Maybe we should always take the ball off the toss.
I keep thinking: "our offense can't really be this bad--next week, we'll finally get it going!"
October 10th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
Or, we can fall behind and still win like we have done 50% of the time.
But yeah, smart aleck aside - let’s score first.
October 10th, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
Let's do that more, then.
October 10th, 2019 at 11:39 PM ^
Yep. Get the ball. Run the scoring play. Win.
October 10th, 2019 at 7:53 PM ^
42-0 in the Harbaugh era when we score the most.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:01 PM ^
That's solid!! I had no idea his record was that good when scoring more!
October 10th, 2019 at 8:12 PM ^
I can't believe he's been here long enough to coach that many games. Time really does speed up as you get older.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
You can’t prove that Hatter.
October 10th, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
Like a roll of toilet paper... It goes faster near the end.
October 11th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
I still feel like the 2016 season was last year
The idea that it was 3 years ago is BAFFLING to me
October 10th, 2019 at 11:11 PM ^
Reminds of the old saying "100% of putts that come up short don't go in". Har dee har. Elbow jab. Elbow jab.
October 10th, 2019 at 7:59 PM ^
Just score, baby.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:06 PM ^
Let's score first then.
(I'm available for consultation if anyone wants any more gems of wisdom like that.)
October 10th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
So what are the stats when we don't score first ?
October 10th, 2019 at 8:48 PM ^
Other than the 11-11 stat mentioned in the OP?
October 12th, 2019 at 10:32 AM ^
Yeah, apart from that one
October 10th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
Something that really pisses me off is when we drive all the way down into the opponents red zone--or even WORSE, inside their 10 or 15 and kick a FG instead of going for it on 4th and 4 or fewer.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:16 PM ^
Off the top of my head:
Lost vs MSU in 2015 after scoring first
Lost @ OSU in 16 after scoring first
Lost vs OSU in 17 after scoring first
This one I’m not positive on, but Outback Bowl?
October 10th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
msu 2015
osu 2017
msu 2017
iowa 2016
October 10th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
Didn't we also score first in 2016 OSU? I thought we led 3-0.
October 10th, 2019 at 11:17 PM ^
Yes that's correct, 3-0
https://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400869650
And that damn Outback Bowl:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Outback_Bowl
This 31-4 stat seems wrong
October 10th, 2019 at 8:18 PM ^
We’ve never lost a shootout under Harbaugh have we? I feel this stat just shows Offense has always been our limiting factor. If we can score easily we will win because save about one game per season (not always THE game) the defense keeps us in the game even under Durkin.
Only exceptions:
2019: Wisconsin
2018: OSU
2017: PSU
2016: pretty much no game
2015: OSU
October 10th, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
The peach bowl vs UF if you want to count that I guess
October 10th, 2019 at 10:42 PM ^
Maybe the Orange Bowl against FSU (33-32).
October 11th, 2019 at 5:50 PM ^
That missed tackle by Glasgow haunts me more than it should.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
This, handling adversity poorly, surprises, baffles and disappoints me...and that is what is in play here. That Jim Harbaugh does not instill a high level of resiliency in this regard is confounding-I thought this would be one of his areas of strength.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
I heard the team that scores more points and the teams who take a knee multiple times in the fourth quarter generally win. We should try that too
October 10th, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
Get the ball, get a score, get a stop, then watch the other team panic.
October 10th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
October 10th, 2019 at 8:38 PM ^
Illinois? Never heard.
October 10th, 2019 at 9:19 PM ^
Impressive data.
October 10th, 2019 at 10:01 PM ^
Unfortunately, I believe scoring at all is going to be a huge issue with PSU, ND, OSU, and MSU on the horizon. Coach Harbaugh knows it terrible, however, his answers are his disconnect probably due to his possible reentry to the NFL in January.
October 10th, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
I must’ve missed two games because I went through and counted 9 wins when the other team scores first...
2015 vs Oregon State
2015 vs Minnesota
2015 vs Penn State
2016 vs Colorado
2016 vs MSU
2017 vs Florida
2018 vs Northwestern
2019 vs MTSU
2019 vs Army
October 10th, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
No you’re right my bad. We trailed Purdue(2017) and Indiana(2018) at the end of the first quarter but we scored first.
So 33-4
9-11
October 10th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
If we score (a TD) first and we play Iowa game type defense, PSU best quit at that point.
October 11th, 2019 at 4:44 PM ^
October 11th, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
Well we started off down 7-0 to MTSU and Army and won those... down 7-0 against Wisconsin and got blasted. I think this stat is pretty telling (particularly on the road). Cant get down 7-0 at PSU and expect to win.
