247 (Sam Webb) vs. Rivals (EJ Holland) drama

Submitted by Magnus on December 15th, 2020 at 2:06 PM

I looked to see if this had been posted on the board already, but Sam Webb over at 247 created a post to take a giant shot at E.J. Holland of The Wolverine (LINK). The only other time I've really seen Webb - or anybody from one of the high-profile sites - design such an ill-intentioned post is when Webb did it to He Who Will Not Be Named in the last year or so. He basically called him a b**** and challenged him to show up at Donovan Edwards's announcement tomorrow and not be a b****.

I like both Webb and Holland for different reasons, but the potshots seem a little petty and immature. I mean, sure, I happen to run a blog and Brian Cook has a tramp stamp and Garrett Fishaw wears socks with sandals, but I don't publicly make fun of them for it. The guys over at Maize 'n' Brew think "Die Hard" isn't a Christmas movie, but I don't shame them for that.

Anyway, I'm not sure what has been Maize 'n' Brewing between these guys over the years, but I just think it's odd that reporters covering the same beat can't be a little more civil.

Oh, and that one guy at that one blog - you know who you are - you're a turd.

Yeah, I said it.

Happy Holidays!

Sam Webb is a program c---fluffer but that might be a little too much for the pearl-clutchers. So I'll just be more diplomatic and call him a sunshine-blowing shill with an awful and irritating nasally voice.

Nah.

But let me direct you to my post a little further down in this thread.

I'm trying to see if that M fan's blogspot site is still up. He had a wicked sense of humor and eviscerated Webb repeatedly. IIRC, the working title was Sam's Webb of Lies for a while.

The sooner people realize that Sam Webb is a clown, the better off they'll be.

It would be the most 2020 thing ever if they met up in a parking lot and started making out, got married, started a family, and then got divorced due to remembering this beef. What if all that happened before year end?

Me being a weirdo aside Sam always seems fairly level headed to me with his biggest fault being to close and in love with the program to objectively cover them (that's normal and who the hell can blame him). It does sound like there is some disgruntled history here but who knows.

I know some are kind of "so-so" on Sam but I like him, not than anyway cares anything I'm saying in this post...I don't.

I dislike Sam Webb very much. I've disliked him ever since he used the "negative discussions affect recruits' perceptions" justification to stifle tough conversations on his site.

He used that in 2010 (in the waning months of Rich Rod's tenure) and I've resented him ever since.

But beyond that, he also shills for clicks imo. I think he leads his subscribers on w/r/t recruits. (Anyone remember the ridiculous Leonard Fournette saga? I sure do.)

I can't wait to read how this season's team is soooo much closer than last season's team and how next season's team will be suuuuper duuuuper closer than this year's team.

There was actually a subscriber who became so suspicious of Sam Webb's bullshit that he started keeping track of Sam's web of nonsense. This Michigan fan would reevaluate all of Webb's caveat-filled ramblings from spring camp, summer workouts, and fall camp. He would do one mid-season recap and an end-of-season recap to see how much Webb got right and wrong. Once he realized/concluded Sam Webb was full of shit, he cancelled his subscription. I wonder if this fan's blogspot site is still up. It was a hilarious read. I remember him writing something like "bullshit is incredibly funny in retrospect after you get past your shame of being duped."

Webb acted like a total boy band fan when he laughed at msu the podcast before they played Michigan. I can't imagine what he was feeling after that diaster. It was embarrassing how he acted on the air. Too be fair this blog was way off before the start of the season. Laughing at msu and Rutgers and called Milton to the all big 10 team. The truth sets us all straight.

I mean, recruits do read blogs and comments on twitter and social media. Xavier Worthy posted on instagram specifically about fans watching what they say to him. It probably doesn't matter often but do we really want to be in a situation where a recruit went onto this forum, saw everyone bashing him for some reason, and then not feeling welcomed by the fan base? Just so we can express our animosity towards a football program we have no control over?

A little humor from Magnus, love to see it!! In all seriousness, I'm a fan of your posts and Touch the Banner as well.

Sounds like some mixed opinions on the ending to the Edwards recruitment. Not sure where this one will end up, but the tea leaves seem to be pointing in a positive direction

EJ Holland is the biggest douchebag in the recruiting business. I know him, and know his schtick. He craves attention and when he isn’t getting it he will go all TMZ and make up drama. He will do anything for attention, because he thinks that’s how to climb in the business, including writing false articles and then just acting like they are hypotheticals. He attacks other analysts on Twitter, including calling another 247 analyst “little man” and when recruits don’t do what he predicts he will bash them. After Spindler didn’t choose Michigan Holland called him & his family liars. He is as asked to leave multiple High Schools because he was creeping out players, coaches & families. The loser takes pictures of himself in front of his car (POS used BMW) and calls himself a fashion aficionado.
He worked at 247 and pulled a BS move to quit his contract to go to Rivals. He says anyone 30 or older is “really old” and he himself to to be fat until he switched to a smoothie diet.
Ive yet to meet anybody in the industry who likes him & he takes shots at everybody. So I would bet my last dollar he took a shot at Webb & Webb wasn’t taking it.
I know there has been multiple times that EJ had to not show up or get out of someplace because he was going to run into someone he insulted. EJ is a 26 year old d-bag who acts like a 12 year old girl.

I respect your lack of emotional attachment. I have trouble detaching from anything UM football related. My go to's are all in or all out. Right now I'm tuned out because I just don't like anything I see or hear and I don't want to be a Debbie Downer. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.

Donovan is announcing tomorrow? I've been so afraid to look at recruiting news, that I didn't know that. I have no opinion on the other stuff this thread is about.

Didn’t Sam get called out by a recruit’s dad for downplaying the kid’s visit to Alabama? He’s probably still salty about that.
