USC-RIP Christie McVie

Peace, comfort, and best wishes to her family. So glad I saw her perform with Fleetwood Mac - an incredible band.

her bandmate, mick fleetwood, used to come down to the malibu inn and have an adult beverage or two with us back in the day. talented group, groundbreaking in many ways, and some interesting band dynamics.

Yes. RIP. Songbird is a beautiful song.
PS. Any video of Tusk must be the official video because it has a young Stevie Nicks in a sundress twirling a baton.

Friend of the band Eva Cassidy sang it better. She was a ridiculous talent who died young.

This is my favorite cut of Fleetwood Mac's Tusk with the USC marching band, something they originally worked on at the Coliseum in Los Angeles more than a decade ago. Definitely shares a football flavor.
I fell in love with this song, which Lindsay Buckingham wrote and was used by the producers of the Americans in their opening scene of that long running show.

Christine, don’t know that she ever went by Christie. Fleetwood Mac will always be on my short list of all-time great bands,

🎶 Oh Well 🎶
Look it up before you neg it’s a Fleetwood song
RIP Mrs McVie
November 30th, 2022 at 10:59 PM ^
No neg, but Christine was not in the band when Oh Well was made. Her husband was though.

The Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac. In so many ways a very different band than the one most are familiar with.
December 1st, 2022 at 7:37 AM ^
I’ve been a long time fan of the early ‘boys only’ Fleetwood Mac, Along with Savoy Brown, they were the best rocking blues band from England in the late 60’s, with their best album from that era being Then Play On (just before Peter Green went nuts and left). Christine’s version of the band was not the same, but every bit as good in a more pop vein. I always thought that she was the only one of the new band members which could have fit into the style of the original lineup. What a talent! May she rest in piece, my heart is saddened by this news.

Don’t want to give away my age, but I saw Fleetwood Mac in fall, 1975, opening for Loggins & Messina in Philly. Philadelphia Inquirer was very favorable, calling Fleetwood Mac the best band in town that weekend.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:03 PM ^
Since we're being forthcoming about our age, I saw Yes open for Black Sabbath at Cobo in 1972. And yes, Yes was the best band on stage that evening.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
In 66 I saw Frank Zappa at Northland's Shopping. And Yellow Snow was code for a warning for rolling dollars type before going to The Grande Ballroom.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
OK Rude. I'll see your Zappa and raise you J. Geils at the Cinderella Ballroom April 1972. The show became the Full House live album.
The most insane energy in that hall. When they played Looking For A Love it was incredible. And to think, I had to scrape up maybe $10 to get in.

And I saw the Bob Segar System free of charge at the WLAV Raft Race in Grand Rapids, at that time Segar only really had one hit record "Ramblin Gamblin Man" and was still pretty obscure outside of the metro Detroit region.

Hendrix, Fillmore East, 1968. He was still fresh and clear eyed ...
December 1st, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
You forgot about "East Side Story." Saw them in 1965 in AA at the Fifth Dimension.
December 1st, 2022 at 8:04 PM ^
I was there also Rob. Those raft races were wild!!!

Ok Robbie, I'll see your J. Geils and and raise ya. In the 60's at the Monica Beach Aud and other dive bars. Joplin, Santana, Moody Blues $5.00 before all the good stuff went corporate. Filmore West, Allmond Bros, Monterey Jazz Fest. Now in my 70's its retro bands. I hate my life. /s

I fold. Didn't grow up in California so I've got to concede. That said...
If there was one concert I go back in time and see it would be the Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East. Personally I think Duane Allman was the best guitarist of his era. I know there is a TON of competition for that status but Duane's my guy.

(Was at the 1971 Allman Brothers show at Fillmore East. It was superb)

Best live album. Better than Seger at Cobo. First saw Seger in my high school gym.
I also saw MC5 at the Grande Ballroom. Hows that for giving my age away.

OK. But you wouldn't take off yer Fedora at the Jimmy Dorsey Band but you got the cigarette lady that night. Kudos to you.

Robbie, I agree that Yes was fantastic back in the Bill Bruford days, such a powerhouse of virtuosity. A few years back, there was a multi-hour special on the tube (maybe it was the concert for raising money for the Sandy Hook flooding?). They had a ton of classic rockers performing and each and every one of them sounded like they should have retired a decade earlier, but the one exception was Yes, who sounded every bit as good as they did in the 70’s. Jon Anderson could still sing. It was amazing.

I saw Cheap Trick play a free show on the top of a flatbed truck outside, what was then, Colonial Lanes, before Michigan beat Utah September 2002 or so. The game ended miserably at 10-7 and Cheap Trick was the highlight of the day.

Love this song. Love love LOVE this live version of it.
This is how I will remember this wonderful artist...

Same here. Beautiful melody and harmonious. My favorite featuring Christine.
RIP Christine

She was so immensely talented as a singer and as a songwriter. A beautiful voice has gone silent.
RIP Christine, you were more than Perfect.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:02 PM ^
One of the great music pleasures I've had is a deep dive into pre Buckingham Nicks Fleetwood Mac. Christine Perfect always had an Ace song or two on every album. Amazing mix of strength and vulnerability in that voice
Also RIP Bob Welch, seems like he got a raw deal after keeping the band together before their big breakthrough
November 30th, 2022 at 11:25 PM ^
Extremely underrated musician within Fleetwood Mac and overall. By all accounts, she was the glue that held things together - otherwise Fleetwood Mac would have imploded well before they made all that great music.
RIP Miss McVie.

I've much learning and listening to do of older Fleetwood Mac and this unfortunate passing makes for a good excuse. Years back, after I'd already been introduced to FM (Nick's, Buckingham, Mcvies, Fleetwood) via my parents as a kiddo through the late-80s and 90s (and amplified then when The Dance double-album came out which got MAJOR car play during trips) I realized I really enjoyed that other soft voice in the band. Stevie obviously had the voice to make you stop and turn your head to see what you're hearing. It was great. Lindsey had his role. But Mcvie had this warm, welcoming voice that truly sang out. And could allow one to connect with...maybe easier? Maybe just differently. She was a real talent and the average Joe/Josey, especially this day and age, I don't think knows that. She was the band's secret weapon.

Tusk brings me back to the USC Band playing it at the ‘79 Rose Bowl Halftime, watching from the sidelines (i.e., my user name checks out) not long after the Phantom Touchdown.
RIP, Christine
December 1st, 2022 at 1:38 AM ^
May she rest in peace.
And yeah, FM was two different bands really. Early Peter Green, Bob Welch stuff and then the mega band with Rumours and self titled and Tusk and all.

Ah Yes. Fleetwood Mac B.C., Hypnotized. Bob Welch.

I'm 41, and own 2 albums on vinyl. The are both Fleetwood Mac. RIP!

Fond memories of hours spent in Pinball Pete’s with Fleetwood Mac’s _Rumors_ playing in the background.
RIP Ms McVie, thanks for those memories.

I didn't get into Fleetwood Mac until recently (always thought they were kind of a lame Boomer act) but they're pretty great and McVie was incredible, RIP. Sweet voice and excellent songwriter. And I always thought the use of the marching band on Tusk was awesome.
In honor of McVie I have to post this, one of the best Onion articles of all time...
