Josh Bartelstein (2012 UM BBall Captain) named Phoenix Suns/Mercury CEO
Pretty sweet gig! Congrats to the young (maybe less young than I remember him) man!
Very cool. Very impressive.
Thanks for posting.
What's the joke from here? Something like "again?... Keith Jackson"?
Oh man. I just saw Beilein tweet out a congrats, saw the Suns tweet was from today, looked at a couple days from the board and didn't see anything, I thought it was post-worthy. I didn't dig deep enough.
Do the President and GM answer to him? Never understood CEOs for NBA teams that weren't ownership.
This is why just being on top tier NCAA teams sets up your future. You don't have to go pro playing the sport to find all kinds of successes. Look at Rob Pelinka. He's been the GM for the Lakers since 2017 and was backup for the Fab Five teams. Playing college sports does give you a boost for your future even you're not a starter or going to play sport professionally.
Or you know - have a dad that's a top agent in the NBA
I do agree that helps too, but I know all kinds of UK players, a lot never started, especially football players that have great jobs and it's all because they played for UK, even well before Brooks made them respectable. The average college graduate doesn't get nearly as many doors opened as former college players do.
Bartelstein's best UM hoops moment has to be when he jumped off the bench before this Trey Burke shot even got to the hoop. He KNEW Burke wasn't missing that shot.
The jump up off the bench as he knew Burke hit the shot before it even went in vs. Kansas is one of my favorite memories. Congratulations young man!
Given the Suns franchise is worth a couple billion dollars, I would say young Bartelstein has done quite well for himself. Value lies in getting your degree from Michigan.
if you think he got this job because of his UM degree, well ...

Isn't is father one of the powerful agents in the NBA. Not saying he didn't earn it but dude may have had a head start.
