OT: Former Texas RB Cedric Benson has died
Had a great career at Texas before getting hurt in the Rose Bowl against us. Won the Doak Walker award that year. RIP

Bummer, I was really happy for him when he finally seemed to get a grip on all of his mental illness issues, like the social anxiety and other social weirdness. Last time I saw something about him, he was turning into a big medical marijuana advocate.

Are you thinking of Rickey Williams? Did they both have mental illness and marijuana advocacy?

Yeah, you're thinking of Ricky Williams who to this day you can find playing music from his Macbook at 6th St bars while trying to get random people to buy him drinks.

There's seldom a good time to go, but 36 is waaay too young. RIP, Cedric.

Damn! That's way too young to go.

That's really sad to hear, I actually remember him from the 2005 UM-UT Rose Bowl game.

I forgot he was on that Rose Bowl team. Vince Young did all of that to us without Benson?

Benson got hurt in the first half and didn't return

I remember Benson was our main concern going in to that game. 500 missed tackles on Young was a nightmare. But in a one point loss, 499 missed tackles may have been the difference.
I punched my bedroom door after that game.

A guy from my old stomping grounds as a Midland Lee Rebel in Midland, TX. Sorry to hear that.

RIP to him, from a MOJO fan. He was awesome at Lee.

Also a Texan who grew up cheering for UT with one of the first games I remember being the UT vs Michigan Rose Bowl game. RIP Cedric.

How many people on the board are from or live in Midland?
August 18th, 2019 at 6:24 PM ^
Odessa, Midland 20 miles east. The old sayind was... raise your kids in Midland, raise your hell in Odessa. UM has a long reach brother, understandably so!

I'm familiar with the Permian Basin, I lived in Midland from 2013 to 2018.

I'm originally from the DFW area and now in the Austin area but I played soccer back in high school in Midland against El Paso Coronado and against Odessa Permian in Abilene. Went on to go OOS for my undergrad then to Michigan for my masters but glad to be back in the great state of Texas.

I absolutely hate hearing stories like this, especially when it's something that could have been prevented. I hope his family is finding some peace through all of this.

Sad to hear this. Way too young. Remember watching him play at Midland Lee and winning 3 straight Texas High School Championships. He sure made life hard for us at Odessa Permian those years, he was definitely a stud. RIP Mr. Benson!

RIP
We need stricter driver license laws. So many people on the road should not be driving.
You pass a test when you're 16, 20 years later you can be taking 4mg of xanax a day, 100 pounds overweight and a hazard to everyone on the road. RIP to another rider.

What does weight have to do with driving skill? I think it's an advantage to be able to steer with your gut

Horrific news. I remember him being a solid RB at Texas. RIP Mr. Benson.
