Some young guys getting praise: Turner, Haskins, and Gray.

Jeter’s development means a lot to next year’s team. Vincent Gray has received practice praise for a while, but it was also nice to hear about Sammy Faustin. Hopefully these whispers are true. The Christian Turner buzz sure sounds great as well.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
Agreed. Anything on the defensive side of the ball is a big deal.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:36 PM ^
For those of us who don't follow as closely it would be great if we always mentioned what position guys play. Turner is, I think. a running back, and getting good RB play with Higdon gone will be important. Haskins is an LB and Gray is a corner, I believe.
EDIT: I see down below that Haskins is slotted at RB, too. Gotta expect that with Charbonnet in the wings and Evans maybe featured we will be in good shape ultimately at RB.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
Jester is a nose tackle. Vincent Gray is a cornerback. Sammy Faustin is a safety/ possible CB. Christian Turner is a running back, but even the casual fan likely knows that. Haskins moved back to RB after O’maury Samuels transferred.
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
I thought jester was dead?
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
? Jester was reincarnated as a 300 pound African American nose tackle. That is the result of what Sam Webb calls good livin’

Here's hoping he knows what a "hard deck" is ;)

No joy

Thanks much.

Lol if you actually read the article you would have known all of this. The article was literally the raison-d-etre of this post.

He doesn’t have a mouse on his flip-phone, so clicking a link is out of the question.

Umbig11 - I think last time you mentioned pep was when he was interviewing with Maryland. Is he still looking around? Think he’ll move on and do the Jedd discussions have any substance? Thanks for all you contribute to the board
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
What Jedd discussions?
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
Moving back from Beverleeee.
December 23rd, 2018 at 4:19 PM ^
Hills, that is.
swimming pools. Movie stars.
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
There’s a thread on a twitter status of his that people are reading into. Not legitimate staff discussions if that’s what you were understanding
December 23rd, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
I like what I saw from Turner in limited play this year. I could see him being heavily involved in the rotation next year
December 23rd, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
I wonder how Sims and Gemon Green (who were more coveted as recruits than Gray and Faustin) are doing.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
Hey umbig11, heard any rumblings about Jedd Fisch?
December 23rd, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
I'm sorry, but why would Jedd Fisch leave the Rams for Michigan? As much success as they are having I would think his next job would be HC or OC Asst HC of another pro team. I don't know if something came up about him losing his job, but he would be in high demand in the pro's.
December 23rd, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
Sorry, but what is Jedd's job with the Rams?
He's not the OC. He's not the passing game coordinator and not the run game coordinator. He's listed below those guys with the position coaches as a senior offensive analyst. I'm not sure exactly what that is, sounds a lot like our analysts, but should pay better.
Coming back to Michigan as the OC would be a big step up. Coming back as passing game coordinator with Pep's salary would be a big step up.
December 23rd, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
My bad, for some reason I thought he was the OC. Well then, come on down Jedd.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
Great news, especially for those of us concerned with RB depth.
Go Blue!
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
Good to hear that Jeter is making a move, though I'd be cautious in expecting him to be anything more than acceptable next season (see Dwumfour, M.). We are going to need to one of the freshmen (Smith or Hinton) to also make an immediate impact.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
I would expect him to be atleast dwumfour if not slightly better. He was a higher rated recruit (starzzzz) and he's going on his 3rd year in program. He should be legit next season.
December 23rd, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
Jeter was also making noise in his freshman season and was sidelined due to injuries/low weight. If he stays healthy, he can be very good DT
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Mazi Smith is your huckleberry here, he's an EE and has been around the program a lot; he should be ready to fill minutes game 1. Of course by mid season, I bet Hinton is eating some of those minutes too.
December 23rd, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
Mazi is a Nose and Hinton is a tackle/tech should be two deep of Jeter and smith at nose and kemp and dwumfor tackle

If the more meaningless bowl games turn into pre-Spring Games that we all get to see, I'm a little bit OK with that.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
That is an interesting way to look at it. If we have a culture of hard work and taking practice seriously like I believe that we do, this new era of bowl games could lead to a high frequency of wins for us. But of course, we would prefer to be in the bowl games that matter from here on out!
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
I know I am in the minority but players sitting out makes it more interesting for me.
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Yeah, people act like we won't be able to field a team. We'll still have 11 guys on offense and 11 guys on defense.
I'm not one of those guys that thinks that bowl games are meaningless to the point where is does not matter if we win or lose. I've seen too many painful Michigan losses in bowl games. I don't want to lose another bowl game the rest of my life.
So I don't want too many guys to sit out to the point where we are setting up a loss, but getting younger guys in there who really want to be in there is not all bad.
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
I don't think bowl games matter nearly as much as they used to from a win/loss perspective. More importantly we have younger guys getting play time which is more important than anything else.
December 23rd, 2018 at 4:26 PM ^
I'm interested in the argument here, but I have a hard time quite swallowing. It won't help decide if we reach the playoff, obviously, but I expect to be about as depressed as any other game if we lose!
December 23rd, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
We play football for fun. Losing isn't fun.
Not quite as significant as what V.L. said but each game counts one.
December 23rd, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
Go blue
December 23rd, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
I've had enough Michigan bowl game losses for a lifetime. I don't need any more.
Let someone else lose if it doesn't mean anything.
December 24th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
A chance to notch 11 wins is a huge accomplishment for this program, I believe we only have something like eight or nine total 11-win seasons ever. That seems pretty meaningful to me, disappointing it's not the playoffs yeah but not meaningless.
Some bowls are meaningless though, like the ones already played, and for the season we had anything other than the playoff seems meaningless. But I still think the NY6 bowls are meaningful and typically pit two top teams against each other.
December 23rd, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
I think I remember Harbaugh saying exactly that. I think it was in reference to the new redshirt rule.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Sammy Faustin and Daxton Hill at safety for a couple upcoming years. Is that going to be great!
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
Q Johnson would like a word with you.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
Yes sir
December 23rd, 2018 at 8:11 PM ^
I'll eat a lemon if Johnson starts. We have tons of guys in the secondary and if anyone young will break through it's almost surely Dax. I thought on one of the podcasts Brian said Johnson had only played football or safety for a year or 2.
December 23rd, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
The only reason I brought up Johnson was Ger Sauden said something like 'years to come'. Not trying to argue anything, just that I think Johnson will compete for spot sooner than most. Fast. Hits hard.
Great pick up by the staff after has speed that so many have wanted for our safeties. Good shuttle time, etc.
I'll drink a beer if he doesn't make the field in 2020.
December 24th, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
I won't go so far as to say I'll eat a lemon, but yeah I'm with you. I don't see a true freshman (of the non-Dax Hill type) supplanting a two year starter in Metellus.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
OP, thanks for sharing. Personally speaking I think most of the practice rumblings are bunk, and are mostly to muddy the waters for the opponent or satiate the fanbase's demands for updates. I'll be pleasantly surprised if any of these young guys are heavily featured in the bowl game.
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:25 PM ^
Lots of young guys get extra reps in bowl practices. Most of this translates to the following spring vice the bowl game itself. I get what you are saying and agree with your take.
December 24th, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
Is Tarik Black transferring?
December 23rd, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Haskins back with the RBs and maybe the "most gifted". I didn't see that one coming. Good for him.
