QB Alex Orji Has Committed to Michigan
The Wolverines have indeed flipped Virginia Tech’s QB. High 3-star dual-threat QB Alex Orji of Sachse, TX, announced he’ll be sending in an LOI to Michigan today.
BREAKING: Michigan flips 2022 three-star #Hokies QB Alex Orji. Orji officially visited Ann Arbor last weekend: https://t.co/78TRbkHI7u

Quick scouting report: The guy’s a tank, a Tim Tebow-type who’s half-QB/half-fullback. Arm strength is awesome, accuracy and mechanics are works in progress. He’s also quite raw—he completed barely half of his passes in a high-level Dallas league. If QB doesn’t work out, it sounds like Orji has a future at that “tight end” position that Michigan often lines up in the backfield next to the quarterback. Which is called “tight end” and not anything else.

A QB who can run with power is such a benefit to playcallers. It's why Urban always leaned so heavily on QB power. Huge in the RZ, short yardage, and numbers in the run game. I like Orji more than Denegal and am very happy with this get.

His low completion percentage worries me though.

Yup. Whenever I see "great arm great athlete low completion percentage" I think Milton.

I’m hopeful he’s a better and more willing runner at least. Then he can be a useful situational piece at worst.

Next year’s great hope, or great frustration, depending on how you look at it………. The Orji-cat

Welp, that throw rolling left from his one yard line to the other team's 40 isn't a club everyone has in their bag.
Tebow is a really good comparison--wonky mechanics, can throw a mile even off platform, built like a tank and a powerful runner.
I'd maybe consider him Joe Milton-plus. He at least understands putting touch on the ball, and his ability to throw on the run rolling to both sides of the field isn't something Milton could do, I don't think. Orji also looks faster and more instinctive as a runner than Milton. He's a longshot to make it as a starting QB, but as an athlete like Barrett who could end up playing a number of positions in addition to providing some longshot QB potential, it's a great pickup.

Yeah, he showed that a couple of times, i.e. throwing 60 yards off the wrong foot. Would agree that he's a Milton+ he put some nice touch on some throws. I could see accuracy might be an issue but this guy has quite a ceiling and won't be expected to see the field much if at all next year anyway.

Wow. Big arm and a Haskin’s leap.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
Wouldn’t it be Haskins’ leap?

Mike Hart but throwier.

Donovan Edwards but thick?

Welcome aboard!
Unfortunately development of super raw guys at the QB position don’t usually go well in college. This one has the sound of an inevitable change in position eventually but who knows, maybe he takes a leap. I don’t think recruiting elite polished qb prospects is going to be an issue going forward so it’s hard to see him staying at qb unless something changes.

We could all use a tight end Orji.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
IDK man, I'm a little concerned. Things are bound to get messy with an Orji in the QB room.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
If we played the portal right we could have had a Penix Orji.
December 15th, 2021 at 10:19 PM ^
If only he’d been here a few years earlier, for a Butt-Orji tight end position.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:24 PM ^
Sounds like Zach Gentry 2.0

There’s your fullback…. ?
December 15th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
Orji doesn't have checkdown in his vocabulary. Like Rex Grossman at Florida, BOMBS ALL DAY!

That dude looks like an absolute beast. Welcome to Michigan young man.

Based on the picture he has a great "game" face for football.

Hail, Hail, the gang's all here.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
Welcome, Mr. Orji!
December 15th, 2021 at 1:14 PM ^
He reminds me of the Greatest Recruit That Never Was: Vic Viramontes
December 15th, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
The best comp for him is Michael Robinson at Penn State several years back. He ended up being a fullback in the NFL.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:37 PM ^
Thought Indiana would go after him.
Upgrade from one Penix is obviously an Orji.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
He completed 50% of his passes? He does not miss even once in the video. Welcome Alex “Brady” Orji.
December 15th, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
This is our 3rd and 1 QB. Looks like an Urban Meyer game manager.
December 15th, 2021 at 9:27 PM ^
If he ever starts for Michigan, I think he'll have a 50% chance of being invited to NYC for the Heisman. A starting UM QB that can do what he can do will be huge news. With that said, I think it's more likely that he'll never start for UM. I'm intrigued however. Good gamble to take.
