G.O.A.T Plays in Michigan Football History
Happy hump day everyone. Two days from camp and we’re all alive and eagerly waiting for a new season. So life is hopefully good for all of you. What are your top 5 plays in Michigan Football history. Also, I thought it would be cool if people know how to embed to do that so we can have kind of a highlight reel thread.
Criteria is as follows; 1. It happened in your lifetime. 2. We won the game that the play happened during.
Mine are -
1. Roundtree catch against ND
2. “TD Mannigham” to beat Psu
3. “Grbac to fire for it, he went for it all”!!!
4. Brabbs FG to beat Washington
5. Tie Woodson and Howard punt returns against Osu
There have been so many great ones that I have forgotten or were just outside my top 5, I would love to see everyone else Top 5 GOAT plays and in video form if possible.
I haven’t been able to figure out how to embed or I would put the videos of my top 5 on here. I really miss the hype videos that showed some of these plays... I guess I have blocked out a lot of the last 10 years since I only had one in there.

Additional... it does not need to be in the Big House, road games count as well as long as you follow the criteria. Sorry I forgot and I can’t edit.

Man... that kick by Remy to beat ND was a favorite of mine. My buddy had a tv in his van and somehow we were able to get that game on it. I think that was 94. Great memories.

One of the old little MDen's outside the big house (the one closest to Crisler) for years had an amazing framed photo of the kick going up, as seen from behind Remy, right by the front door as you walked in.
I would give anything to get that photo. I haven't seen it since they built the new MDen and concession stands along the concourse.

1979 homecoming game vs. Indiana:
Anthony Carter from John Wangler to beat Indiana as time expired.
Bob Ufer goes ballistic with ridiculously awesome quotes and literal tears upon tears of joy.
Someone really sharp with a few more minutes on their hand is going to embed this audio hopefully.

My Grandfather and Father were at this game and stayed the entire time. It was a huge point of pride for them that they stuck it out and saw that play. I was practically raised to believe it was among the greatest plays in football history.

I really have trouble including field goals in the mix....so here are my Top 5.
1. Woodson's interception against MSU. Still have never seen anything like that.
2. AC's TD against Indiana.
3. Desmond's diving catch against ND
4. Desmond's and Charles' punt returns against OSU.
5. It wasn't a single play, but Timmy B's performance against OSU in '95 was an all-timer.

It was my first game, so the Dreisbach to Hayes TD to win the Virginia game in '95 will always have a special place in my heart.

That fourth quarter was fantastic, of course, although one of the more vivid memories for me from that game was the searing heat of that late summer heat wave we were experiencing in SE Michigan at the time.
Between the heat and the way the game was going, 12-year-old me was not impressed with the experience for the first three quarters. That fourth quarter though cemented my fandom for life...
Worst weather for a game ever. Absolutely miserable. Even the 5-0 Purdue game, which I think was later that same season, was better.

Anthony Carter TD as time expires to beat Indiana. Indiana, yeah, but awesome play the way he split two DBs and then ran away from the other guy.

Here are my top five that hadn't been mentioned as of when I started this post:
1) Andre Weathers INT return vs. OSU in '97 (basically put the game away)
2) Kenny Demens game-winning tackle vs. Northwestern in OT
3) Wheatley 88-yard TD run in Rose Bowl
4) The Dadrion Taylor hit (yes, I know it's controversial)
5) Denard's first play

Well, what is your criteria for greatest ever plays, last-second wins, deciding plays, winning TDs? I mean AC's catch and run against Indiana on fourth down with seconds left ought to be No 1. Wangler to Carter in my book is the all-time winner in that regard. And for crying out loud, you got the qb's son on our team right now.
You put the Roundtree catch as No. 1,but that play as exciting and dramatic as it was, wasn't going to impact Michigan's chance to keep playing and still win that game if the pass wasn't caught, whereas Carter's catch was Michigan's last second prayer for victory.

I hear ya, it was the atmosphere that hoisted it up. Unreal atmosphere man.

Obvious: Howard and Woodson PR's vs. OSU, The Catch
Good plays that haven't been mentioned: Deveon Smith TD run vs. BYU, Demetrius Brown to Kolesar vs. OSU, Forcier TD run vs. ND, Denard to Gallon vs. ND to set up game winner

I was there for Manningham against Penn State but on the wrong side of the stadium. I couldn't see the ball and I had to watch the crowd's reaction to know whether we had won or not.

Tbh my personal favorite was donetonio going for two when there was no reason to and jabrill ran it back right next to their sideline. I could see on the broadcast d’antoni putting his head down as jabrill ran by. So satisfying

John Anderson strips Rod Gerald first and goal - '77 OSU game

My favorite - my freshman year and the weather was awful. It was sleeting during the game. My parents came to go to the game and take me out to dinner. They were so cold after the game my dad gave me $20 for dinner and told me "We're out of here." I went back to Bursley and sat in the shower for about an hour.
Desmond's PR return is G.O.A.T. His Heisman pose was on a CFB game for goodness sake. It is the one play in Michigan history that will forever be part of the highlight reels.
IMO it is one of the most iconic plays in college football history. I was 12 years old, and Desmond was my first sports hero, even before this game. My parents drove me to Ann Arbor from Chicago to see that game, and when Desmond returned that punt and did that pose, it felt like a religious experience.
From an overall game perspective, it's hard to beat Ron Johnson's 347 yards against Wisconsin in 1968 setting a NCAA record at the time. Incidentally, Steve Owens was recognized at the back of the week by the AP.
