[Confirmed:] Henry Poggi an official visitor to Bama this weekend
According to 247 & Rivals (paywalled). Of course, the story for the last few weeks has been Poggi visiting Bama - but only to see his friend in Tuscaloosa. Now it appears this will be an official visit and Nick Saban is expecting him. Not good, IMO.
My personal opinion, Poggi and his dad were using the "visiting a friend" angle to run interference with the actual visit. If he was really visiting his friend, why couldn't it just wait until afer NSD?
...commence panic.
Mod edit: Changed title since it seems this doesn't come from Poggi or anyone who can speak for him. JGB.
Edit two: Changed the title again since it sounds like the visit was confirmed.

I've seen recruits say this before, and then they've picked the team that everyone expected them to pick. I wouldn't read too much into it.

The panic was just a bit unjustified and it all worked out just fine. Relax, enjoy the weekend. The program is in good hands.

I, for one, want to have a crappy Friday evening.

Totally different. Beaver wasn't a universally-regarded top prosepect and that wasn't two weeks before signing day. That meltdown had as much to do with where he went than the fact that he left.
Poggi is currently our highest rated recruit and we won't be able to replace him with anyone. This would be a much bigger deal.

No, Denard was pretty highly rated. It was Beaver that wasn't highly rated, which is why it was a bad comparison.

I hope he's just taking the trip to see Bama and meet the coach. But I think he will still sign with us. But again that is his own decission to make.

That's what happen when you try and leave your region to recruit. these schools are indirectly paying these kids to go to their schools. Gilman probably just recieved some new weights and workout gear from an alabama alum. Hell, remember alabama paid for Dee hart's high school to get new turf laid down so they can practice for the bowl game against MSU. So he is right , until the big ten starts recruiting like the SEC we are done. Also, Brady Hoke really needs to stop takingso many early committs. It's time to save some of these kids officials until after the season so when you have recruits wanting to go elsewhere, you still have some officials in your back pocket.
January 25th, 2013 at 7:23 PM ^
Please explain your last point, because I don't get it. Why does taking early commits preclude us from getting officials late in the year?
January 25th, 2013 at 7:37 PM ^
Accepting kids commitments early on in the recruiting process opens Michigan up to the "My spot is saved for Michigan now I will go look elsewhere" theme. This has obviously killed us in recruiting.
/s
Oh wait, Kyle Bosch, Jake Butt, Taco Charlton and LTT all commited in February...are solid 4 star recruits...and ended up signing their letter of intent and enrolled early.
I think landing four 4 stars super early and keeping them all they way until they signed just disproved his point.

Because we can not make that last impression with the kid. When they take an official during the season, they get to see game experience but its still 3 months left before they can sign their LOI. Usually, it's the last impression on these recruits that leads to a decision, hence Michigan losing all these recruiting battles late in the process.

Wow not a great thread. I had to do my own research for LINKS! and what is the site with the most information on Poggis visit.......Mgoblog...
Yes people in paywalled threads were talking about it, and 247 "confirmed" the January 18th visit, but common.
This may or may not be true, but very weak. It would be like me saying that now is the best time to buy a house because people on Mgoblog were talking about houses in Michigan a couple days ago.

I guess opinions don't count on here if it's not being pro Michigan.

OP is probably just mad because his thread didn't pan out.
His post is bad and he should feel bad.

A: A really good high school football player who has done nothing at the college level, AND that's all he is right now (just like every other recruit).
Don't lose sleep over him. Don't freak out. Don't go ape shit over what his dad is saying on twitter. If he wants to be at Bama, more power to him. If he wants to be at Michigan, he's more than welcome (if the coaches still want him).

missing out on Green and losing Pogi in the same weekend would be disappointing. However, Deveon and Maurice both have impressive senior videos. The two most underrated players in our class in my opinion.
