OT: official cubs fan support thread
and GO Chi- Sox who have just owned their northern brother of late.
I thought Professor X was supposed to have astounding mental powers?
Even if they do they'll blow it like they have the last 100+ years. As a Marlins fan, I'd like to sincerely thank you for Steve Bartman. He helped us maintain our status as the only team to have never lost a playoff series.
In April 2008, Moisés Alou was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, "You know what the funny thing is? I wouldn't have caught it, anyway."
Thank Alex Gonzalez for booting an easy double play ball that would have ended the inning with the Cubs still up by 2.
The awkward moment when Professor X believes Ron Santo still plays baseball.
You called the Tigers a disgrace less than two hours ago. If the Tigers are a disgrace, what does that make the Cubs?
I simply do not understand any sentence that begins "The Cubs will win a World Series before..." that does end with a reference to (a) a geologic era or (b) animals flying which do not currently fly.
Can't wait to head to Wrigley in the middle of June for that three game set against the Tigers. Haven't been able to see them play each other for three years, and that was a very disappointing sweep. See yall in the bleachers.
as a brewers fan I'm going to politely request that the cubs keep losing. It's all we have left up here; I mean we lost a series to the twins fergodsakes
funny the Cubs best player is still stranded in Triple- A, so it is gonna be hard to win with him not even on the team but what do I know?
The Cubs are the worst team in baseball.
Aren't you guys still paying Alfonso Soriano $20mil a year to do whatever he does besides be good at baseball?
LOL I found this gem from The Onion.Onion SportsDome
...someone has apparently done some sort of study and made this handy Venn Diagram.
Wearing my world series champions shirt right now
May God help us all if the Cubs should stumble upon a title. They are the ultimate Murphy's Law franchise. Why do people root for them? Is it really that much more fun to get drunk at Wrigley than other stadiums?
Either this is dripping in sarcasm or a misguided anti-jinx which ultimately won't matter in the long run.
I'm a Cubs fan (born on the day they clinched the pennant in '84) and really can't remember a worse Cubs team. Our clean-up hitter had 64 total MLB at-bats before the season. We've already gone through two closers. Alfonso Soriano is making $100 million dollars this year (figure not accurate) and has an OPS of approximately .200 (figure not accurate). Among position players with 100 ABs, here are where the Cubs rank in WAR relative to their postions...
C-Soto (2nd to last)
1B-Bryan LaHair (4th)
2B-Darwin Barney (14th)
SS-Starlin Castro (7th)
3B-Ian Stewart (25th)
OF-Alfonso Soriano (33rd) / Tony Campana (46th) / David DeJesus (61st)
LaHair and Castro are their only two guys who could be considered "good" and only Castro is an actual building block. I'm shocked Soriano is judged to be the 33rd best outfielder in the major leagues. They have 3 good, not great starting pitchers and bums after that. Their bullpen guys might as well just come out with a biohazard patch on their jerseys.
It is going to be a long, hard road back to anything resembling contention.
Cubs fans are the MLB's equivalent of Notre Dame fans, and dare I say they are possibly even worse. No matter how obvious it is to everyone else that it's not going to happen, they naively believe it always their year. Wrigley is filled with the most delusional, oblivious people and they give any other pro sports team a run for their money when it comes to the most obnoxious/ignorant fan base.
Great place to catch a game - Wrigley (plus getting drunk at the Cubby Bear beforehand) made me a Cubs fan in one experience [behind the Tigs predictably].
The Cubs were my second favorite team growing up. I've actually been to Wrigley more times than I've been to CoPa and Tiger Stadium. My opinion on the Cubs is formulated upon first hand experience. As beautiful, historic and great of a stadium as it is, way too many self-pitying morons, who pretend they care about what's happening in the boxscore and complain about that which they are hopelessly uneducated on, litter the seats.
They were my 2nd team, but the Wrigley experience is the best.
And isn't it somewhat the definition of a fan(atic) that one continues to cheer for the team and hope that they'll eventually win it all, in spite of evidence to the contrary?
Because while there are many knowledgeable, tolerable Cub fans, there are many more annoying pieces of crap who pretend to love the Cubs because it's a fashion statement, and because if they root for a losing team then they must be a better fan than you. They take more pleaure out of other teams losing than their own team winning. There are many Cubs fans who couldn't tell you the first name of the player on the back of their jersey t-shirt. Also, many Cubs fans went to/root for Notre Dame (aka Bartman).
Need any more reasons?
It pretty simple people...we, uofm fans, were going crazy tryin to fix our team from a far during 2008-2010 campaigns. It was like you saw some hope and potential there, but the results would come no matter what. Now go through that for 100+ years, and worse be outs away from the WS or a title. Moreover, be not even close to being competent or competitive because of massively dumb decisions by people pulling the strings.
you guys think a goat yes a goat has caused all the losing. Now you may not, but do not tell me at least 75% of your fanbasr over 16 years old does not.
At least for Notre Dame fans, their team were nationally relevant during some of our lifetimes. The last time the Cubs amounted to anything, the Hebrews were still busy building the pyramids.
ie the Knowledge of Theo Epstein
Did you mean Soriano? Who calls him Santo? Sori is the closet nickname he has to Santo.
This is why I hate being a cubs fan sometimes. This was probably a simple mistake, but it makes us out to be flaming idiots.
And just for those making the "every cubs fan is a delusional idiot" remarks, that is because the ones you talk to have no clue about the game of baseball and what it takes to win and win consistently. That sums up the mentailty of about 80-90% of fans of any team. I have been frustrated for years with the cubs and the organization as a whole. It reminds me of people trying to sell this nebulous "American dream". "next year", well there is no tomorrow in sports and they/us will suffer for awhile until a lot of changes happen. It will take more than talk. The team has massive holes on the MLB roster and thin talent in the minors, most especially MLB ready or developmental arms. We are in bad shape and haven't really hit rock bottom yet, which will come a shock to some.
I'm guessing he meant Castro and he's just a moron.
With Professor X there are plenty of reasons to be a jerk.
