OT: Dion Sims to the NFL
ESPN analyst Joe Schad has reported that Dion Sims has declared for the NFL Draft. Kind of surprising considering the way his season has gone. Even more susprising is he is the # 4 rated TE by ESPN.
Michigan State tight end Dion Sims will enter the NFL draft, according to a source

If Bell goes in addition they will have a very hard time on offense next year.

Maybe they will also declare early for the NFL draft...just like Sims is doing

If Bell leaves, and it seems like he probably will, that offense will be putrid next year. They were a ranked around 109 this year and now they're losing their top two offensive threats. Rough.

But OTOH, their whole offense was centered around Bell and the threat he posed to keep defenses honest. If their ground game doesn't offer that kind of threat next year, their passing game is going to have to take a big leap forward for the offense to improve.

...next years losses in skill players may equal this years offensive line injuries. Still, I think we all agree that we won't be seeing Pac12 offensive numbers out of Sparty.

True, but what Sims did is very different from what Clark did.

Good. That guy was tough to cover in the open field.

What other RBs do they have? Nick Hill? The fact that Bell was only one to take meaningful snaps at RB should worry you if you're an MSU fan.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:31 PM ^
Assuming Bell goes pro, Nick Hill will be MSU's leading returning rusher, with 48 yards on 21 carries.

Nick hill is the only other RB that actually got snaps that i saw and if he is the only returner that doesn't bode well.. He is MSU's V. Smith, yet not nearly as versatile. That freshman "kings" or w/e was supposed to have incredible speed, but couldn't crack any meaningful playing time in a bad offense

Is Kings a RB? I thought he was supposed to be the new Keyshawn Martin

Kings is a WR.

This is the anti-Fred Jackson quote of the year. I do also realize that the year is technically only a few days old.

I dont think Nick Hill will ever start for MSU. Most think Nick Tompkins is the guy.

According to this article Bell is meeting with NFL agents and leaving. He can't really help his draft stock much, and with Spartans losing a couple starting interior linemen and looking at another rough year, why would he stay?
NFL running backs are playing on borrowed time. Take the extra year.
Gholston filed paperwork as well, but he regressed this year so I'm not sure he'll get any kind of response he would like.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:50 PM ^
I bet Gholston will leave anyway. He strikes me as a guy looking to cash in. He made just enough plays this season to warrant getting drafted somewhere.

7-6 season with their "best team in years".. They're already there.

Making fun of State's record doesn't seem right considering we finished 8-5 and lost to all of our rivals.
January 2nd, 2013 at 9:42 PM ^
and I would still make fun of them. They cant help it, they were born that way.
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:48 AM ^
The whole "MSU isn't a rival" bit is lame. You can argue about them being the #2 or #3 rivalry game, OK, but to say it isn't a rivalry is absurd. Ask the players on the team how they felt about getting Paul Bunyan back.
And yeah, we're entitled to poke fun at them, because we won the game this year - so we have bragging rights.
January 3rd, 2013 at 9:10 AM ^
We lost to the AP's #1, #2, and #3 teams, plus a fourth top-10 team. And 3 of the 4 losses were by 5 or 6 points, i.e., came down to the last minute. So, I have no problem making fun of Sparty's miserable record, given that they thought they'd contend for the Leaders er Legends er Lewan Division championship and ended up battling Minnesota for a bowl game.
