Birthday Brag
Got a special birthday surprise today. My phone rang with a FaceTime call today. It was my old next door neighbors and good friends from when I lived in Tampa. He is now the Vice President at Morgan State University. Also on the video call was one Mr. Tyrone Wheatley, who of course is now the Head Coach at Morgan State. We talked for a few minutes, he wished me a Happy Birthday and thanked me for supporting Michigan for all these years and talked about how he faced Rockford (where I currently live) in the state playoffs back in his High School days. Have to admit that I felt like a little kid talking to one of my all time favorite Wolverines!!
Very cool, and happy birthday!
(Today also happens to be Mrs. Appleton’s birthday.)
So we know at least 2 people that will be sporting wood tonight!
Don’t be ridiculous!!
Today is Mrs Brutus's birthday too.
Something fishy going on here?
you mean dr. brutus, don't you?
If he did, that indeed would be fishy, because my better half is Dr. Appleton.?
see below, larry. now we need to figure out if you're married to the same woman, or you and EYB are duplicate accounts, with different hair problems in your avatars. mgonational enquirer wants to know...
It's been a while since we had a good duplicate account tale. RollTide!
I'm looking forward to whatever mgonational enquirer can tell us here.
Yesterday she was Mrs Brutus. She needed a day off from being a Dr. Lol
Yesterday she was Mrs. Brutus. Today she will see MgoDivorce attorney Frankie Boombatz (Vinnie's half brother). Tomorrow she will be Mrs. Dr. Appleton.
Are we clear?
One of the last great RB’s we have had. Hoping Charbonnet or Corum can be the next one!
That first sentence is just ig’nant.
So you think Wheatley wasn’t one of the last great running backs we have had? I didn’t say he was “the last”.
The school rushing record was broken twice after Wheatley left.
Biakabatuka? Hart? Chris Perry?
He did say one of. He didn’t say one of how many.
Those guys were good to great.. and I would say I loved Mike Hart because he didn't fumble and his ability to miss the first hit, shifty right?. Biakabatuka ... well his potential showed up sometimes and WOW! Of course. Chris Perry was a very solid RB but not on the level of TY.
TY had that classic RB frame, consistency, with extra special ability imo.
And speed. Watch the highlights on youtube.
“Sometimes” and “potential” on Touchdown Tim? He ran for >1800 yards in 1995!
Biakabatuka ... well his potential showed up sometimes and WOW! Of course. Chris Perry was a very solid RB but not on the level of TY.
Biakabutuka set the school record for yards in a season and Perry won the Doak Walker Award.
To specify...”one of the last” is not the same as saying “the last great running backs”.
Wheatley is one of the last great running backs that Michigan had, and all of those great running backs essentially coming in the Carr era. Hart, Perry, ATrain, etc.
So true and we also haven't had a good passer since Stanfield Wells. His passes were "spectacular" and he use to hold the school record for most passes in a game.
They were spectacular, but were they real?
fun stuff, good for you and happy b-day. care to share what # it is?
Same as Harry Newman's Jersey number! ;-)
no pics i could find, but i bet WD has it in his super guide.
the closest i got was his wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Newman
I believe WD had Harry Newman as his userpic back when he first started posting on the MGoBoard.
Are you unfamiliar with the Bentley data base?
https://bentley.umich.edu/athdept/rosters/football.php
I should have given you this one:
cool links. however, when i put newman's info in the 'rosters' link, i got a 'sorry' no match report. probably operator error.
The error is theirs. Put just "newman" in and you get both Sr. and Jr. Put in "harry" and "newman" you get nothing. I guess the Sr. and Jr. are screwing it up.
Hello Newman
It was my birthday yesterday! I didn't meet any football stars, but I birdied two holes at Calderone Golf Club yesterday.
Or, perhaps you holed two birdies.
Edit: Nice edit.
Happy Birthday neighbor!!!
GO BLUE
Very cool. Happy Birthday from Hudsonville - not too far from you!
I also recently had a birthday, and my present was way better. But this is a family blog.
Hopefully nothing from zach smith's ebay sales???
Yeah, that's right sexy bits were banned in 2016. This site use to be a lot wilder not too long ago.
Can confirm.
I used to have a much better avatar than the 17 year old me.
?
First HAPPY BIRTHDAY
And Wheatley was a man among boys in high school. We used to help with the indoor state track meets at UM and one our tasks was to "recruit" him to run track as well as focus on football. He was a high level hurdler and world class long jumper. He helped Michigan win a Big Ten track title. He was a Michigan legend in my perspective
That's awesome! Happy Birthday!
Met Wheatley and the Coaching staff at one of the Satellite camps some years ago.
He was larger than life when I was growing up. Made me think like I was a youngster again, even though we're about the same size.
Just looked up his height and the Combine said he's 6'0. And it says he ran a 4.53. That's moving for a guy his size but I still though he was much faster.
He would gave been a top 5 pick if he entered the draft after his Junior year. At the time I was ecstatic he came back for his Senior season, but history has proven you should leave early if you can go in the 1st Rd.
Although I was disappointed at the time, Ty Law, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson made the right call.
Was just going to post same thing.
Pretty sure Tyronne was about the last (please note I didn't say THE last) player of prominence who decided to stay that last year even though he was projected top 5 in draft. Everyone saw what price he paid and learned from it.
Dude was an absolute beast as a rb though. I'll put his 93 Rose Bowl game up against Touchdown Timmy's 95 OSU game as the two best games I ever saw a Michigan RB have.
That 4.53 isn’t accurate. Googled his 100M at 10.46 and 110M hurdles at 13.77. Those are just a few ticks slower than Olympic levels.
Happy birthday, fellow North Kent citizen!
