Meant to post something in thread box. Fat fingered it. At any rate it looks like Wisconsin pass rush getting home. Field goal kicking making a difference so far.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
Neither offensive line covering itself in glory thus far.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
Mertz is not the answer at QB for Wisconsin.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:36 PM ^
He looks bad
September 25th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
Enjoying Notre Dame—Wisconsin.
Vandy though, lol. What do we have to do to get them into the B1G? Great academic profile, and we could use them on the schedule on a regular basis.
September 25th, 2021 at 2:06 PM ^
They have a small set of men and women sport programs. They will not be added to BIG
September 25th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
I still don't quite fathom how Graham Mertz is the best option Wisconsin has at QB...
September 25th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
Every once in awhile even a turd shines. So it is with Metz I guess. Just completed a 42 yard pass on the money. But I agree, Wisconsin just does not produce QB's.
September 25th, 2021 at 2:03 PM ^
Russell Wilson
September 25th, 2021 at 3:14 PM ^
He was a transfer from NCSU. I don't think Wisconsin "produced" him.
September 26th, 2021 at 11:14 AM ^
He also went to Collegiate Prep School. What’s your point?
September 25th, 2021 at 12:38 PM ^
Coan is hit or miss
September 25th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
Wow, both ND and WI offenses look pathetic!
September 25th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
Are both teams really good at defense or really bad at offense? I can’t honestly tell.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
Mix of both
September 25th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
I would say watching some ND games that their defense is not really that good. WI has a better D but not a great D. I think we can take WI next week.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
Watching Wiscy/ND, as I'm sure many here are. Wisconsin's offense looks pretty anemic so far. Their defense looks solid against the run, and they're playing aggressive. Three sacks in the first quarter. This will be a test for the UM o-line, and McNamara is going to have to make plays through the air.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:43 PM ^
This part worries me, clearly they look better than I thought they would so far in this game.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
Yep, agreed with this assessment. Wisconsin does look beatable, but this is not a team Michigan is going to be able to pulverize on the ground like a lot of other teams on the schedule. How our passing game compliments what we're trying to establish on the ground, and then obviously executing efficiently through the air, in my opinion will determine if Michigan has a shot at pulling off a victory in Madison.
If we're efficient at running play action and RPO out of the run looks we've put on film thus far, I think we can keep their safeties honest, and out of the box. The key will be to keep Wisconsin off balance with not only play calling, but also the cadence of play calling so we can keep the run game clean and operating at a healthy clip - in the neighborhood of 4.0 ypc. I don't think you can ask for much more than that against this Wisconsin run defense.
Easier said than done, and this will be Cade's first big test on the road as the starting quarterback, so he might look a little jittery early on. I do think our defense should be able to hold them off for a little while while the offense settles in, UW offense does not look very good.
It'll be a tough test for sure, but I do think there is a path to victory in Madison. Just can't let Wisconsin key in on our run game and bog the offense down and we should be in it with a chance to win.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
Coan threw the easiest dropped pick six on ND's first drive. That's probably the biggest thing in this game so far. Notre Dame is lucky it's only 3-0 so far.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
If we can run the ball effectively next week, I think we're a playoff team.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
I think we'd have to be able to throw it when needed to be considered in that group.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
I really think running the ball will be difficult. Hope I'm wrong. We may find ourselves having to win a 16-10 type game ala Penn State/Wisconsin
September 25th, 2021 at 1:20 PM ^
I'm hoping M will open it more than that. But yoi may be right.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
There are lots of wildcats planned
September 25th, 2021 at 1:03 PM ^
Your optimism is amazing.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Michigan is a better team than both ND and UW.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
Not sure I would say that just yet. At least we aren't any worse from the looks of it.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:06 PM ^
You mean team......as in football team?
Don't match up with ND on schedule. We can watch and see how much better we are than Wisconsin.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:06 PM ^
Care to back up that claim with, you know, facts or something?
September 25th, 2021 at 1:37 PM ^
The only data currently available is the 3 games played to date. If you want numbers & data, see this link:
http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm
or
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaa/fplus/2021
Now, it is reasonable to currently assert we are better than Wisconsin based on data yo date. Will we beat them next week? Who knows??
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Wow. Mertz did a thing.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
ND v. WI, aka The Battle of Wisconsin QBs.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Mertz was like 2 seconds late on that third down throw.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
And that right there shows why he is a terrible QB. He can throw but that was a terrible decision, gotta throw that ball while he's open. Put then a 4th and 1 where they decide to run it and get stuffed. In a game of FG's, should have went for the 3 pts.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Wisconsin not good in short yardage? Seriously?
September 25th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Not impressed with the running game of either Wisconsin or ND.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
Foolish Wisconsin. In a clear defensive slugfest and turning down 3 easy points.
September 25th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Yeah, but. . . nothing ventured, nothing gained.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
As a Ohio U fan, this season is going to be brutal
September 25th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
As a Ohio U fan
I thought this was a mythical thing.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Been a Bobcat fan since I was a kid.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
Go Bobcats!! Except when playing the Hurons.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
I think the Wisc and ND is only one of two games this weekend where two ranked teams face each other.
September 25th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
TA&M vs. Arkansas is the other one.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Georgia's going to cover their 35.5 pt spread in the first quarter.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
GA just kicking the shit out of Vandy, up 35-0 in the 1st quarter.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
When's the last time a Wisconsin RB couldn't pick up a yard in a short-yardage situation. Everyone knew UW would run on that 4th and 1, but they can usually get a yard in their sleep. Doesn't seem like the usual UW rushing attack.
Nice deep ball from Mertz earlier in the drive though.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
Could have been PI on Wisconsin
September 25th, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
True, but just about any pass defense *could* be called PI.
