Scouting Report: Devon Allen
I wrote up a scouting report on Phoenix (AZ) Brophy Prep wide receiver Devon Allen. Most of us have seen the reports on his track speed. He can definitely scoot. He's not very shifty, but with a couple big leapers (who aren't extremely fast) in Jaron Dukes and Csont'e York, Allen would be a good complement to open up some underneath routes and stretch the defense.
to take visits?
He would take an official to Michigan. Believe we are up there for him (top 3 or 5 I would guess based only on premium info via the interwebs). Believe we also might not have to worry about Devon Allen in a few months, either.
You've got a good point that we already have two tall possesion-type receivers committed to this class and that Devon Allen would add a speed dimension to our passing game. But I think Treadwell is a much better prospect. I know ratings don't mean bupkis but Treadwell is considered an elite, top ten receiver by almost all of the services.
The only way I see us taking Allen is if we whiff on Treadwell (make my head asplode) or if the coaches decide to take 4 wr in this class. I hope neither of these things happen.
The Rivals mods suggested that the coaches would take a fourth wideout if it was the right guy. I think they would take Treadwell if Allen was already on board, because Treadwell is a pretty elite talent. If the situation were reversed, I'd have more doubts.
Michigan doesn't have a great deal of depth at WR and there are some mediocre upperclassmen like Jackson and Dileo that won't necessarily warrant a lot of playing time. Gallon is a decent player, but I think he should be a #3 guy, not a #2. Since we're losing one guy this year and three guys next year, I could see us taking four this year and redshirting a couple.
I think that he's a silent commit because someone on wolverine 247 said that he saw the coaches in Arizona and they said that 3 WRs are commited.
If you are talking about Allen being a silent commit, you are more than likely incorrect. He hasn't even visited. I think Allen is a long shot.
If anyone is a silent commit at wide receiver, it's almost certainly Treadwell.
