OT: Snip Snip
On Friday, I have a preoperative appointment at the University of Michigan for my vasectomy. Soon I will officially be unable to produce little Brutuses for the rest of my existence. I always figured this would be a liberating experience, but as it turns out, as the date approaches, I am developing many fears and anxieties. Dr. Brutus has been very supportive and has assured me that she won't make me go through with it if I don't want to, but I know it's the right thing for our family. But that doesn't change the fact that destroying my evolutionary drive to pass on my DNA is beginning to feel like a big mistake. I think this might be what inmates on death row feel I the final weeks leading up to their execution.
My question for the board, particularly those who have had the snip: is there life after a vasectomy? Has anyone experienced some sort of buyer's remorse after taking that final step? I want to know that this is the right decision.
I actually know more men who have had the reversal than have kept it, FWIW.
and no that’s not counting Michael Scott
You or your friends are highly unusual in that respect. I’ve seen stats that only about 5% of men even desire a reversal much less have one.
A guy who has been married for 20 years once said, "for the cost of two rubbers a year, it's just not worth it"
I lol'd ..... seriously LOL'd

After 30 years the number goes down further.

my first was 12 years, second was 7 years..... very very un likely that there will be a 3rd, that being said, the current significant other has been around for almost 7 years and i'm glad the beans are snipped, its better than either marriage in the best times.
Well Michael counts as 3 in that census.
You couldn't pay me to reverse this vasectomy. I'll never be up in the middle of the night feeding a baby again. My first child woke up twice every night for almost three years. It stopped the summer before her brother was born in November of 2008. She was born in Nov 2005.

Really can't say it much better than this. I have 3 boys ages 6, 3, and 1 and all of my parenting dreams have been fulfilled plus a whole lot more I never dreamed about. The vasectomy was a no-brainer. The procedure itself was fast and pain-free.

I agree 100%. I have 3 and I have no desire to entertain the thought of one more. I was not uptight at all before the procedure and knew it was the right choice.
PS Is it still okay to say 100% or do I need to go over the top like many do and say 1000% or 110%? Has 100% lost its value?
Reverse a little Brutus or a little Wolve? Hmmm...

Is this a joke that is going over my head? Because this isn't true.

I know zero men who have reversed it out of the small number who have told they've had it done. No complaints from me or any of my friends that I know have had the procedure.

SOOOO GLAD this was brought up as a topic. I've been thinking about getting one as well, now 50 and divorced and back to having a "social life" again and need to be careful.
One question I had was the lack of libido, if that is affected at all...???
I am 43 and it has not affected my libido at all. In fact, it has been beneficial that we no longer have to worry about getting pregnant again.
I had three kids and I have no buyers remorse. It wasn't a bad process at all. A slight lingering irritation for couple days after, but don't lose any sleep over it, you'll be fine bro. Good luck. You can play up the sympathy card for about 2 weeks also.
Sympathy???

I had mine done a little while ago, and in my opinion the shot they give you at the dentist before working on a cavity is worse then the procedure. The recovery is not too bad. I rotated bags of frozen pees or corn, which worked far better than ice. I laid in bed and watched Nexflix and played Playstation for a couple days, and felt fine after a few days. We have four kids, and we are finished, and I can attest it is quite freeing. However, it is VERY important to read the paperwork to note that the effects are not immediate. There are milestones to reach, and you have to give a sample to be cleared. A friend of mine had it done, and they did not wait long enough and was blessed with a surprise of another child.

I rotated bags of frozen pees
I see what you did there.

I have three kids as well. As much as I love them, I think I may have been a flight risk if my wife announced we were going to have a 4th. Totally worth it. Although mine was really sore for about 10 days. I had to wear the jock strap for over a week before the boys could hang loose again...
Actually quite interested in this forum. Now that my wife is pregnant with our second, I have thought about this once the baby comes.
I haven’t resorted to google, but am highly curious about “life” afterwards, particularly sexual activity.
Nothing to worry about in that area. Funny story though, my neighbor had it, and he never went back in to give a sperm sample, and his wife got pregnant 4 years later. Make sure you give a sample a couple months after you are fully healed to make sure it was successful.
Dang. Hopefully he at least got a DNA test on the child?
This happened to a friend of mine as well. The unplanned kid looked exactly like the father, so no DNA test needed.
Had his brother had a vasectomy too?
A buddy of mine was the product of this type of malfunction, only it was like 10 years later. His dad flipped out and nearly divorced his mom over it, certain it was an affair. She ended up having a paternity test which proved it was indeed her husband's child.
Same thing happened to my wife's cousin's husband. Except they got a phone call from the doctor saying, hey, he should go in because it didn't work properly.
She said she knew--she was already pregnant.
So they now have a middle schooler and (because they had their other children very young) two grandkids.
A frozen bag of peas for a day or two and you're good to go. I have three wonderful kids. Getting snipped was one of the best decisions I ever made. It was easy as heck and removed all worry going forward. Let it fly in peace man!
Snipped? There are other methods available.
Ah, the old "watch UofM football 2007-2019 edition"
you forgot that one game in 2006 as well.

Pretty sure OSU 2018 would do the trick.
Can't speak for the entirety of the 'snipped' population...but I had it done about 4 years ago.
To date - no buyers remorse (although was sure we were done growing our family for about 2 years before the peocedure) and no decrease in drive (after the first week or so).
The only thing I will contradict, is that my sympathy card ran out after 3 days or so...not two weeks, so hopefully you get the over on that count.
3 kids and had it done last year. It's no biggie. Nothing to be scared of and totally worth it. Fun fact the evening of the operation my entire family got a stomach bug (except me) so I was scrubbing floors less than 3 hours after.
I feel like Cersei Lannister understands the best option for birth control. Learn from her teachings. Not one Baratheon in all those years. Nicely done! R.R. Matin needs to release a how to book.
I think her secret is "make sure that your husband has an endless supply of whores."
She explains it to Ned I believe. Find that part of the book and share it with the Mrs.
Yeah that'll go well.
Had mine done a couple months ago. I’m supposed to send my sample in next week. No buyers remorse at all. It was an awesome excuse to not move off the couch for a couple days. I had a pretty hot nurse do all the prepping and you would think that sounds awesome, but it wasn’t. The whole thing is awkward as fuck. The doctor showed me the piece of tube he removed. But my wife was fascinated by the whole thing.
My doctor did the same thing. Weird but reassuring?
I concur on the awkwardness. Hot nurse lathering away on the undercarriage while the wife is watching... hoo boy.
March 25th, 2019 at 10:10 PM ^
Lathering? My nurse finished dry what apparently I had not.
From my husband: Why would I have buyer's remorse? It's freedom!
Shouldn't the wives be a little concerned if the guys are proclaiming freedom one too many times???

Hey at least I don't have to worry about a Steve (but not Wendy) jr. walking around.
March 26th, 2019 at 12:29 AM ^
True, true, hopefully Steve Sr. doesn't walk around a lot.
This is late, but it was recommended to have mine the day before March Madness. That way I could spend two days convalescing on the couch watch sports with an ice pack on my twig and berries.
This is my tentative 2020 plan.
Yes, many urologists offer March Madness specials. Definitely look into it.
