Coach NeverPunt resigns. Kevin Kelley out at Presbyterian
After winning his first two games by a combined score of 152-46 (which included former Michigan walk-on Ren Hefley's 10 touchdown pass game, Kelley proceeded to lose his last nine.
It's not clear whether he's returning to the high school ranks, where he won 9 state titles in 18 seasons.
Moral of the story: sometimes you should punt.

So your telling me…. He punted on his college career?

Ever ever punt... OK maybe sometimes, but not when James Franklin does it... But when he fakes field goals you should kick them.
Love that was a former M walk on too

Probably should have punted

I watched them play against St. Thomas (Minn). Embarrassing display of football coaching malpractice from undisciplined players to clock mismanagement to simply punt the ball and lastly, screw the onside kick. Continually put his defense in horrible situations!

"Presbyterian did finish third in FCS in total offense and ninth in scoring offense, but last in scoring defense, "
Seems like with a defense that bad, not punting might have been the correct strategy...

I think their defensive numbers were skewed by how often they were defending short fields due to the steadfast refusal to punt.

How do you change your Username again? Asking for a friend…

Maybe if Kelley can fake a Cajun accent, LPU* (Louisiana Presbyterian University) will hire him...
* checking to see if there's a college by that name.

Aww fiddlesticks.

I have a sense that his approach works to an extent and can be a change-of-pace but in the end you're putting your defense in a tough spot if you always onside kick and never punt because even the most efficient teams are going to run into a team that can slow them down offensively and the math doesn't go your way if your opponents are starting on your own 45-yard-line on average.

Did he jump or was he pushed?
Interesting guy. - says it's all based on analytics. He almost always onside kicks too.
He won nine Arkansas titles going 216-29-1 at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock.
It will be interesting to see where he lands.

Hefley had 30 INTs and was sacked 51 times.

Kelley got the saying wrong. It's not "never punt".
It's "never *bunt*".
