Michigan vs. CMU Baseball Regional Open Thread
It's win or go home today. Michigan's bats struggled a lot yesterday, but they are up 1-0 early in the top of the 1st today on a solo HR.
the game is on espn2
Stranded another runner in scoring position in the top of the second.
Stranded a runner on first in the third inning.
Shouldn’t have made the tournament. What a complete collapse from season to season.
Getting to the tournament more often than not is a good standard for a Big Ten program. That’s where we are at.
Sigh. CMU up 3-1 now in the 4th. That will do it.
Kinda surprised they’re sticking with Weston here. Gotta be real careful.
Well I might have jumped the gun up 1-0 by purchasing tickets for the noon game tomorrow.
Go Blue!!
This year's team really isn't able to actually hit the baseball :(
Aw nuts
down 5-1 bottom of the 5th, this is immensely frustrating
The "It" factor this team had in 2019 is gone. Hoping they can pull out a win today and then take it from there.
The “it” factor was having three high quality starters and the hitting getting hot at the right time
Exactly.
Pitching like we had in 2019 can carry a team a long way at tournament time. We had a near-perfect blend of pitching, defense, and hitting that season. Right now, other than maybe defensively, we are mediocre at best.
That team was very very talented by Big Ten standards. Two pitchers taken in the first 80 picks in 2019, plus an OF just outside 100. 2020 had a pitcher picked in the top 60, two OF in the top 100, and an IF in the top 150. 2019 teams was stacked. 2020 team would have also been very good. This year’s team was always going to be kind of a reset. But the 2019 run kinda skews our expectations.
Just as big as those roster losses is the loss of pitching coach Chris Fetters to the Tigers.
I'm happy for all of them, the players and Fetters, that they're moving upward and getting paid, but that's a lot for the Michigan program to have to replace.
Was just going to mention the pitching coach. That was a huge loss.
Might be a bit premature, but he’s one of the best pitching coaches in all of baseball. I’m biased as a Michigan and Tigers fan, but he just looks like the next big thing.
For sure. Fetter was a big loss, and a great gain for the Tigers. Mize and Skubal have turned a corner, as has the bullpen. It’s not a surprise Michigan has taken a bit of a step back pitching-wise.
Looking like this could be what’s known as the LIFO method to account for inventory. Last (Team) In, First (Team) Out?
hahahahahahah brilliant
But what about the WENUS--Weekly estimated net usage statistics?
Too many bad WENUSes makes for one unhappy ANUS (Annual net usage stats)
Have to get a run or two here
Michigan puts up a total of 2 runs in 2 embarrassing loses. Time to turn the game off.
Ouch. Looks like going home after the 2-out, 2-strike, 2-run home run!
This program has come a long way under Bakich, to say this is a disappointment is an understatement. But to say “disappointing” because of losing a regional tournament is a better expression than we could use since the 80s. We were elated to make a regional, not were disappointed when we don’t win them.
Go Blue
Bases loaded, nobody out and then go scoreless after a strikeout and double play.
Getting blown out by CMU in anything sucks. To them this is like making the CWS.
Oh stop.
MAC level football and baseball.
Did someone take over your account?
Is he wrong? Lol
Yep. He’s wrong.
2 runs against the AAC and MAC? Uh huh. 2-4 in football and lost to the last place Spartans in the east in football. Better hope Bowman beats out Cade for a chance at 3rd or 4th place in the east this year.
Third in the B10 in baseball and a trip to a regional. And let me know when football loses to a MAC team.
Toledo ring a bell? App St maybe? Akron and Rutgers close calls?
Toledo and App St was ages and coaches ago, and Akron and Rutgers were still Ws.
Again, let me know when Michigan loses to a MAC team. It’s only happened once ever.
Just another fan that likes to be miserable, complaining because the baseball team lost in regionals.
Last time Michigan won the B1G was? Hmmmmm, going on 17-18 years?
Keep drinking the blue kool-aid lol. Jim Jones needs people like you.
Must be hard to stay so salty and triggered all the time
I think that based on his history, it is fair to assume (as you seem to) that Bowman is a decent quarterback. If Cafe beats him out, isn’t that a good sign?
Bowman’s highlights remind me of O’Korn’s highlight reel from Houston. If you paid attention, O’Korn wasn’t a Michigan level starting qb. He was a “system” qb in a weaker conference.
I’m only upvoting you for your win!
Fairweather fan
About the only good thing is that at least Michigan didn’t lose to ND. I really really hate losing to those bastards.
That was about as DISMAL a performance of a Michigan baseball team that I can remember..
YIKES that was embarrassing
It’s awesome to see how much fun this CMU team has out there!
Baseball is a lot like hockey. Game to game, results vary wildly. I think it’s also harder to win a regional than a super regional.
Just couldn’t get any hitting going this weekend. Only two hits yesterday. 9 today, but none of them clutch. Whereas CMU scored half of their runs with two outs.
