Spartan Schadenfruede Snowflake Thread
Perusing the nether regions of the RCMB, my favorite hot takes are:
- Michigan is a pack of dirty, cheap shot artists. Amazing how soon folks forget "60 minutes of Unnecessary Roughness" when the shoe is on the other foot.
- Ohio State is going to take us down a peg at the end of the season. MSU is back to letting OSU fight their battles for them. Did we just travel back in time to 2006?
Have fun.

Little brother is back!
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:53 AM ^
Little brother has always been there....
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:04 AM ^
Meet the new little brother, same as the old little brother.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:05 AM ^
"Little brother" never left. It was never about streaks of success or misery in this rivalry, but about a mindset and approach. When people on this blog were trying to dissuade others from using the term, little did those people know they were trying to give Michigan State credit that their approach to life in general has not earned them even if their football team was surpassing ours at the time.

If they are candid, I think that it's about the 85th-ranked public university versus one of the very best. . . going way, way back. The chip on their shoulder is about the prestige; when they take us down it's about that, too.
I used to feel sorry for them; after the '08 crash they got walloped by budget cuts; the UM had enormous resources to fall back on. In my own field, food ecology and the development of local food systems, they are a leader, and admired.
What is MSU--honestly--without their sports teams? Very little. They're the Alabama of the B1G. Of course they bend the rules to keep it all going.
After Nassar, Perles, Engler, Izzo--a walk-behind by Marco Antonio with helmets and a stupid shit-eating grin--I got nothing but pity left for them.
The women of MSU deserve better.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:00 AM ^
They almost always get to the second round of the NCAA tournament in basketball, except when they run into Middle Tennessee State (who is playing without two starters). So there is that.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:24 AM ^
Why do you have to continue to pile on the most injury riddled basketball program (and football for that matter) in the history of sports?
Seriously though, they do always have a ton of injuries, so much so it has become the norm, not the exception. any idea why? do the train improperly or something?
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:33 AM ^
It could be that they have certain muscles that become rapidly over-developed, leading to the failure of certain support structures like bones and tendons.
I have no idea how that would be the case, though. That would seem unnatural.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:43 AM ^
Well done!!!
I hope it is not true - 18 year-olds shouldn't be in a position to trade future health for current field performance. Institutions that put student athletes in such a position are shameful. I hope UM does not allow that behavior.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:57 AM ^
Considering the doctors they employ(ed)...
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
A ton of injuries?
I'd like to introduce you to our QB room heading into OSU week damn near every year.
Also, they have injuries like any other program. The problem is that they have no depth to afford injuries. We don't have Gary or Black, Solomon has been mostly out this season, but we're rolling out 4-star replacements.
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:47 PM ^
We need to own this...
WE ARE THE BIG BROTHER.
they are the little brother
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:34 AM ^
“I feel dirty saying this, but... hypothetically, if you knew going into the game against OSU that beating them would punch UM’s ticket to Indy, in lost season like this one, wouldn’t you be sure not to win?”
The keys are out of the purse (“Get Out” reference).
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:42 AM ^
That would be a cute hypothetical if Staee had a snowball's chance in that game.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:05 AM ^
Littlest brother comment ever.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:19 AM ^
Dantonio said almost the same response during one of the RichRod years. MSU needed to beat Penn St and have Michigan beat OSU in order to get to the Big 10 championship game (or maybe the Rose Bowl, don't remember the year). A reporter asked Dantonio if it was weird to be in a situation where he had to root for Michigan. He scoffed and said "Go Bucks".
That's why they will always be little brother.
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:07 AM ^
I remember that very well, and was dumbfounded when I first heard it. I thought, "What the hell? He's still pulling for UM to lose, even though their win would benefit his team? What kind of petty, miserable SOB is this guy?"
The subsequent years have answered that question. He's the perfect coach for Inferiority State U.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:10 AM ^
The keys-purse scene in that movie was super intense.
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:39 AM ^
My absolutely favorite line from over there on Saturday... To set the stage, they blame all of this on OC Dave Warner (and very secondarily, on Dantonio for not firing Warner). To wit: "Die in an AIDS fire, Warner." (Admission: I edited it for grammar, naturally).
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:49 AM ^
Didn't see this view posted anywhere else...just loved it. Nice exhibit "A" to the people who claim Harbaugh doesn't connect with his players. Great contrast to Sharty bile...

