Will Campbell arrested. For sliding over the hood of a car.
http://www.annarbor.com/news/crime/u-m-defensive-tackle-william-campbel…
Felony and misdemeanor vandalism. Panic? Yeah, panic.
EDIT: He was only arraigned based on an April 7th incident. So, if the coaches know about it and allowed him to go to SEAL training, it might not be complete DOOM. Nevertheless, remain braced for panic. Just remember: in case of emergency, your recruiting seatbelt can be used as a safety device.
EDIT II: They've updated the story. It appears that he was arrested for sliding on the hood of a car which damaged the hood of the car because Will Campbell is a giant human being. So, to summarize: 1) Probably not a big deal. 2) Ann Arbor police and prosecutors suck, and 3) nothing good ever happens after midnight.
*sigh*
Tremendously disappointed with this news. I thought Will Campbell was well on his way to becoming a productive member of this defense. Hopefully he can learn from this and move on.
the SEAL training!
training last week. Either the coaches knew nothing about it or they don't think this amounts to much.
Or they felt that BWC needed the training and would benefit more by going.
Just when I was starting to believe a bit. Let's hope that it's some sort of misunderstanding and that the charges are dropped quickly!
All the talk this off-season is how he has taken the next step. If we lose him - our DL is in serious trouble.
Happened April 7.
He has made SO much progress... this is depressing for him. I think in the past couple of months he has changed a ton. I hope, if he's not guilty or there's some extenuating circumstances, it all works out.
Well, he was drunk. I've successfully used that excuse quite a few times.
Look, kids drink in university...slide on cars...slide on my car, slide on your car...
Things could have been far worse...it's not like he was Poking Smot in Al
Guh.
No pressure, Ondre Pipkins, none at all.
I don't know, if our NT is agile enough to (almost) slide across the hood of a car, drunk, in the middle of the night, I think this bodes well for his pass rushing ability. This suggests he'll be a hood smashing machine beast on the field this fall.
Damn it BWC... I'm not a lawyer, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but a felony charge seems kinda serious.
tattoos too.
Defense lawyer says misdemeanor at worst... that's still a likely suspension.
Guh, back just in time for Air Force.
I bet Brady Hoke laughed at Will when he heard about this. Honestly, it's hard to categorize what Campbell did as "malicious." I'm sure he didn't mean to damage the car, he was just acting like a drunk idiot, as we all do. If I was the prosecutor, I'd want Big Will to pay back the money of any damage he did to the vehicle, and then dismiss the case or find the tiniest misdemeanor I can find. Maybe even let him keep it off his record. I know felony SOUNDS like a big deal, but in this instance, it really isn't.
It should be noted that I made my comment before it came out that Will's destruction happened in the most comical way possible.
Being devil's advocate doesnt:
"I know felony SOUNDS likea big deal, but in this instance, it really isn't"
Isn't that what we accuse MSU, Ohio, and ND fans of saying whenever their kids get into legal trouble? Not good for our program. If a Sparty fan said that about one of their kids just imagine the uproar here.
There's a big difference between drunkenly trying to dukes of hazard a car and assaulting a cop or threatening him (Thanks, Notre Dame). If you remember, when the news came out about Stonum, a lot of fans were calling for his suspension, if the rumors were true.
I can't say I disagree with you, but the "felony doesn't really sound bad" comment really put me off. That's the type of things we will quote MSU forums and laugh about.
Murder is a felony... and so is "seducing and debauching an unmarried woman."
Felony is a broad, broad category. None are "good," but some are way less bad than others.
THAT guy.
After reading the article I would say I am worried, but nowhere near a panic. As mentioned above, his inclusion in the leadership/SEAL trip might indicate the ultimate seriousness of the situation.
Depending on the threatened use, that log would either be a good motivator, or a really, really good motivator.
We have our own logs, thank you very much.
Let's hope Ondre is working his ass off during the summer
Stupid.
That Bama offensive line isn't looking any easier to defend against....
I can haz panic? I was soooo hoping he turned in a good senior season...man...I will trust the coaches to do what is right...regardless of how it may impact the team, should it be necessary.
When you're the God of Thunder, you're gonna break some shizz. It comes with the job. Next they'll want to bust Poseidon for flood damage.
(Kidding aside, I really hope this amounts to nothing for BWC's sake!)
Probably not as serious an incident as it sounds, but still, DON'T DO STUPID THINGS, WILL!
just got downright mushy.
thats Bama. Very unlikely we hold up against Bama's Oline without him. I hope he works out for himself. Lets not throw him under the bus yet. Let it play out in court first.
The fact that he hasn't been kicked off the team is good news. But that being said, this news is very alarming and dissappointing heading into a year with such high expectations. We've been rooting for BWC to live up to his potential for years.
And this crap always happens at the position we're the thinnest at. Ef Murphy.
Remember, we're not that train track bridge guy formerly from that school down south. We are MICHIGAN furgodsakes. Hoke et al will do the right thing.
"No man, no coach is bigger than the team! The team. The team. THE TEAM!"
Your right, I will root for the Michigan team, no matter who is starting in the middle of our defense for the Bama game.
I would say, "Let's all stay calm until the facts come out," but who am I kidding? Let's all over-react.
BWC has never been, nor has he any future plans to be--
an Iowa running back.
doesn't mean it happened. Also, don't get too wrapped up in the "felony" aspect of it. If he, for example, keyed a car, and did more than $1000 damage (which is easy to do with a paint job, one blemish means repainting entire panels, then the panels may not match, so the whole side needs resprayed, then the hood doesn't blend, etc., etc., next thing you know its a $2500 paint job). Keying a car is stupid and the act of a moron, but it is also nowhere near as bad as having a key (of coke) in your car.
Innocent until proven guilty. Often times larger charges are applied at first for various reasosns, even if the prosecutors know there is no way they will stick. Felony charges sound good in the headline. I ask anyone whose reaction is to freak out to take a deep breath first, please.
I'm sure the Coaches will have a discussion with, and some lessons for young Mr. Campbell, guilty or innocent. Hopefully, he learns to either not do stupid things, or at the very least not be present when other people are doing stupid things. If he is required to miss any time, I hope he reflects upon how his mistakes have let his teammates down.
I'm just a fan, doesn't matter if my favored team may suffer from the consequences, teaching this young man a lesson and helping him grow up is more important than winning a football game.
so please post it again so nobody misses it.
Oh I see you already did...okay thanks man.
I think the main distinction you are going for is that keying a car is an intentional and deliberate act. Campbell's act was reckless, but not intentional.

You'd think he'd be pretty difficult to identify.
My birthday is June 14th (the date of his next court appearance) and all I want is dropped charges! After reading the article and judging the tone of his lawyer it doesn't seem very serious. This could be something that only requires some stadium steps in the end.
