i agree that the current punishment is expulsion from the team only-------i meant to use the word "could" with the word expelled in the sense of "might" [which allows for "might not"]--------apologies for not being more precise
but i also strongly suggest that michigan is far less attentive to an anti-social behavior such as antisemitism when compared to its response toward other hateful behaviors such as prejudice against gays
anyway-----given the latest i have heard it may be impossible to know from this case whether i am wrong or not
I must admit that I was surprised to read that anti-semitic slurs/vandalism could get a person expelled from a modern university. While I have zero inside information, I suggest Mr. Bacon's update makes more sense.
My memory is that Drew's father--Harold Schock logged a lot of ice time as a top four defenseman while he was at michigan [or maybe a top three d-man? sloan schock halko?]. Anyway, let's hope the apple fell close to the tree.
"When I was at Michigan in the early 2000s and the school’s admissions policies were national legal news, the College Republicans were given permission to set up in Angell Hall selling “Affirmative Action Bagels” that were $1.00 for white customers and 10 cents for Black students. I doubt any Black student in the history of the school has ever made it through their scholastic career without at least some racist incident on campus."
Given the close proximity of these two sentences are we meant to conclude that any person who opposes/opposed what was called "affirmative action" is/was a stone racist?
on the other hand, if much of his goal is self-promotion there is a lot to be said for being a "big fish in a small pond"------or maybe even "the only game in town"
and do not forget the near legendary banner at the top of the page [from quite a few years ago] ----mgoblog is the #1 michigan site in the central asian steppe
I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding caused by my tweet. The German article only claims that contract talks between Franz Wagner and Alba will begin in the immediate future. Seems like no final decision has been made yet and every option, including Michigan, is still in play.
in fact, i think a good argument could be made [or, maybe i should say at least i would argue] that michigan might have been a contender every year [or at least an ncaa qualifier] if michigan had just had continuously competent goaltending each year, even with the other recruiting/effort problems discussed here.
not clear that "pos" is the correct title someone who went to segregated schools as a child, harvard undergrad and law school and former supreme court justice, who is getting his full pay contracted for with michigan state [state has the right to withhold $$$ if fired for cause]
if young had done wrong, then why did not udpa castigate young for it now that young is fired? even worse, why pay young in full---why not claim the termination was "for cause"?
1] please consider nudging up rb ron johnson, fantastic rbs that followed johnson like billy taylor, eventual-wingback glenn doughty, gordie bell, etc seemed like a downgrade compared to the exceptional johnson to me
2] please consider honorable mention for 50's rb jim pace-----racked up lots of yards and touchdowns for pretty mediocre michigan teams, team mvp one year and an all-american also
and yes mel anthony was really fast for his size, and maybe a little love for teammates tom mack and frank nunley
Let's assume Matthews does not get drafted. Then he can still play in the development league stateside, or professionally overseas and work on his game [including his jumper] 24/7, because he does not have any more academic responsibilities. And, he gets paid, not a king's ransom, but he does get paid. A young talent can make a nice living in Europe, and even G-league money now might be needed more than possible [not guaranteed] money later
How is it good practice for michigan's lawyers to put forth 1/2 of a case? If Michigan wanted to get a favorable ruling, then its only choice was to back up the truck and dump everything it had on mississippi

then why do so many death sentence prisoners take an appeal to a higher court to try to prevent execution, and no life sentence prisoners take an appeal demanding to be killed
on the fourth and one----michigan gave the ball to senior fb fritz seyferth-----rather than bigger/faster/but younger fb ed shuttlesworth--------i know it's only one play but using the more experienced player rather than the more talented player seems like something that it discussed on this board even now
technically, the police have requested warrants-------but no decision hasbeen made one way or the other as to whether complaints/warrants will be authorized or denied

michigan has played illinois 94 times, more than any other team except minny, michigan state, and ohio state
plus as other people have pointed out, the "teach-em-a-lesson-for-moeller-and-we-hate-mike-white" games; the mid-eighties games [great goalline stand led by hammerstein, field goal block by heren to save a tie, etc.,] , games agqainst red grange [ok, that's long ago, but still....]
anyway, i think that there is a good argument that through modern realignments, scheduling, etc., that by not playing a team like illinois that we have played since almost forever, that we are losing more than we are gaining
Anything that causes college basketball to more closely resemble the NBA game is a bad thing, [btw, I like the NBA, but I like the differences between college and the pros]. But I think that the shorter the shot clock, the less time there is for the current variety in college ofenses.
on october 29, i got an automated polling call on my home phone in michigan
the beginning was pretty standard: if you support rick snyder [r] for governor, press one, if you support [d] mark schauer, press two, etc, then to the us senate race, and so on
then the call turned to the election of msu trustees and u-m regents [i do not recall getting "robo-polled" about those races before, but maybe i have just forgotten]
then the call asked if i strongly approved of dave brandon [press one] approved of db [press two], disapproved db [press three] strongly disapproved [press four]------the strongest negative option i heard was "four"
then the call asked if i thought brady hoke should be fired----yes [press one] no [press two]
i hit 4 for brandon and 1 for hoke
anyway, i was surprised to [apparently] learn that the brandon/hoke situation was important enough to a political party [i am assuming that a political group must have paid for the poll] to poll voters about
could it be that MY strong disapproval of a.d. dave brandon was the final blow from which he could not recover??

is it certain that speight has been medically cleared to play for michigan? or any school?
then why do so many death sentence prisoners take an appeal to a higher court to try to prevent execution, and no life sentence prisoners take an appeal demanding to be killed
during the 3rd quarter and got one field goal while peters was still playing qb-------michigan was beaten regardless
what i have heard/read is that malzone is such a strong michigan guy that he wants to stay with the team for as long as he can

Crisler was full [or at least nearly full for the game.
i suggest that if this continues that Michigan should host a t least a couple of rounds in the NIT
It is always harder to pull a young man far away from his family/home
....the statement "every month a Police Officer shoots someone for no reason" is complete and utter nonsense
Does the spirit of DB still infect the offices at the athletic department?
Or, is Michigan so desparate to play ND that it will agree to anything?

The defense played another remarkable game against maryland
But, what college qb is successful/effective when he is pressured? For that matter, pro qbs have a devil of a time when the defense gets pressure
just our goalie troubles alone would seem to make first place even in a weak big ten hockey conference unlikely

sorry---double post
i agree with #23 above written by nyquist
michigan had a lot of baserunners against the #2 and the #3 florida pitchers---so game #1 last night was michigan's best chance to win
i am afraid it will be much tougher against all-american haeger
in the last three years
zero ncaa appearances
zero league tournament championships
zero regular seaon league championships
and the same goalie situation for the 2015-2016 season

right, and my memory is that wheatley was cut by both the ny giants and miami before having great success with oakland
