Friday Drinking Thread and 15 days to kick-off POSBANG
Thank you "There are..." for the daily updates.
I hope you all had a great week and have an enjoyable weekend ahead. There's now only one cut-out thread on the first page, so let's have a little pos-BANG-itivity and raise a glass.
Starting here with a Negroni but gonna keep it light tonight with only two. Okay, maybe three.
I wish you all well. Go Blue!

Nothing, just discovered my recent stomach Issues are due to a newly developed malt intolerance. Nothing serious, but I need to really restrict beer and scotch - even most bourbons have 10%-15% malt in the mash Bill.
looks like I may turn into a vodka and white claw basic bitch if I want to have some tipple. Welcome to my 40s

I didn’t know that Malt intolerance was a thing and I am sorry you have it.

Also no Malt-O-Meal™, no chocolate malts at your local Malt Shop, no Ovaltine ™, and when you go trick-or-treating, you have to give me all your Whoppers™ Malted Milk Balls.
(edit: And BANG ME for reminding you of a few more goodies to avoid)

A malt allergy usually indicates a gluten sensitivity. So there goes pizza, pasta and cereal. And don't let em fool ya, gluten free is a very poor substitute.

It takes some hunting, but you can find half-way decent gluten free pasta and bread (but you usually have to toast the bread). I've found a local place that makes decent pies. I have not found a commercial pizza recipe I like, but I have found some recipes that worked out reasonably well.
At the same time, I tend not to eat a lot of that any way. I haven't eaten cereal in years.
I've had worse luck with gluten free beer. It's hard to find the beers that remove gluten (e.g., Omission or Damm Daura), and most of the other beers aren't all that good. Glutenberg in Montreal makes a pale ale that isn't bad; I've had one of Green's beers that I liked (I think the dubbel) but I can't find that around here either.
Distilled spirits are theoretically fine but you have to watch for cross-contamination or additives.
So I mostly drink red wine and the occasional dry cider. Fortunately I like red wine. Pity I'm drinking water for a few weeks.

There are some rice-based beer options that aren't too bad - Japanese Supporro is ok. Meades and ciders can also be quite good at times.

Hendrix gin, some Canada Dry tonic and a splash of lime is deeeeelish
October 10th, 2020 at 5:22 AM ^
Funny, but I hadn't had a gin & tonic in a few years. But I got re-introduced to them when the MGoGirlfriend and I decided to institute a "Quarantine Cocktail Hour" a few months back. I'd forgotten how good they are.

There is also the vastly underrated Gin and Schweppes Bitter Lemon. As for Gins, Hendricks is a solid choice, but my absolute favorite is The Botanist, who’s floral aroma and subtle taste is uniquely profound. Here’s to your good health!

If you're a dude you call white claws "bear claws". It just sounds manly-er. And no doubt they are delicious.

In the spirit of October/fall/Halloween the wife and I are sampling an assortment of pumpkin ales.
October 9th, 2020 at 8:25 PM ^
May I suggest the southern tier pumking?
October 9th, 2020 at 8:28 PM ^
You may! We have a great place down the street that sells nearly everything imaginable by the can/bottle. Good chance they have it.
Not in distribution, but I’m also a big fan of the Pumpkin Pie ale from Third Nature Brewery in Rockford.

Sip Of Sunshine IPA in the glass and just whipped up a Sip of Sunshine-jalapeño cheddar cheese sauce for tomorrow. Had to test it out in some Mac n Cheese. Came out pretty good!

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
Just thought XM might need to know this important fact.
