Sugar Bowl Pseudo Clowniforms

We're wearing the away jerseys for the Sugar bowl... but no! Not our "normal" away jerseys. Not Last year's away jerseys that we wore for much of this year (trim piping). Not the bumblebee awful-forms from the Michigan State game.... but a combination of them!
I personally don't like the Block M on the left chest. Or the shoulder stripes. The undershirt-as-uniform sleeves is a trend that I've found very interesting recently... but I dunno if the Blue Sleeve is as good as if it were a white sleeve, maize outline of a blue M (modern analog to the Thomas picture below). What is it with adidas and making us have stripes? In general I'd say these are OK, nothing earth shattering, and for a change not bad.
Those are the replicas you can buy.

I'm sorry I like them.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
Yeah, I do too, anything is better than that piping.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
I'm a little fed up with the fact that we'll have worn FIVE different uni's this year, but I feel like selling "special" uniforms with a Bowl patch is a regular AD money grab.
In terms of these specific unis, I agree, the road unis are liable to be tweakedwith more than the home without upsetting people. My personal favorite road uni is this:
Which makes me wonder if they were going for that style block M on the shoulder with the undershirt. Modern jerseys don't really have sleeves, I thought a white sleeve with this style M would look even better.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
I love them.
December 13th, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
excessive maize makes the uniforms worse than people realize. thank god we don't have maize jerseys (yet). I think these are solid uni's but I would like to see the Wolverines break out the all whites they wore in the 70s once next year.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:57 PM ^
I don't know why but I love the uniform variety. I love all the Pro Combat uniforms that Nike makes and would love to see more from Adiddas for Michigan. I know we have the greatest tradition in college sports and all but a little variety here or there can't hurt.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
I hate it and don't understand how someone could like that much change in their supposed 'uniform'. I'm fine with a special change for a game every now and then but not every season, definitely not five times a season, and most certainely not five times a season with the uniforms that were worn. The stripes on the shoulders look stupid and only remind me of the Notre Dome and Michigan State uniforms which could have turned Medusa into stone from the ugliness.
December 13th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
Amen. It's not even really about any particular one of these incarnations looking bad. It's the whole mentality that the greatest heritage in college football, the patrimony of Michigan football, isn't good enough. It's the fact that no one actually believes in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" anymore.
We have something brilliant and everyone recognizes it. We've successfully snagged recruits out of Ohio on the basis of our helmet wings alone. Quit fucking around with it!
December 13th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
Take the block M off the left chest and the stripes and I too...will love them.
I wish we'd just wear a basic jersey like our home uniforms.
One "tweak" I'd like to try is an ALL white jersey with MAIZE numbers (like the home uniforms) and blue outline around the numbers.
Nothing else. No stripes, no piping, no collar, no block M...just the EXACT same uniform as our home, but white instead of blue...and blue around the maize numbers.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
I like them too
December 14th, 2011 at 1:18 PM ^
Not as bumble-beeish as the ND game, so thats good. I dig them too. Not sure what all the uproar is about - I think they look cool.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
Mess with the away uniforms as much as you want as long as the result is leaving the home uniforms alone.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
Definitely agree with this. Our current away uniforms are pretty lame. Im excited to see these on the players....
OT: how did you like the MAcc program? Any advice for an aspiring accountant?
December 13th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
Going in I never saw myself as a life-time auditor, merely as a means to take and pass the CPA. I spent three years at a big 4 and have since moved on elsewhere. Classes were fine and all, and if you have a lot of friends left on campus it would be great; unfortunatly, all of my friends had graduated and moved by the time school started and lets just say that Year 5 < Undergrad.
Advice? Pass the CPA before you start work. Take it seriously (like it actually requires studying and knowing what the hell you're looking at). I was never much of a studier and had a tough time on the first section I took until I really focused.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
who cares?
December 13th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
I dont mind them. At least they got the pants right.
December 13th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
...make us faster and stronger, I'm all for them.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
But I think they look really good. Not as busy as the ones we wore at MSU, but has a little flash nonetheless.
<br>We whine about tradition, but the players like them. Let's let the guys who are bringing our tradition back choose what they want to wear.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
You should get all the plusses.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
Not really 'bringing tradition back' if they wear different jerseys... Just sayin'.
December 13th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
Michigan's tradition is not in their jerseys, its in their winning.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:45 PM ^
Those look great. Sorry if you don't like anything new... these are cool.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:48 PM ^
yep how I feel
December 13th, 2011 at 1:48 PM ^
I'm not a fan of the sleeves, but the rest is very nice, and I wouldn't even be opposed to wearing it as our normal away uniform. I'd like to see it without the sleeves and some different shoulder options, but I like it better than the piped-out uniforms we've moved towards the past 4-5 seasons.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:51 PM ^
Overall I give them a meh.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
I think taking away the striped sleeves would give us the best road jersey we could get. Our colors aren't great for road jerseys but I think they'd be fine without the stripes. I just fucking hate stripes actually...
