The lameness of RG3 was so cringe-worthy that it deserves its own thread

Seriously. This dude needs to be banned from the broadcast booth forever. His "commentary" damn near ruined the game for me.

Mark Jones was so bad that I thought RG3 was bad, but really, it was just Mark Jones. Left tackle is the second most important position of the offense. Hayes didn’t start. Barnhart started at LT and was pulled sometime late 1st quarter or in the 2nd quarter. Neither of these details were pointed out by Mark Jones, who was more interested in dabbing the sweat off of RG3’s forehead.

I thought his Orji in the endzone comment was a little cringe, but overall I was fine with him. I was wondering how Jake Butt was doing. He was on Isiah Hole the other day and I thought he said he was doing a radio call or something.

I wasn't sure if the TV production crew was parodying themselves, by the end, with that clip of RGIII running the stairs for the 100th time...but it made me chuckle they kept showing it.

I actually thought Mark Jones was the weak link.  I enjoyed RGIII's color commentary, and thought he was pretty well prepared.  Maybe it was the contrast against Mark Jones, who couldn't call plays correctly, told us C.J. Stokes is our fastest RB, thought Brad Robbins was kicking FGs, had no interest in telling us who was wearing which number etc etc.

I didn’t thing RG3 provided much insight into anything. Though the Orji thing was funny, his obsession with it was intensely juvenile. And Mark Jones seemed like he was only half watching the game.

I thought RG3 did a good job today. To me there are a lot of guys they could have put in as commentator that would have been way worse. Doug Flutie comes to mind as boring as hell. RG3 knows football and I thought he did a fine job. The Orji comment is probably why you are saying this but don’t let one comment base the entirety of the body of work. I believe RG3 is relatively new to this so with that in mind I would give him a B+ for his work today. I think he will get better and have nothing but respect for those guys. It’s not easy to call a game and there have been a lot of guys that are way worse than RG3 that have been doing it for years.

Best color man in years. Both insightful and funny. Reminded me of Jalen doing college hoops color in the old days. Love that he took time to go into the tunnel, into the gym with players, around town. More please!

I liked him. I laughed at his Orji line after he said he wasnt gonna make any jokes about the name twice. I only shook my head at 'star trooper.' Cmon man.

I might create some sock puppet accounts so that I can upvote this thread.  This is the first time that I have watched a college football announcing pair and come away wishing that I could have gotten Pam Ward or Beth Mowins instead.  Actually Pam Ward doing color commentary with Beth Mowins doing PxP would have been better than the guys we had today.  They were so bad.

RG3 was a babbling idiot who spewed either shallow banal crap or stuff that's not relevant to the game.  He wasn't funny at all.  He was praising McNamara at the end of the first half for his performance.  He's the only guy watching the game who thought he was any good.  His discussion of technique, Xs and Os, etc was non-existent.  Michigan's starting left tackle being out of the game had a significant effect on the flow of the offense in the 1st half and nobody on the broadcast mentioned it.  I don't remember either guy in the mike pointing out a single thing that made sense that wasn't already obvious.

Another pretty significant development in the game was CSU electing not to punt in the 2nd half.  It led to multiple Michigan scores that sealed the game away.  Was the punter being benched because he was bad, or was the coach just being unusually aggressive?  That's the kind of insightfulness that your color commentator is supposed to provide.  I don't think that either guy even noticed.

Right after our game, I flipped on the Cincy-Arkansas game and caught the tail end of NCSU-ECU.  When the ECU kicker missed an extra point, the color guy immediately pointed out that the holder did not get the laces pointed out and that it probably affected the kick.  With that one comment that guy added more value to his broadcast than RG3 added in the whole game today.

It was an all around "F" effort by ESPN.  Worst football broadcast that I have seen in a long time.

Yeah, I know I'm uptight.  But if you're going to stop the game every two minutes for a cut-in to an ACC game or for a commercial, at least earn your damn pay broadcasting the game.
