Our rival is getting a new HC - Schiano to Rutger
B1G news in NJ football, as Rutgers tries to corner their man and wall off the Garden State. Schiano in play, according to numerous sources.

Let’s just hope against hope that he does not fence the garden...

I get the joke, but with him in NJ and Locksley in MD, OSU, PSU, and we will have a much harder time pulling talent from that region.
Laugh as you will, but Rutgers has more NFL talent than us right now (removing Brady, because GOAT). Barkley was RU bound and Schiano would have actually gotten him.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:25 AM ^
Rutgers has more NFL talent than us right now? What does this comment even mean?
November 4th, 2019 at 1:53 AM ^
He means more former Rutgers players are currently active in the NFL, which I believe is technically true.
November 4th, 2019 at 3:30 AM ^
It is not. Michigan has 24. Rutgers has 11.https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2019-09-03/colleges-most-represented-2019-nfl-rosters

Fake News

Completely ignoring your laughably incorrect assertion that Rutgers has more talent in the NFL than Michigan...
Let me get this straight: Michigan doesn't get credit for Tom Brady (because he's...too good?) but Rutgers gets credit for Saquon Barkley because...he was committed there at one point and in your opinion would have stuck with it had Schiano been the coach? I get that right?
November 4th, 2019 at 9:02 AM ^
I hope it was a typo and you meant to say "NJ has more NFL talent than the state of Michigan." Then I could believe what you're saying.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:06 PM ^
I think this hire makes them the 5th or 6th best team in the East overnight.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:10 PM ^
The media be speculating on Schiano going to the NFL any moment now. His wife, she doesn't want to move to the northeast.

probably a smart hire for them... guy was responsible for the greatest period in Rutgers football history.
tough to go back again and recapture what they had previously though.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
They're probably the best each other can do at the moment. He really won't have expectations of recapturing that era. If they win a bowl game, they'd carry him off the field at this point.
I wonder how Tenn fans feel about chasing him off now.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:30 PM ^
Keep in mind, Rutgers wasn’t exactly great when Schiano was around - and wasn’t in the B1G East. (And, jeez, what would have happened with Michigan football if Schiano hadn’t reneged on his deal with Bill Martin?!?)
November 3rd, 2019 at 11:25 PM ^
Actually I believe they were, in fact, in the Big East. Just not the other B1G East, as you indicated.
November 3rd, 2019 at 11:40 PM ^
Rutger actually earned its "s" when Schiano was coach there. They went from typically awful Rutgers to a bowl-eligible, nationally-ranked, contend for conference title Rutgers.
Name someone else in the last half century who has done that at Rutgers other than Schiano?
November 4th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
How much of his success at Rutgers (2001-2011) can be attributed to playing in the Big East? The conference is a basketball/other sports conference and the football teams have all struggled in the bigger conferences.
Former members such as Miami, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, and West Virginia have all gone on to major football conferences and none have actually won a conference championship in their new conference. All those schools are in talent rich areas also (maybe not West Virginia as much as the others).
Maybe he gets them to respectable and bowl-eligible, however contending for a conference title I think would be a stretch.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
I most definitely did not say anything about Schiano bringing Rutgers into B1G title contention. Yes, playing in the Big East was why Rutgers was ever a conference contender, but even those Rutgers teams would win between 3-5 games in the Big Ten. That's nothing that can be said about Rutgers since Schiano left, possibly except for Gary Nova's best season.
November 4th, 2019 at 9:55 AM ^
I mean Schiano did get Rutgers to 11-2 one year.

Terrible title, man. Makes it sound like a done deal. How hard is it to just type, "Schiano meeting with Rutgers about HC position"? Fuck.

That video has not aged well. Love the Ray Rice appearance. Plus, would they even allow a real axe on the field in 2019?
Also, I never realized how much a younger Schiano looked like a cross between George W Bush and Lloyd Christmas.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
Lloyd W. Bush? George Christmas? "Lloyd Brady" caught on, so you might be on to something.
