That include the Fox app? If so, kind of a kick in the nuts to anyone with a Roku wanting to watch the SuperBowl.

Appears so, on the bright side Amazon has fire sticks 15 dollars off today. Just picked up one for 27 dollars.

The Yahoo app is streaming the SB for free.

EDIT: Upon further reading it's the standalone fox channel. I use an antenna for network channels so I'm good there...seems FoxSports app will remain?!
Well bend me over and call me Sally.
This is some bullshit.

Sounds to me like it’s all FOX channels since channels was written with an ‘-s.’
January 30th, 2020 at 9:38 PM ^
Yea I think the initial take is right. Sonofabitch. (Not sure why the "standalone" wording is used)
January 30th, 2020 at 9:32 PM ^
Well fuck
January 30th, 2020 at 9:42 PM ^
It's all seven Fox channels, including the BTN app, which is annoying.

I cancelled directv after a few weeks ago after 15 years with them. I'm using rokus and hulu live. Love it so far. I'm also running ethernet to most of my tvs so I don't have to worry about using up wireless bandwidth.

So.....fuck u roku?
Glad i have DTV

Because Fox sucks!

I have Hulu on Roku for since 2013 but I'm thinking of switching to youtube TV and use apple TV or fire TV. Youtube seems to have more sport channels and has the B1G network. Ever since Disney purchase Hulu, my streaming has went to shit (a lot of pauses and restarts on live shows), too many users and prices have been increasing.

i've got youtube tv now. it is pretty cool and i set my location to michigan so i can get the local detroit area sports because i can get LA sports over antenna.

For me, everyone having their own streaming service at this point is even more annoying than just paying for cable. At some point there will be a service that combines several streaming services, then several more, then it will essentially be just like cable all over again.
January 31st, 2020 at 7:09 AM ^
Well Psvue went out of business yesterday, so everybody doesn't have their own streaming service. Don't worry, more will follow until one company has a monopoly.

Yup, I've seen this coming for quite some time, also. Someone on Ars, maybe, said that they really just wanted one provider that could consolidate their streaming services for them. Not sure it was serious or stated ironically, but that would essentially be the second coming of cable.
I wonder how long until Xfinity works out deals to be the intermediary between the consumer and various streaming services. Hey, you don't need the full cable bundle, but pay us one low monthly fee and you'll bundle high speed internet and subscriptions to all your favorite streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YTV, CBS all access, HBO Max, etc.).
January 31st, 2020 at 10:09 AM ^
Xfinity is already taking that step.
January 31st, 2020 at 3:45 PM ^
They're pulling in apps onto a single platform, but you still need your separate subscriptions to each.
I'd be surprised if they haven't already been in discussions with the various streaming services to bundle subscriptions through Xfinity, so you're just paying Xfinity one price and getting access to the streaming services through your Xfinity account and not individual netflix, disney+, hulu, etc. accounts.

I dropped Sling when they got rid of the Fox regionals, and now it's becoming apparent that Fox is really squeezing these services. Whether one has cable or a streaming service (or services), it's likely the consumer is always going to get screwed in the end.
January 31st, 2020 at 9:48 AM ^
I'm sure I pay less now than I did 15 years ago for a better product. I can watch pretty much any show I want on demand on any device. Not sure how that is getting screwed unless you expect it for free.

yesterday
Re: Fox Channels No Longer Available On Roku
Hi everyone,
Thanks for reaching out.
Our distribution contract with FOX Corp is set to expire on Jan. 31 so FOX channels were removed from the Roku Channel Store and will soon be removed from the Roku platform. Our discussions with FOX continue and we hope to reach an agreement soon. Let FOX Corp know you want FOX on your Roku device!
Standalone FOX channels include:
- FOX Sports
- Fox News Channel
- Fox Nation
- FOX NOW
- Fox Business Network
- BTN+
- FOX Soccer Match Pass
You can still view FOX programming including this weekend's big game through Fubo, Sling, Hulu Live, YouTube TV and many other ways on Roku. Many of these services even offer a free trial.
*Fox Nation customers who subscribed through Roku will see a prorated refund. Please refer to our email communication to subscribers for more information.
We'll provide any further updates that we hear.

Old white guy turns on TV. Tries to watch Fox News via Roku. Bangs top of TV. Screams "honey, it won't let me watch my racist bullshit!"
A small if temporary victory for sanity and America.

Expected to come into this thread and find is rife with political undertone, and it's not.
I'm......impressed?
