He's a 6.0 on Rivals - which means he has a great chance to be a 5-star.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:37 PM ^
That would easily give Shane 5*, along with a slew of other prospects, so Sugar Shane will have his work cut out for him - RB Ty Issac, WR Treadwell and Foster, and TE Adam Brenneman are all in the top 32, along with LB EJ Levenberry. This could be another top class for UM.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:33 AM ^
I don't know about early rankings, but Rivals had thirty-two 5*'s in their final 2012 rankings.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
At #16 overall and currently the #3 QB in the class (a much deeper QB class than we saw last year), he will definitely have an opportunity to earn his 5th star. Last summer he really stood out in the 7 on 7s. He likes to get a lot of exposure, so I'd say its likely that he will impress over the next few months.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:30 AM ^
I really didn't expect him to be this high so soon. Kudos to the Michigan staff for being the first in line for that ride.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:44 PM ^
He also got an offer from ohio yesterday. He is expected to visit again either this week or next week with his mom. Do you think you guys will offer him?
February 8th, 2012 at 2:01 PM ^
Not just Ohio, but he also got an offer from Ohio State.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
I think we'll do it later in the process. That school doesn't traditionally produce a lot of D-1 talent, so I doubt it. Nick is all about cementing his presence at schools who produce a lot of talent.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
A few months ago, the only hold up to his commitment was getting his mom on campus to see if she liked it. I think he's said since then that he wants to wait a while now, but still it's great that we can get his mom on campus.
February 8th, 2012 at 3:41 PM ^
This is just pure speculation on my point, but I'm guessing that our staff reached out to him to take a visit.
Hoke doesn't like doing the big "junior day" type of stuff that other schools like to do. He would rather get more 1 on 1 time with the recruits. I hope he does the BBQ at the Big House thing again because that always seems like a hit with the families and the recruits.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM ^
Don't forget Jake Butt at #96
Edit: Beat to it
February 8th, 2012 at 11:30 AM ^
I can't believe with all of the offers and hype that LTT has been receiving that his name is nowhere to be seen in this list.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM ^
He has an impressive offer list for sure, and he has already taken a lot of visits. Very early for a Bama offer. It will be interesting to see how he sorts out in the combines and camps this summer.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:57 AM ^
any of our scouts (magnus, etc.) have an opinon on why LTT isn't ranked?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
Aren't most of the rankings at this point based off camp/combine results?
February 8th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
Actually it is a combination of tape, combine/camp and actual live game scouting. The only problem is that there are only so many analysts that can make it out to the games.
If you are not that known early in the process, my guess is that analysts would rather go to games with big name guys.
We didn't really here about him until he got offered, and soon after that his recruiting took off with offers from across the country. It is pretty clear that the coaches got some tape before the recruiting services.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:31 AM ^
Nice try Martavious Odoms but you can't re-enroll in high school again under Montravious Adams (#33 on the list). We're too smart to fall for that.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:07 PM ^
Awesome. All your Names That Sound Like Martavious Odoms Are Belong To Us.
I wonder if Martavious 2.0 is also a mountain goat?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:30 PM ^
As a 6' 3" DT I would be very impressed if he was. DO WANT.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM ^
February 8th, 2012 at 11:34 AM ^
Shane will probably be a low 5-star right now. But a lot depends on his last season in high school.
Hopefully we can secure some of those other T100 offers.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:44 AM ^
His ranking likely depends on this summer 7-on-7 and camp performances more than anything. DLS stats won't affect his ranking to the national guys like other exposure.
Hey, at least we know he'll do well on the ESPN rankings now that he's chosen the UA game haha.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:35 AM ^
With our commit and the interest from the rest of the targets, I'd be very surprised if we didn't land at least 5 from the top 100. If they get one of the TEs (Butt or Breneman), one of the Illinois lineman (Pocic or Bosch...you could even throw a Chris Fox from Colorado in there) and they get one of the LBs they want (Levenberry, O'Daniel, or Kalambayi), they're set. It would be icing on the cake if they got someone like Sua Cravens or Kendall Fuller. Oh and that's not mentioning wide receivers like Foster and Treadwell.
It's early, but I feel really good about where this class can go.
February 8th, 2012 at 3:11 PM ^
Then you also have Treadwell, Isaac, and the two guys from Good Counsel (Fuller and O'Daniel). I'm drooling over the potential for success in this class. If we're B1G champions this year, watch out.
