HELLO: Gareon Conley
Other sites are reporting that 6'2 CB from Massillon, OH - Gareon Conley has indeed committed to Michigan.
One site uses his twitter as the source. Another says he was waiting until today to make it public. And a third said it's official and announced.
Obviously a big pickup. Michigan needs a bigger CB, and if he continues to grow (and can tackle), he may grow into a FS. This puts Dymonte Thomas at SS, Jourdan Lewis remains at CB and maybe we still have a shot for a Kendall Fuller. If we get say a Su'a Cravens, then he'd likely remain at CB.
Right now, either way, it's a big time pickup! Whether it was truly official last night, right now or this afternoon. WELCOME!!! Go Blue!
Note: I'll change the title when I see it more publicized or when a MOD says it's okay.
[ED:BISB - Changed title. Feel free to change back if/when things are confirmed]
[OP: Changed back!]
It seems if you are willing to put the guy's name in the post, it'd be alright to put the name in the thread title.
I'm not sure if I should be excited or not.
It's happening...I just didn't want it plastered on the front page if the kid was waiting until noon or something.
He's definitely verballed and the coaches know.
I just figured if it's not on the front page of MGoBlog, Scout and Rivals yet...they may be respecting something that I don't know about. So I'm not going to put it on the front page either.
However, he's BLUE!
Get excited!

You put his name in the post, though. I guess making a Hello thread makes you important?
March 10th, 2012 at 12:38 PM ^
It's official. Per Trieu.
I just want to say to ohio....all of your CB's are belong to us!
Loved this kids film, he can tackle, blitz, cover and return kicks, Go Blue!!!
Cravens would definitely end up at safety. Free safety, Thomas at SS...and we'd, on paper, have the best freshman back 2 in the country.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:01 AM ^
Cravens is more like a SS/WLB, and while Thomas is similar to this, he is more of someone who can roam deep than Cravens. Not to mention Mich is recruiting him as a RB
March 10th, 2012 at 10:02 AM ^
Cravens or Thomas? Either one, this would be the first I've heard of that.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:36 AM ^
Cravens is being recruited by Michigan primarly as a safety, according to Tremendous.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:51 AM ^
With an extraordianry talent like Cravens you take him for wherever he wants to play and see what happens when he gets on campus.
Meanwhile Conley is strictly a corner and Dymonte could play either safety spot - which is what Mattison wants from all of his safeties eventually.
March 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM ^
But the fact still remains, IMO, if Michigan landed both Thomas and Cravens, Cravens is more of a SS than Thomas. Cravens one weakness is that he isn't really someone you want to put in the deep third. He is a lot like Taylor Mays in that regard, great hitter, great athletisism coming down into the box, but may struggle a bit in the deep third.
March 10th, 2012 at 11:21 AM ^
Agreed.
Who are the top FS prospects?
Personally, I like the idea of that being Jarrod Wilson...but if we're going to add a FS to this class. Who's it going to be?

how good would this back 7 be:
CB: lewis
FS: dymonte
SS: cravens
CB: conley
am i the only one who still thinks we NEED an elite corner in this class? i think that should be one of our top priorities
March 10th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
We may have an elite corner in this class. Time will tell. I think the last elite corner M had on campus was JT Turner and turns out he wasn't elite while here.
And don't forget we still have CB Richardson and FS Wilson from just 1 year before. It will be nice having depth at DB for the first time in a while.
I'm pretty sure we're recruiting Cravens as a running back.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:16 AM ^
Thats false. Tremendous did an interview with him where he specifically said the coaches are recruiting him for Safety, but may get some snaps on offense.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:55 AM ^
I was going off what I read on TTB's scouting report of him from last week. Thanks for the clarification everyone.
March 10th, 2012 at 11:13 AM ^
That was based on some erroneous reporting from elsewhere. I'm glad we're recruiting him as a safety, too, because he's a better defender than he is a runner/receiver.

My impression is that we are recruiting Su'a as an Athlete. He can play Safety but may also line up at RB or WR.

Montravius*?
Looking forward to years of listening to announcers tripping over how to pronounce ****** ******.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:02 AM ^
Just remember, "It's spelt Raymond Luxury-Yacht, but it's pronounced Throatwobbler Mangrove"
This would be an excellent pickup and, from the look of it, another step in shutting down entire portions of the field to traffic. Welcome, Mr. Conley (at some point today).

I can't help but reply to another (presumed) Monty Python fan.
Rest in peace, Graham Chapman.

Suprisingly this may actually help Lou Holtz
this is a nice pick up. he will make a great cb or saftey. i wish we could land Cravens but i still thimk its a pipe dream even with a visit.
we are recruiting cravens as a RB
March 10th, 2012 at 10:02 AM ^
He may get a chance at RB if we land him, but he would be a safety first and foremost.
To clarify the running back situation, Su'a said that Michigan offered him as a safety and that the opportunity for him to play running back is there. My guess is that it wouldn't be in a primary role and that he'd be a potential two-way player used in certain situations.

If you got that from me, I made a mistake there. I had heard that was the case, when in fact he was just 'getting a shot' there. My mistake.
possibly more. Couple that with two BTT wins over Ohio and Sparty and another W over ND would make for an excellent continuation on the "greatest weekend" trend, wouldn't it?
March 10th, 2012 at 10:07 AM ^
Alright...Alright
...it absolutely would be brother. Ab-so-lute-ly.

It's posted on the scout.com free board, and the mods have pinned it to the top. Don't know why it's not on the front page just yet so again...I'll wait. But there you have it.
I'm going to go wash my hands now...hate posting twitter stuff.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:06 AM ^
if we beat ohio, msu and nd this weekend while also getting ty isaac can i party with no pants on??
March 10th, 2012 at 10:03 AM ^
he would be doing the hat thing.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:37 AM ^
Totally agree with you... it was nice to hear a highly sought after national recruit take a shot at the egos of other highly sought after national recruits.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:05 AM ^
Good Pickup for UofM. Tall, lanky corner who appears to have long arms and good cover skills.
Welcome aboard sir.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:13 AM ^
Hope it's true, but don't want to start celebrating until it's officially official
March 10th, 2012 at 10:20 AM ^
****** ******: The First 12* recruit ever!
March 10th, 2012 at 10:24 AM ^
4*- Potential All-Conference
5*- Potential All-America
6*- Lock #1 Pick
-
12*- Potential cure cancer, end hunger, bring world peace
13*- Potential Denard
March 10th, 2012 at 10:27 AM ^
actually he's an 11* with an asterisk because the ranking was hand timed.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:45 AM ^
Would that make him an 11**?
March 10th, 2012 at 10:48 AM ^
Four FAKES out of Five because it was not electronically timed
March 10th, 2012 at 10:23 AM ^
As of 15 hours ago he claimed he was verbally committing "tomorrow" which means today, Saturday.
March 10th, 2012 at 10:38 AM ^
Would that be a verbal pre-commit? Or a pre-verbal commit?
