It's rather unfortunate that someone, by rule, must win this contest, but I suppose that, if I had to choose, I would want Ohio to lose more. Yesterday still stings. The question tears me up inside because I want State to choke again too for the entertainment value.
97% of me doesnt care. 3% believes it makes UM look better if Ohio wins. I will never root for either of them though (except when we win a championship for it!)
This is exactly how I feel. Don't really care but I guess since we played Ohio three times/lost to them most recently I'd rather they look good if forced to pick a side.
It might be better for us if Ohio wins. If they look like crap today, then we by extension look like crap for getting blown out by them. (Of course, it's also possible that our seeding has been set already and it doesn't matter.)
BTW, does this website not observe daylight savings time?
68-56 type game. Man, they are looking good. Ohio is back from out of their slump and is also a Final Four caliber team, but Sparty right now has it goin' on. I'll take option three and the meteor. Silver Lining...Our guys get a nice day to rest and prepare for the real tourney.
I don't know if Sparty is any hotter right now than Ohio. It was just a week ago that Sparty lost twice in a row and Ohio has just dismantled two tournament teams.
They're both very good teams. I guess my eye sees Sparty as more of a contender, maybe a little more well-rounded, if that makes any sense. They both could set a path on fire to the Elite 8 and beyond; they have the "teams" capable of doing so.
Sullinger is a punk.
What has he done or said that would make you say something like that?
Show some class.
Have you ever watched him play basketball? He constantly whines to the refs and the reason I said it was his purposely bumping into half the MSU team after getting fouled. This being an open thread I assumed other posters would also be watching the game.
Why is punk such a "classless" accusation? Your post is pretty indignant for a seemingly harmless word. Did a guy with a mohawk knock the ice cream out of your hand when you were a kid?
What did I say to make you think I was fired up? Any exclamation points? Any caps? Bold?
Now read your rant and tell me who needs to settle down.
I think Draymond makes Sullinger look content with officiating. Green has never liked a call in the history of basketball.
He'd better learn real quick to change that habit because Crawford and co. aint having that shit at the next level.
Seems that Payne only plays well against OSU. Every other time I've watched MSU, he does pretty much nothing.
gotten rid of the 3 second rule? I never see it called anymore.
On other topics, the Deadspin article quoted on this site recently is incorrect; it is now allowable (likely for ecology reasons) for Michigan (or Cincinnati or MSU) to be put in the Columbus regional. Lunardi has all 3 of those nearby teams coming to town. Could be interesting.
O-H
/Cries in shower for the rest of the day
How come nobody on OSU knows how to deal with a double team? They are atrocious so far.
the "pumpkin" phase.
I hate both of these teams, but at least it will be a hell of a game.
Completely offtopic but I am SO hoping for a Friday/Sunday game placement when they announce the brackets. I am taking the avitar to NYC on Thursday for the opening of "Death of a Salesman" and we're flying back Saturday night. So if we get placed in the Thursday/Saturday game set I'm f*cked.
Not to spoil it for you, but the guy dies at the end. He also has a kid named Biff, which is kind of funny. That is about the extent of the highlights.
If there is a scheduling conflict (or not), you should just give your plane/show tickets to one of her girlfriends. The Mrs. looks awesome in front of her friend because her man makes magic shit happen, the friend will probably be willing to bang you at a later date if that should ever become desirable (and even if it doesn't interest you, this can be used as subtle leverage to make your girl act right at all times), and you get to see the game. Throw in a few bucks for shopping and you look like a total G but still don't miss the game.
Then you can spend the weekend drinking in your underwear in front of the TV, or roll out to Vegas and do the same thing in public. Either way the wife is happy and you are still livin' the dream.
I think this might have been discussed elsewhere but what are the chances we play in Columbus? I'd love to go if it was that close.
There was an article posted here suggesting that it wouldn't happen because the NCAA would consider it a "home-crowd disadvantage" for us.
from the potential host paper with quotes from the Selection Committee:
• Teams are sent to sites as close to home as possible to alleviate travel.
• The first three teams selected from the same conference must be placed in different regions.
...
• The committee tries to keep a region’s top four seeds from having to face an opponent with a home-crowd advantage.
and
Columbus could play host to Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, Purdue or some combination of those Big Ten teams. Cincinnati could return for the second time in eight years.
I didn't see the committee locking us out of Columbus. Not that it will happen but it seems silly to take it off the table.
Discuss.
Draymond Green needs to be in the running, too.
I find myself pulling for O I H O. Maybe if I lived in the mitten I would feel some kind of state loyalty.
Izzo bias is apparently stronger than Sullinger bias. Good to know!
I feel the opposite. This is probably the most likable OSU team in any sport I can think of IMO. Sullinger, while he does whine about officiating, is generally a classy person and his dad is awesome. Craft is a very good defensive player. I played against Buford in high school and he's a nice kid. Thomas is the only OSU player I don't like and that's mostly because he doesn't do much on defense. I don't like Matta, but I don't like many opposing coaches. I don't like OSU, but there aren't alot of obnoxious personalities on their team like there has been in the past (BJ Mullens, Evan Turner, old man Oden, Ron Lewis etc.)
The only reason I see why Craft would get on someone's nerves is that he gets away with being handsy on defense quite a bit. But when you build the reputation as being the best on ball defender in the conference, you're going to get away with alot. Sullinger is a nice kid. He whines about officiating too much for my liking as well, but there aren't alot of players out there that don't whine. After games, I've never seen him really sulk and show up the opponent even afer a loss. I think he gets it from his dad, who is a really cool guy.
I don't know if the officiating would allow either team to play this way in the NCAA tournament.
Izzo is an angry elf.
Don't mess with Tyrion Lannister
that old white ref has been killing sparty all day long. You figured he would be the guy to T up Izzo
I don't mind. Izzo should get T'd up everytime he walks onto the court to yell. It's against the rules and he does it every game, sometimes even during play.
every coach in america does that. From Freshman level HS ball to the pros. If that happened then teams would be down to student assistants coaching games in the middle of the 1st half.
They do it because they can get away with it. If you stress that it's going to be a point of emphasis next year and start enforcing the rule, it'll stop. There's no reason for that to be tolerated. They have their little box that they can roam in. They don't need to step onto the court.
I've never understood why officials put up with so much crap from coaches. Every year they talk about new points of emphasis, but for some reason this is never one.
What was the ref thinking there?
