OT: Cabrera Triple Crown watch
Miguel Cabrera is officially in the lineup for tonight's game against KC:
Looks like the start time is 8:10:

Hopeful signs: Cabrera is at .331, Trout seven points back. Hamilton needs two homers to tie Cabrera. Both players will have wrapped up their games before the Tigers commence play, so we will know where we stand.
Do your commenting, hopefully celebrating, here. Updates, shifting percentages and tallies all appreciated, since I will be wrapped up with an eight-year-old who likes to go to bed at midnight, only looking in from time to time.

the end of the sixth without Hamilton homering:

Unless the Rangers go on a big run or it goes into extras, Hamilton will only get one more AB, and it will likely be in the 8th. Cabby is looking good in the HR department.

Hamilton needs one homer to tie Cabrera
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
Right, but it's still the triple crown if he ties.

The Angels will not have wrapped up their game before the Tigers start - it will be about an hour and a half in at that point.

Absolutely, I was just commenting on the OP's assertion that the Angels game would be over before the Tigers game starts.

Here's my strategy if I'm a Seattle pitcher pitching to Trout: throw him nothing but garbage. To him, a walk is almost as bad as an out, considering his team is out of contention and all he has to play for is the batting title. So Trout is gonna swing at everything. He needs 5 hits, and every at bat is crucial. Really hard to go 5 for 5 with a walk, unless the game goes into extras.
So he's going to swing at every pitch, certainly every pitch once he has a couple balls. Throw him nothing but trash, and he'll be the easiest out of the year.

Yeah, I'm saying worst case scenario, but that's what Trout needs to plan for, because any other way and he's already dead in the water. If Cabby goes 0-3 and Trout goes 5-5 or 5-6, Trout takes it.
Now, if Trout is 2-2 or 3-3 at some point, I say let Cabby sit.

That could be. The otherside of it is if Trout has an out or two before our game starts, meaning it's already in the books, Leyland might just let him play.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:18 PM ^
I will be shocked if Cabrera doesn't hit a home run in his one AB tonight
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:06 PM ^
He's likely to get only one more AB.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:20 PM ^
Don't forget about Encarnacion in Toronto. He's 2 bombs behind Miggy.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
Yeah, but he'd need three homers to deny him the triple crown, and I doubt that happens.

Depends on how sick. Terminal? Then yeah.
October 3rd, 2012 at 7:05 PM ^
stuff like that.

If Encarnacion hits 3 HRs today, he will be the biggest dick of all time for ruining the fun for so many people.
October 3rd, 2012 at 7:11 PM ^
Encarnacion isn't in the lineup tonight.
Hypothetically Dunn could get 4 and Dunn/the White Sox are just big enough dicks to actually actively try to do that for the sole purpose of denying Miggy.

Dunn is not in the lineup either tonight.

Another K for Hamilton! This one's all but done.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
Three K's today
One threat down. One to go.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:42 PM ^
If Texas is going to come back, Hamilton might have to come to the plate twice. It's 12-5 A's now.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:43 PM ^
Rangers are getting shellacked. The Hamilton threat is pretty much over.
And with Trout needing a 6 for 6 night the Tigers really should just sit Cabrera. Think of it this way, if Miggy get hurt tonight and has to miss playoff time then we'll never hear the end of how stupid it was to play him just because of some macho BS.

He should get one celebratory at bat. Pinch run him if he gets on base.

Trout hit by pitch! Incredible!!!!
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:48 PM ^
Scandalous!
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:54 PM ^
It's hilarious - that's actually really bad for him. His only shot is to get 5 hits tonight, and it will be a lot harder to do that now, since it will take 6 plate appearances which he likely won't get. I'll crack up if he goes 4-4 now.

Holy shit! Triple Crown talk aside for a moment...but the A's are going to win the West. Damn!
Would love it if the O's could put the Yanks in the wild card too. A Yanks-Ranger one game playoff, who would have seen that happening.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:46 PM ^
I want the Yanks to win because then the Tigers play the As in the first round and I can head up to check out a game!

HELL YES!
October 3rd, 2012 at 7:25 PM ^
Trout 0-1 + a HBP thru 3. Cabrera does not need to play, he wins if he sits. (Probably wins if he does no worse than 0 for 2.)
October 3rd, 2012 at 7:29 PM ^
He can go 0-3 and win, even if Trout gets 4 more hits.
October 3rd, 2012 at 7:25 PM ^
Trout grounds out to first... believe he is elimianted from contention.

I think JV is one of the best pitchers ever, but David Price probably deserves it this year.
October 3rd, 2012 at 9:40 PM ^
No way.
Weaver was never in the discussion to begin with.
Price is having a very good year, but no pitcher really has an argument for beating out JV.
It'll probably go to Price though due to having an insignificant advantage in ERA and he's got 20 wins to JVs 17.
