guthrie, would you go down to watts or over to pasadena and catch a usc/ucla game?
September 16th, 2020 at 7:46 PM ^
I probably would go to a USC game since I drive by the stadium twice a day. But don’t let anyone fool you; it’s still a dangerous area. I would strongly discourage my kids from going there.
I’ve been to the Rose Bowl a couple of times. Didn’t notice any problems but I haven’t been in the area for about 15 years.
September 16th, 2020 at 8:27 PM ^
The Coloseuim is far away from Watts.
September 16th, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
Exposition Park, where USC plays, isn't really near Watts. It's just south of Downtown which is having a long overdue reawakening. Though that is uneven and some parts, like Skid Row, are post-apocalyptic.
Certainly reasonable people can disagree about what they consider "safe," but the USC area of Los Angeles isn't crime ridden like people would have you believe. You can go a half mile in certain directions and there's some bad places, but a lot of LA is like that. Pasadena is very nice but there's some rough parts just north of it. Santa Monica and Venice... same thing.
If the immediate neighborhood is a deal breaker, and it is for some, you're better off in Westwood at UCLA. But that area is booooorrrrrring. ;)
September 16th, 2020 at 9:31 PM ^
It's boring if you don't surf, brah
September 18th, 2020 at 1:52 AM ^
Boring? In LA? Compared to what? Ann Arbor? Detroit?? Where?
September 16th, 2020 at 9:54 PM ^
The area immediately around USC has had some bad years but really isn’t so dangerous, especially during the day. And, sure, there’s a rough section of pasadena, but most of that city is very nice and very safe. And, yes, Westwood is safe but pretty lame.

Arlo---I'll edit your OP to place a link there.
(I certainly didn't want to call you "Woody")

I was on USC’s campus for the first time right before COVID shut down travel. Got there around 2:00pm on a Tuesday and did a self guided tour. Campus is beautiful, everything this Midwesterner would expect, all the way down to the skateboard racks at the back of classrooms in the building I was in. And you can see all the heisman trophies out in the open, including OJ’s
The event I was attending ended around 9pm and when I left the building, it felt like a different campus. Gates to the surrounding streets, that I hadn’t noticed in the daylight, were closed. Access to the campus appeared to be significantly restricted with only a few entry/exit points. I didn’t feel unsafe, but there was definitely a different vibe after the sun went down.
September 16th, 2020 at 7:39 PM ^
It does? How so?
September 16th, 2020 at 7:43 PM ^
The governors are now allowing contact practice and a return to competition. No state restrictions on playing sports.
September 16th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
I'm not sure the staee grads working McDonald's drive up windows can handle something like governors "changing their orders".
September 16th, 2020 at 7:45 PM ^
Please pull around for your total and stuff
September 16th, 2020 at 7:57 PM ^
So it’s not ok to loot private owned business or “occupy” publicly funded streets anymore?
September 16th, 2020 at 8:04 PM ^
Looting is always encouraged. Makes for a strong, law abiding society.
September 16th, 2020 at 9:28 PM ^
Looting is only allowed when it's billionaires robbing the US Treasury.

September 16th, 2020 at 8:20 PM ^
You mad bro?
September 16th, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
yes, actually, i am bothered by the fact that you're completely generalizing a situation in bad faith to score some kind of points on the MAGAscale.
you should stop doing that. and "you mad bro"? really? are we at a sigma chi rush party or something?
September 16th, 2020 at 9:28 PM ^
Why so serious?
September 16th, 2020 at 9:35 PM ^
So it's ok to loot and riot as long as nobody points it out?
September 16th, 2020 at 8:40 PM ^
Go back to your cave, troll
September 16th, 2020 at 9:34 PM ^
Shouldn't have hit save. I thought the comment was funny and don't understand getting bent out of shape.
September 16th, 2020 at 10:37 PM ^
Don’t tell me what to do, you’re not my financial advisor nor overly aggressive manager!
September 16th, 2020 at 9:17 PM ^
U mad, bro?
September 16th, 2020 at 8:02 PM ^
Looks like this post is missing context
September 16th, 2020 at 8:06 PM ^
You get hit by a train the first time, everyone feels sorry for you.
You get hit by one a second time, everyone thinks you did it on purpose for attention.
You get hit by one a third time, everyone completely ignores you.
September 16th, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
I actually didn't get hit by a train.
It's a bit I'm doing.
September 16th, 2020 at 8:37 PM ^
how can you be so sure?
(I laughed at the bit)
September 16th, 2020 at 9:41 PM ^
It's all fun and games until TPC poops the tub.
September 16th, 2020 at 9:51 PM ^
Back in February 2019, we had to soak a newly born calf in hot water in the bath tub so I guess that's a way of pooping the tub.
September 16th, 2020 at 11:10 PM ^
Shut up Don
September 16th, 2020 at 8:07 PM ^
Somehow i understood what this post was about. Maybe I’m the idiot.
so, who’s up for a big / pac showdown in January?
September 16th, 2020 at 8:12 PM ^
Hmm almost like the concern over COVID is whatever your political party tells you...
September 16th, 2020 at 11:54 PM ^
That's funny ... :-)
September 16th, 2020 at 8:18 PM ^
well this is great, except my air quality index is still in the 400's, so until the fires are out not much is happening out here. Saw a report that the smoke is already in NY and even Europe

Here in Portland, we're supposed to have rain Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. That should do wonders for our air quality. Where are you located?
September 16th, 2020 at 8:32 PM ^
Milwauikie
(for the rest of you that's basically Portland)
I agree it'll get better for us, thinking these fires will burn until the real rain comes
September 16th, 2020 at 11:01 PM ^
Hey, we've got a few Portlanders on this board... I'm just a stone's throw from Milwaukie. Not holding my breath on the forecast; weren't we supposed to get rain yesterday? Scratch that – I *am* holding my breath.
September 16th, 2020 at 11:10 PM ^
I noticed that too, like 3 or 4 of us weirdos in here, one person in Lake O
Now they are calling for a thunderstorm.... just what we need, lightning
September 16th, 2020 at 11:43 PM ^
Portlander here as well! Cheers and pray for rain!!
September 16th, 2020 at 11:43 PM ^
Yeah, the rain forecast ended up not working out the other day. Fingers crossed for Thurs-Sat. This is from weather.gov.
September 17th, 2020 at 12:05 AM ^

Peer pressure and ?? Or perhaps they have become enlightened like the president of Rutgers?
September 16th, 2020 at 9:27 PM ^
Peer pressure and money. Powerful motivators they are.