February 8th, 2012 at 3:32 PM ^
I was trying to be extremely conservative with the guys we get, so as not to get overly excited. Yeah, this has an all-time class type of feel though.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:35 AM ^
Great start to the 2013 class with all of the targets already inside the Top 100. Doesn't look like we should have any problem getting into the top 5 again.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
We already have 4 in the top 100. He's the lowest ranked, but ArDarius Stewart is my favorite.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
ArDarius? (sp?) Or if that is right, too bad his last name is so boring or he could be right up there for best names...
can you imagine ArDarius Centurion or something similar? Is that a player or a star millions of years away... no one would know.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
Good lord, this has the potential to be an absolutely insane class.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
Treadwell, Issaic, and Shane Morris would be a nasty combo on offense. Lavenberry and Cravens would be nice also.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
My biggest question....
Where is Logan Tulley Tillman??????? Seems odd that he's not top 100???????
February 8th, 2012 at 12:42 PM ^
Think it is Tuley-Tillman. But regardless of spelling, that was my question too. Honestly, though, I think that it isn't bad if we pull in guys who are great, regardless of the "star power" attributed by the rating services.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:27 PM ^
I can't say this with 100% confidence, but I do know that Logan cut off discussing his recruitment with the pay sites for about a month or so for a while. I've wondered if that's why he seems to be moving down certain boards before moving up. His fall from 37th to 84th (correct me if wrong) in the latest 247 Rankings I believe are a product of this. WIth the offers he's gotten and the schools that continue to call him, I don't see how he's not one of the top 100 players in the country.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:39 AM ^
February 8th, 2012 at 11:47 AM ^
Wow. Wouldn't be surprised to see more than a half dozen go blue. That would be fantastic.
On a related note, and I cannot explain this whatsoever: I watched an interview of Ty Isaac and as soon as I saw him without a helmet, I thought, "This guy actually looks like he would go to Notre Dame."
What about this interview makes me think Notre Dame? Pessimism?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:17 PM ^
Racism?
Stupid when you do that. Just some English pig. You do that, you go to the box. 2 minutes by yourself. You feel shame. (Embedding disabled for some reason).
Then you get free.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:51 AM ^
I can never remember but which service is usually more accurate when it comes to ranking and evaluating Midwest prospects?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:15 PM ^
Rivals did not have a midwest recruiting analyst up until about 6 months ago, when they promoted Hemholdt. This year, the midwest has better representation, and better than the usual talent (Michigan is a little down on depth, but Ohio and Illinois are absolutely loaded).
February 8th, 2012 at 11:53 AM ^
I have no idea on what plannet, Rivals thinks Max Browne is better than Shane Morris. That kids mechanics are a nightmare, his delivery looks like he's playing dodgeball. He gets happy feet too often, and his numbers are inflated. He has Rick Mirer written all over him.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:59 AM ^
But he's not an early commit to Michigan, so he can be hyped up to all the team sites. It's all about makin that easy internet money.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
I wouldn't even have Max Browne in my top 150.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:41 PM ^
I have a feeling if Shane would have accepted the AA game invite instead of the UA game invite he would ranked a little different.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:49 PM ^
Good grief. Shane Morris is the #16 player in the country and the #3 quarterback in the country. Are we really putting together conspiracy theories about why he's ranked so low?
The whole world isn't out to screw us.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:26 PM ^
Hey man, it's not our fault. We wouldn't be so paranoid if everyone wasn't out to get us.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:32 PM ^
everyone everywhere who isn't a Michigan fan. You don't think that those assholes in Latvia have been working against us all these years? Look at their flag! It's red! Don't you see?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:18 PM ^
Wierd to see all of those Texas high school kids on the list and none of them have committed to Texas yet. Texas is usually is out ahead of everyone.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:24 PM ^
Jake Raulerson already committed to Texas.
Also, Texas usually has a junior day in the late winter/early spring where a bunch of kids show up on campus and get offered...and about 15 of them will commit when they get offered. That's how Mack Brown rolls.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:20 PM ^
Josh Helmholdt: Alliance (Ohio) Marlington safety Dymonte Thomas is one of the fastest players in the Midwest for 2013, and overall an outstanding athlete. As a junior, though, he mostly played close to the line of scrimmage and we did not get a chance to see much of him in coverage. So, we did not get too bullish on his ranking until we were able to more thoroughly assess his coverage skills.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:23 PM ^
Sweet, looks like 5 or 6 in the top 100 is realistic.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
No other recruiting site seems to think of Tyrone Swoopes as highly, I woner what they see in him. His offer list isn't stellar either, I know it's early, but it's not even comparable to LTT's who is MIA from this list.
