WTKA Roundtable 4/26/2019: Don't Eat Basketball Recruits
Things discussed:
- In Soviet Russia Poole Pays You
- Excess possessions created (the Mitch McGary stat)
- German expressions: Shoot the glass
- Poole: No need to burn bridges on your way out, man. Just say you want to go, because when your three point percentage since January is the same as Teske’s you can’t complain about Teske’s three point percentage ruining your spacing.
- Difficult to respond to this because so many awful fans are dogging him.
- Craig tells a Hee Haw joke.
- Crootin the next guys: Pierce, Bones, and John Beilein is in Germany.
- Pearce: visiting UNC now; Tar Heels think he’s a backup at the 3 and 4. Michigan feels like they moved past Notre Dame last weekend.
- Wagner: his team’s recent playoff loss might have hurt his competition level next year.
- Iggy: Door is open a sight crack based on how the draft goes. Lines up with Franz’s timeline.
- Michigan’s got two spots right now—Brooks isn’t leaving if he’s the starter at the two.
- Lester Quinones or Nah'shon "Bones" Hyland? Michigan’s going after guys who they think can play. Michigan thinks Hyland’s a better fit than Quinones, who’s a better player perhaps but also seems to be interested in bag. Hyland is a seriously tough guy.
- NFL Draft: Winovich one of the lowest downside guys of the draft, not just a try-hard. Guessed the Lions would take their tight end, even if Oliver is around.
- We can’t fathom how Daniel Jones is a 1st rounder. Kyler Murray?
- Dwayne Haskins > Murray? Sam is impressed with Haskins’ leadership.

If you wanna go, go, but just say you wanna go. Schieß das glas ab.
Guys who are the guy don't need their teammates to get out of their way or set them up to be the guy. They just do it. Iggy has shown he's got the tools to do it, just not consistently yet.
If JP feels he didn't get that opportunity at Michigan I respectfully disagree, but best of luck to him in finding whatever that place might be.
Right...interested in bag.

How about you advise the fans to shut the hell up and leave Poole alone!!! It is Jordan's life and he gets to make this decision. He is a helluva lot better basketball player than the fans are at assessing his talent...and that is for damn sure. Here, he gets to both reap the benefits and suffer the consequences-it has nothing to do with us.

If you are a public figure, you have to take the criticism as well as the praise. I am not a public figure, so nobody gave a fuck four years ago when I took a pay cut to take a new job. Not so with Jordan. If he doesn't want the public weighing in on every choice he makes he can just exit the game and get a 9 to 5 making the slow dough. Something tells me he won't do that though.

unlike Kardashian’s, Poole does not benefit from being a public figure, and why should he give a s**t to what some random people think, let alone most of them, like me, know nothing about basketball.

His entire future is predicated on being on TV nightly. That by definition makes him a public figure. I assume he wants to make a large sum of money out of this arrangement, and thus derive a significant benefit. And he can care as much as he'd like about what is said about him online by anonymous strangers. That said, asking people to refrain from publicly commenting on his decisions is a ridiculous ask.
His attempt to make money giving people a shout out disagrees with your statement. That is reaping the benefits of his public fame. It is in his best interests to not alienate the Michigan universe or burn bridges. Right now we are the main contributors to his fame. If his career plan works, then he won't need us. But until then, Michigan fans are why he's famous.
the fact that no one has yet paid for his shout out, Michigan fan or not, disagrees with my statement? You can argue that Poole benefited from the education and coaching received at the university, but he owes absolute nothing to random fans.
" Poole does not benefit from being a public figure "
Poole sells $20 shoutouts on cameo...
There seems to be a disagreement between your assertion and reality.
The Poole/Teske comparison is beyond ridiculous. If Poole was getting the open looks Teske always gets, he'd probably be shooting 60% from three.
I just don't get the negativity towards Poole. There's truth to his concerns and I don't think any comments were meant as a criticism of others. His goodbye message was nothing but classy and positive.
Why can't we just appreciate all the immense positives Poole brought to Michigan (including a championship game run and a second Sweet Sixteen) while he was here and wish him well in the future?
He took a shot at Simpson on the way out, that will always color people's opinions of him. Yep, wish him well and all that, but it's going to be as half-hearted as his support of his team-mates seems to be.
I disagree with your entire interpretation of events. He always seemed to be extremely supportive of his teammates - not just half-hearted but over the top supportive, always cheering on the bench supportive.
Here's the only video I could find with specific quotes from Poole on Simpson:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/video/poole-credits-simpsons-d-for-wolverines-victory/
He goes on and on with praise for Simpson - "X is one of the best defenders I've seen in my life... he's out there busting his butt for us..."
But yeah, whatever, people are gonna believe whatever they want to.