October 22nd, 2018 at 9:08 AM ^
Could be a great contrast to Meyer too. Somethings going on there...
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:23 AM ^
This should be a video banner
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
Fantastic
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:49 AM ^
Purdue beat OSU by 29
EMU beat Purdue by 1
WMU beat EMU by 3
UM beat WMU by 46
UM only beat MSU by 14
MSU should be 65 point favorites.
edit: This was supposed to be a response to MaizeAndBlueWahoo above.
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:52 AM ^
Transitive property is a thing....we hope!
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:54 AM ^
That would currently make us 79 point favorites against OSU... 76 because we're on the road.
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
I'd be tempted to take the points there.. but screw it! Michigan -76, bet the mortgage!
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:15 AM ^
Yeah but....
Northwestern beat Sparty by 10
Duke beat Northwestern by 14
Virginia beat Duke by 14
Indiana beat Virginia by 4
Ohio State beat Indiana by 23
So OSU should be.....yup, 65 point favorites.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
Fine... Let's average it out, and then give MSU 3 points for being at home.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:21 AM ^
I'm good with it. I'm off to go pawn all my shit and take a second mortgage to put it all on Ohio.
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:56 AM ^
It's nice that there's a full week to fully enjoy it without having to be overly concerned about the next game.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:02 AM ^
I wish there was a better slate of games this weekend though. OSU in a bye, LSU and Bama in a bye (I think both). Decent 3:30 time slot with PSU/Iowa and Florida/Georgia, but nothing in the evening time slot except Notre Dame/Navy. Comung man.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:39 AM ^
Northwestern / Wisconsin kicks off at Noon. That's a key game for B1G West
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^
It is in deed a key game in the West to determine who is finishing second to Purdue.
October 22nd, 2018 at 8:57 AM ^
MSU is about to become a .500 program once again.
Karma is a bitch.
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
Sparty always was a .500 program. Penn State and Michigan just did them the service of turning into tire fires for the better part of decade.
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:55 AM ^
About to be? They literally are right now:
Mark Dantonio is 17-16 in his last 33 games and is 10-12 in Big Ten play in his last 22 league games. He’s 1-2 vs Michigan and 0-2 vs OSU during same time. Program in decline.

SAMgO!!!! funny you mentioned that. after sitting thru 3 hrs of every negative stat they could find about harbaugh scrolled across the bottom of the screen, nice to see another take on what is really happening right now. sparties love their history, as long as they look good, that is.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:02 AM ^
All Sparty ever wanted was our full attention and now they have it.
Be careful what you wish for little brother, for you shall surely get it.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
It's not even like they were unlucky. It was at EL, they hung their hats on rush defense and the weather was VERY optimal for that, and of course the fumble inside the 10 was pure BPONE.
It wasn't a full ref takeover (thank FSM) but Michigan had a bunch of things go against them and still dominated. We don't even need to flip the karma; if Harbaugh gets merely normal luck in this rivalry going forward it's going to get ugly. Harbaugh's "win with cruelty" mantra has yet to show its full wrath against Molester State, and that's going to happen eventually.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:03 AM ^
It's amazing how quickly Spartan fans have reverted to living in the past
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^
Not just "the past", but a strange version of the past that doesn't count before Mork got there, yet does count the time before Harbaugh got here.
What Mork did to RR and Hoke has absolutely nothing to do with what Harbaugh is going to do to Mork going forward. Mork is an incredibly lucky 2-2 against Harbaugh.
Trash coach. Trash team. Trash fans. Trash school.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
They also seem to drop off the first year when MSU lost to Carr.
Reality is Dantonio is 2-3 against Harbaugh and Carr versus 6-1 versus RichRod and Hoke.
My guess is they will be lucky to maintain the 40% win rate Dantonio has achieved against top coaches as long as Harbaugh is around.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:03 AM ^
Just spent an hour reading their thread, lol... They complain a lot... I thought our fan base complained about dumb sh*t but wow, they are something else... Hardly any effort with their insults either... Oh well lil bro gonna get out of place every now and then that is what we are here for...
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:48 AM ^
That's always been the Spartan narrative when it comes to Michigan. When we lose, it's always a complaint about the refs or the weather or some other random excuse, but they've never resorted to crutches, because they're the tougher fanbase. Of course, they lose us and instantly they resort to excuses and complaints.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:23 AM ^
Serious question: Since I've heard it from my MSU friends and again here. What are they cheapshots/dirty play they are referring to? I know Winovich went low on Lewerke once. Was there other stuff I missed?
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:36 AM ^
not sure - I suppose the push out of bounds or the "late" hit on Lewerke - any of the personal fouls would be the logical ones. But that one play where Ruiz had his legs pinned and #96 (Panasiuk?) is clearly trying to injure him after the play is all you need to share to get them to shut up. They do this crap every year and I'm glad we're standing up to it.
https://twitter.com/_MXKEY/status/1054004744476418048/video/1
flashback: note that 1) Gholston piles on 2) then he tried to decapitate Denard 3) Mork vigorously complains about the call. This is their culture...

Scroll down that first link and watch the video with Don Brown. No wonder they only gave up 94 yards. It brought a tear to my eye, it was so beautiful:
