Spanellis appreciation for best block of all time in a Michigan uniform
Arguably the best block (away from the play ;) ) in Michigan football history. Wouldn't be surprised to learn his favorite movie is The Blind Side.
Give that man his helmet sticker. Totally surprised, given the officiating crew tonight, that this wasn't flagged. Go Blue!

I keep seeing it making rounds on Twitter. I’ve watched it too many times to admit.

Life imitates Art. Blind Side
Fucking go to the bench.

He took him to the bus

That block was reminiscent of the scene in that bad movie "The Blind Side" which Sandra won the cheap Oscar for.

Someone in the huddle must have told Spanellis that Shea is his family.
October 27th, 2019 at 2:49 AM ^
I was pretty surprised he didn't pick up a flag for that. I mean, he was 10 yards out of bounds and still blocking.
October 27th, 2019 at 3:02 AM ^
Someone mentioned on twitter that if he starts engaged with the man in bounds, then he can carry the play out of bounds with no penalty.

Why would he pick up a flag? Sainrisil was still running, albeit to the other side but Spanellis can't see that. His job is to take his guy out of the play and he did with aplomb.

The referee was standing right there. I think he was as impressed as we were.

John O'Neill crew.
Out of bounds blocking. "I'm going to allow this."
Absolutely no contact with the receiver. "This is blatant pass interference!"

It was picture perfect way to illustrate this whole game in one play.
The game was straight catharsis. The rain just made the archetype a little more cinematic.

This could be called the Ed Warinner difference.
October 27th, 2019 at 7:25 AM ^
ND fans wish that had been Kelly: "he had to go, time to get back on the bus!"
October 27th, 2019 at 7:28 AM ^
I have not seen OL play from M like this against a decent for many years. It was a thing of beauty.
October 27th, 2019 at 7:39 AM ^
I don’t have the link to embed, but Jehu Chesson surely would submit his triple downfield block for consideration for best of all time.
Love that both plays in consideration came against ND too.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:08 AM ^
Chesson's block doesn't qualify in the "away from the play" category. It was a great block though.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:23 AM ^
Fair point.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:06 AM ^
There was nothing wrong. There was no reason to flag it. That could be used to show what play till the whistle means.

This reply by Apollo Thunderstruck was money.

Don't do this shit again... Someone will flag it.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:44 AM ^
Not a penalty.
October 27th, 2019 at 9:25 AM ^
Agreed not a penalty. But if we do this when leading OSU by a small amount you know it will be.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:42 AM ^
That’s going to be shown at every home Michigan-ND game for the rest of our lives
Instant classic rivalry moment
October 27th, 2019 at 8:50 AM ^
It's funny I don't remember seeing this in any of the highlights after the game. That was the best part of the entire game.
October 27th, 2019 at 9:07 AM ^
Those 2 tough catches by DPJ were great too.
Onwenu pancaking his man on the goal line, while Charbonnet follows him in for TD, was pretty cool too.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:50 AM ^
LOL! That was hilarious! I was worried about a flag too, I didn't know the rule.
October 27th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
Reminds me of this a few years ago, this one got the flag though.
October 27th, 2019 at 9:51 AM ^

Every youth football player should be shown this highlight as an example of how to finish a block.

Sustain your block...all the way to Stadium Blvd!

That was awesome! Best block ever!
