Sorry, lost me for a minute. It was just so nice to see a Michigan QB just dealing. Putting the ball all over the field.

Not since Chad Henne has a Michigan QB had "elite arm talent" and Henne was forced to play safe unless he was down in the 4th quarter or playing UF in his final game.

Watching JJ develop last year, knowing he's got an entire offseason, I can't wait to see what it looks like this year. No distraction of a QB competition. His team. Everything.

I predict his leap will be massive. I predict he goes from potential to a 1st round draft pick this year...and like Drake Maye, he'll have a decision to make. And like Drake Maye, I hope he runs it back for a senior season, but unlike Maye, McCarty goes into the league with back-to-back national championships.

Ok Im getting a little tired of Wolverines going to the Cowboys. I can never cheer for Dallas or hope for anything but bad things to happen to their team ever. Please stop taking Wolverines Jerry. Please.

DJ Turner to Cincy.

One of a number of examples of great player development over the past couple of years. Michigan really has upgraded its roster from within. DJ Turner produced 4.5-5*-level play for two years, a key cog in a team that *shut down the best receiving corps in the nation* over the past two years.

And now he's a second-round draft pick.

3 Big Ten Centers drafted so far, and none of them named Oluwatimi. Joe Tippmann (Wisconsin), John Michael Schmitz (Minnesota), and Juice Scruggs (PSU) all drafted in the 2nd Round. There is a chance Luke Wypler (Ohio State) could also go before Oluwatimi. Quite a year for centers in the Big Ten in 2022.

What from the pre draft stuff projected those guys better than Olu in the NFL? He was the best college center I’ve seen in a long time this past season. Is it his pass blocking maybe vs NFL level 1/Zero techs? Because his agility and ability to reach tackles and pull is top notch (albeit a skill not always utilized in the the modern NFL).

My thoughts exactly Q.  I didn't read the front page post until now and so sure, some of that makes sense.  But I won't be shocked and expect Olu to be a premier C in the league in short time.  Maybe the other guys drafted already have better NFL qualities but I'm not holding my breath they're better than our (and Wake Forest's) beloved Olu.

Hendon Hooker to the Lions.

It's the 3rd round. I'm not gonna squawk. Although I would like to see some more defense drafted, please.

Obvious the Lions just view this as a talent deficient draft. They've traded down what.. 4 times? And they reached to be sure they got starters that were upgrades over their current roster rather than backups or projects at more valuable positions. I think if other teams were willing to they would've traded down all the way to next year. Problem is other teams probably recognize next year is more talented too.

How do the mock draft zealots like that one? Borderline 1st-2nd rounder according to the pundits in the 3rd round. That's value. Heard the PFF guys say he went past his first read on something like 3 passes in his entire career in that Tennessee offense.  Will be interesting to see how he develops. Low risk high reward pick is perfect for the Lions' QB situation with Goff right now.

If I’m Detroit now, I trade up to the beginning of the 4th or back into the late 3rd and take Ika from Baylor. The dude is a man mountain that demands double teams, and would allow Hutchinson to do his thing one on one. None of the other DTs other than Carter and mazi made much sense, even the two guys Chicago got, and Ika should be there late 3rd, early 4th.

I don't mind taking a project/gamble QB in the third.

I don't really believe Hooker is going to be an elite NFL QB, but neither does anybody else, because it's the third round. But it's worth a shot with this kind of pick. If you roll a couple of sixes you've got a guy to build around who doesn't count much agains the cap for a few years. If you roll something else, you might have a backup which you need anyway.

Absolutely.  Hooker doesn't feel like a guy who's going to be a starter in the league (the fact he didn't really break out until he was 24-25 is a red flag to me), especially coming from a UT offense that is absurdly QB friendly.  But by all accounts he came across as a great guy in meetings and a smart player who picked stuff up quickly.  He's got a good enough arm and throws in rhythm well.  He sometimes got sped up but usually seemed like a guy who got the ball out before the rush came and put his receivers in a position to make a play on it.  Joe Milton was in the same offense and rarely looked that consistent, so it's not purely the offensive system.  And so as a third round shot at a future starter I like it, especially when teams spent top-10 picks on guys like Richardson, or high 2nd round picks on Levis, and aren't assured of any better a player.

For those worried about the Lions defense, see this:

I really like Cominsky. He finished strong last season. They added 3 free agent DBs to go along with a 1st round talent at safety from Bama. And Campbell is arguably an upgrade over Rodriguez or Anzalone at LB. I’m thinking 11-13 wins is the target for this season. Yep, I’m drinking the Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid tonight.

Every year they seem to draft well, just like the Ozzie Newsome Ravens teams.

That said, Carter might start, but Nolan Smith was a best player available pick and no way he starts over Reddick. But now that position is locked down for 10 more years. And that's what great franchises do.

And it makes perfect sense, Brandon Graham is an anomaly, guys don't typically have their prime years as late as he does.

The better bet is...

Reddick is going to continue to be incredible, hit FA and cost too much to keep if they want to stay on top (rather than dumping a bunch of money in an aging player)...in that case, you trade him and you've got Smith ready on less money.

OR

He gets old, past his prime, and you cut him...and you've got Smith ready on less money.

It's just a smart business move. Especially when you just had to back the brinks truck up for your QB.

Ready your tomatoes if you must, but Tyjae Spears & Devon Achane go between 81-85. Seems like a reasonable spot to pick a touted and productive college air back.
