Multiple transfer portal crystal balls for a Spartan to become a Wolverine
Sam Webb and 247sports national writer Chris Hummer have both put in crystal balls for an interesting transfer portal player.
Edward Warinner, a former 3 star LB at Michigan State who recently entered into the portal.
He actually played against us back in November when we curb stomped them. He made a tackle or two on kickoffs and was apparently trending towards playing time at MSU with him getting a lot of run on kickoff team.
He is the son of Michigan OL coach Ed Warinner.
If this happens, it would be the first time ever that someone from either side of the Michigan-MSU rivalry would cross the line.
Michigan-OSU has had 3 guys cross over to the other side. Howard Yerges and JT White left Ohio State and starred at Michigan to lead the Wolverines to a national championship in 1947.

This would be the least surprising transfer. "Hey dad, mind if I play for your team?"
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:57 PM ^
All the Ed Warinner’s belong to us!
January 3rd, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
Given how haphazardly the NCAA applies da rulez... I’m sure we will be hit with a violation.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:01 PM ^
If adding Edward will help us continue to have Michigan OL coach Ed Warinner on staff, then I'm all for this choice! Our O-Line has made significant strides under Warinner.
It also helps that Edward looks like he has some talent too!
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:07 PM ^
I agree. And if he happens to contribute on the field, that’s just a bonus.
January 4th, 2020 at 10:13 AM ^
Plus it will make things a lot less awkward around the Warriner house on Thanksgiving.
January 4th, 2020 at 1:18 PM ^
I always thought that must be a weird thing for the Warriners... to have father and son on either side of a rivalry.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:02 PM ^
Is LB a position of need?
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:19 PM ^
We graduate two outstanding seniors: Hudson and Glasgow, so yes. But also, making Warinner happy= pricelesss
January 3rd, 2020 at 9:22 PM ^
So UM needs DTs, LBs, and DBs. Others than that the defense is stacked.
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:34 PM ^
I'm still waiting for that 6'8" 340 lbs walk on DT to show up one summer and lead the team in tackles.
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:44 PM ^
Mazzccua is 6'5" 330# as a HS senior...and look at how this kid moves and is put together. He's is an outstanding OG but his body also has DT/NG written all over it.
January 4th, 2020 at 12:49 AM ^
Glasgows never grow that tall
January 5th, 2020 at 10:01 AM ^
I thought Glasgow was a DE or DT?!?!?!
I kid, I kid
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:45 PM ^
no. by the time hes eligible michigan will have like 8 young LBs fighting for reps
January 3rd, 2020 at 9:44 PM ^
Why shouldn't he have immediate eligibility? The NCAA hands it out like candy these days.
January 4th, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
He should allege that someone called him the "H"-word (Honkey) or the "C"-word (Cracker). That should do the trick.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:02 PM ^
That would mean we’d keep Warinner so that’s good
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:03 PM ^
Not true. Under Hoke we had a longsnapper go play for them.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:08 PM ^
I did a pretty good search before posting that. Who was it?
Also, I shouldn’t have said either side because I really only know our history of incoming transfers because I have the list. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone left here butthurt and went there for playing time.
To my knowledge nobody has transferred from here to there and I know for a fact we’ve never had an ex-sparty.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:09 PM ^
First name: Deez.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:31 PM ^
I am missing something... I feel like Wolverine Devotee would love to know more about Deez. Clearly the superguide could be missing some important information about Deez.

Aww, nutz.
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:33 PM ^
Who's we?
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:41 PM ^
I recall there was a walk on longsnapper who played here under Hoke...and was somehow offered a scholarship at MSU and he went there. Forgot his name... look harder...
January 3rd, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
Greg Cooper, who was a fairly heavily recruited instate DB in the Lloyd years.
January 4th, 2020 at 1:35 AM ^
Good call. He was a borderline top 100 safety who came to campus and left before the 2002 season got very far, maybe even during training camp? People had thought he was going to MSU because he was buddies with Trannon and like all of the Flintstones etc since he was from Flint Northern I think? But obviously those were the days of Bobby Williams. He played some but I don't remember him really having an impact at MSU. I don't think he played a snap at all here, would have been redshirting until he left.

Tim Laws transferred to MSU around the time of the Moeller to Carr coaching change (roughly, it's been 25 years so I may not be remembering the details correctly). He was a DE and just a guy, to my recollection. Surprised more folks don't remember this...it wasn't exactly a Boren prequel, but Law's choice of a new school certainly raised eyebrows at the time.
January 4th, 2020 at 10:29 AM ^
This about Tim laws is true. I was a junior in high school and played against him when he was a senior. although he did transfer I don't think he ever played for MSU because he was in a lot of trouble. I know his uncle very well.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:18 PM ^
I believe you are thinking of a walkon commit to Michigan that decided to accept a scholarship to MSU but I can't remember his name. I don't think he ever played for Michigan.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
That's not true.
You're thinking of Taybor Pepper, but he was only committed to Michigan as a preferred walk-on before flipping to MSU.
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:42 PM ^
Maybe you're right... I oddly recall he played for us one year.
January 4th, 2020 at 11:20 AM ^
He never played for us. He decommitted (if that is what it is called for a PWO) and went there.
January 3rd, 2020 at 9:58 PM ^
1. Why would you ever go against WD when it comes to this stuff?
2. WD, have you ever thought about volunteering or trying to get a job in Athletic Communications with UofM?
Thought I read that you're in college...if so, you should give it some thought! You'd be great!
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:18 PM ^
This is the WD Difference - and I will be the first to buy a WD T-shirt if (and hopefully when) it happens.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:39 PM ^
Is it adidas?
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:52 PM ^
Can I get a probably?
kidding aside - it will 100% be jumpman...
January 4th, 2020 at 7:34 AM ^
WD has his own logo. It's not bad.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
If it keeps Warriner the Elder around, I'm all for it.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
Any insight into the motivation for the 180 switch? I mean, if playing for dad wasn’t enough when he first committed then why now all of a sudden, especially if he was trending towards PT? I don’t follow MSU football so I don’t know, but are they having an unusual number of players abandoning ship or something? Or is this just a crazy fluke/dad move?
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:29 PM ^
did he have an offer out of high school? Looking at the ratings thats unlikely. A lot of youth in the LB group now so he can come in and at least provide depth.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
Looks like his best offers were West Virginia, MSU, and Rutgers according to 247.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
He signed with MSU before his dad came to Ann Arbor.
Yes, MSU is losing a lot of players, but it's hard to say this move is related to any others.
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:55 PM ^
My guess is this upcoming deposition will cause a public firestorm, and he knows Dantonio will be pushed out.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:29 PM ^
Hopefully there is an appropriate amount of hazing.
January 3rd, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
And fumigating.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:30 PM ^
I’m actually surprised MSU didn’t even try to go after Warinner Sr. as an OC candidate. Lord knows they needed to shake up their offensive staff, plus they already had a good selling point.
January 3rd, 2020 at 8:56 PM ^
They do NOT need to shake up their staff. Maybe shuffle them around a bit, but they good from where I sit.
January 3rd, 2020 at 9:11 PM ^
Did anyone expect Dantonio to fire assistants before the lawsuit filed by Blackwell is over?
Or for MSU to shell out big money for assistants?
Aside from those points, I don't think Warinner is the kind of OC MSU needs to shake up their offense.