December 13th, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
I like! I would take them as our away uniforms for next year.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
Umm...Those are fuckin sweet.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:51 PM ^
They'll probably rip and get replaced with the old ones half-way through the game. That being said, they're not the worst looking but I'd prefer no stripes.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
the grip and stretch problem.
As for the under sleeve - much better than those busy maize ones at MSU.
I hope they stick with the maize pants as shown.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:51 PM ^
shut is slick son! like them
December 13th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
who cares about the road unis.
just no more white pants, please. fuck that shit.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
....but I do like them otherwise. Overall, not too shabby.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
Not my cup of tea but frankly what I think doesn't matter. If putting variations and special jerseys out there excites the kids who this program is built around and for, then go for it. I'd prefer if we don't approach Oregon territory, though. I like what Oregon does, but not for Michigan.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:35 PM ^
But if the kids want to be Oregon, I guess we'll have to be Oregon judging by the logic everyone's using.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
Recruits dig XFL names, we should incorporate those as well!! Afterall, it's all about the recruits and players; the fans and alumni should have no say.
December 13th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
you're right. we should do whatever the alumni and fans say. SIT DOWN. STOP THAT CLAPPING FERGODSAKES. FULLBACK DIVES ON EVERY PLAY. SCOREBOARDS DONT NEED TO BE DIGITAL. GET OFF MY LAWN.
HARUMPH.
HARUMPH.
December 13th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
Oooo, you want a straw-man battle! I can do that too: So, when you're an alum, once you graduate, your opinion stops mattering. And if you never did go to U-M at all, whether or not you support the team with money and stuff, well, your opinion never did matter in the first place. Let's turn the program into one big Logan's Run where once you turn 21 and graduate, you're dead to the program. Got it.
December 14th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
basically, yes.
If the color and content of our jerseys are going to fundamentally change your feelings for Michigan football or alter your desire to watch or spend money on Michigan football then maybe the problem lies with you and not with the jerseys?
I don't want us to be Oregon but to say that nothing should change ever is taking it from one extreme to another.
December 13th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
They like doing different jerseys. I don't see what the big deal is.
December 13th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
Obviously we are going to have to take some points off the Hoke Gets It scoreboard.
But yes - also obviously, "I think the players are wrong here," is totally, 100% synonymous with "screw the seniors." Right in the ear, in fact.
Let me ask you something: If Adidas doesn't come down and "show some concepts" and nobody ever says anything about alternate uniforms, does that make the seniors mopey and unhappy?
December 13th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
Moreover, if Dave Brandon didn't allow Adidas to come down and "show some concepts" would the players be any less enthusiastic about the program of Sugar Bowl. Bo would have in the Adidas exec's face (if not worse) at the idea.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:27 AM ^
Kids like the uniform thing. I'm their age, and so do I. It's the new thing, and I understand why some don't like it.
But we don't know who pushed for this to happen again. Maybe the players did. Maybe Brandon did. Adidas proposed it, but the players could have had a role in that.
Either side could have easily said no. If the players wanted to go with normal road jerseys, they could have said no to the alternate jerseys. If the players wanted alternate jerseys, Hoke and the coaching staff could have said no.
Either way, it was agreed upon and as long as the people with the program are happy, I really don't see what the big deal is.
December 13th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
I would have no problem if they just came out and said we are trying to make more money, so we came out with these Sugar Bowl uniforms.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
the Michigan staff has proven that it is way, way, smarter than total failures like the New York Yankees, the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, and other teams who have deluded themselves into thinking that a clean, classic, and consistent look is worth a lot. Perhaps the basketball team will soon adopt Detroit Piston teal as a fourth color.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
Add to that list - any NFL team, ever. Seriously - when do major NFL teams ever mess with their uniforms? Denver is the only one that immediately comes to mind, and their new logo / unis still look like shit compared to the old ones.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
Bucs, chargers, pats, cardinals...
Lions added the black accents. Wasn't a major change relatively speaking, but it certainly was a major fuck up.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:38 PM ^
....Vikings, Bears, Bills, Bengals....
....yeah, the NFL is actually a pretty poor example of teams not messing with classic looks. The only reason they don't do it more is because the NFL has iron-fisted rules about how often you can change your look, how long you must take to do it, and how often you can wear third jerseys.
December 13th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
Aside from slightly changing the stripes a bit, the Bears uniforms have looked the same since the 50s.
December 13th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
lol
And I'm a Bears fan. It's hard to find any fanbase that hasn't been hit by the alternate jersey noizeee.
