis as the fastest on the team by far, with a group of players, including Wilson, in that group. I have not heard much about Dennis and believe he is a slot receiver behind Wilson. I wonder how he is doing in Fall Practice.
August 13th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
He’s a slot, but he’s buried pretty deep on the depth chart and has been limited to special teams. Tyler Morris is the odds on favorite to start in the slot with Wilson and CJ on the outside from what little has leaked out of camp and spring practice.

Michigan should always play with two RBs on the field that play.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
They sure can with Edwards route and receiving skills. Assuming you mean personal and not alignment, having two backs in the backfield

Can we please just unleash the offense this year? Leave no doubt among future skill recruits that skill plays here. This is the year to show it.

It’s my birthday today, can this be my present?
August 12th, 2023 at 6:21 PM ^
They will unleash the offense when they have to.
I totally get the sentiment, but it’s unlikely that they’ll change an approach that’s been working for them.
August 13th, 2023 at 9:20 AM ^
I’m no master of rocket appliances, but I’d be willing to wager unleashing the full potential of the offense and featuring the skill players would also be an approach that works quite well for them.

I don't know about top 11, but I've been saying all summer that I think we are going to see A LOT of...
Johnson|Edwards|Corum|Loveland|Wilson
I can't wait to see what the cook up with those 5 on the field with McCarthy and the OL.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:20 PM ^
Another thing I'm interested in...if we have to go to 2 CBs, in a goal line type of a package.
Does Sainristil stay on with W. Johnson, R. Moore, and M. Paige?
Also, will we ever play all 3 "starting" ILBs together in more of a traditional 4-3?
August 12th, 2023 at 2:34 PM ^
Maybe a 3-3-5 to get a stunt out of the nose with Jenkins and blitz Barrett.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
I suppose that's possible, you'd be playing without an EDGE, but as you mentioned, you can rush Barrett and Moore would have some EDGE responsibilities.
Benny-Graham-Jenkins (or Jenkins-Grant-Graham)
Hausmann-Colson-Barrett
Wallace-Sainristil-Moore-Johnson
Paige

The good part about the roster construction is that we have a multitude of players with the versatility to play multiple positions. Guys like Harrell and Josaiah Stewart can play EDGE or LB. We have guys who can play end or tackle. The same personnel on the field can play anything from a 3-4 to a 5-2, the only question is how many true DBs we have on the field at the same time.

Two words: wish bone
August 12th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Every year people say this is the year we’re going to unleash the offense and it never happens.
I think our lousy non-conference schedules play a role in this, as since we have such an overwhelming advantage in those games, we can just turtle for at least the first 3rd of the year and it doesn’t cost us.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:39 PM ^
What does “unleashing the offense” mean though? Michigan’s offensive strength is its line and running backs, so if you want to see M run out 10 personnel and throw 40 passes per game then that’s not really capitalizing on the best weapons available.
August 13th, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
One of the strengths of our running backs is Edwards in the passing game. We have Loveland who projects as a great TE, Wilson as one of the fastest players in the country on the outside and we have a QB that has shown he has the arm to make NFL level throws.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other (run or pass). Unleashing the offense means utilizing all of the strengths of this offense instead of leaning mainly on one aspect of it. Nobody is suggesting we go full air raid.
It’s great that we can line up and run the ball 65% of the time and win games. But we can also achieve more balance and be just as successful, if not moreso.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:47 PM ^
Computer models of offensive efficiency had us ranked around 8th to 12th last year, which is pretty good.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
If the top 11 will all be on the field as starters, it's possible we have more than 5 online men starting.
August 12th, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
The starting 5 OL, second string OL, all the RB, anyone else who runs the ball, JJ, the TEs, then the WRs
August 12th, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
Yes, Edwards and Corum should be on the field together a bunch, with Edwards motioning out to slot receiver 40% of the time when both in the game.
This will force an absurd matchup of DE against a LB which we take all day, or force a safety over to DE.
The conflict this throws at a defense with DE, Loveland, Barner, and CJ or Wilson in while both JJ and Corum can run, will be brutal.
Really just need CJ, Wilson or a young WR to consistently take the top off the defense as they will almost always have a CB on an island given the resources needed to stop the run and TEs
Edwards allows this offense to be so versatile and explosive, similar to USC with Reggie Bush back in the day.
August 13th, 2023 at 9:51 AM ^
You might create more mismatches if you start Edwards in the slot and motion him into the backfield depending on the personnel. Trick the opponent into lining up in nickel or dime and then bring him into the backfield for a running play.
Either they bring an extra DB on the field and you have a mismatch in the running game or they try to cover Edwards with a linebacker and it’s a mismatch in the passing game.
