Kovacs out, Woolfolk to safety, Countess starting at CB
According to the official Michigan Football Twitter account:
I’m not too worried, mostly due to Countess’ play, but this is something to keep an eye on.

Then things will be a bit dicey in our secondary. I think losing Kovacs is a big deal.

I do not mind Woolfolk at safety but I hate having whoever comes in to replace him when he goes down.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:26 AM ^
This is a real risk.

Kovacs is arguably the best player on our D this year... Hopefully this is only a one game absence and not a "Never Forget" type thing.

Me no likey...

We all need to grit our teeth to make up for the lack of grit on the field.
I hope Kovacs is alright, he's proven himself to be our most consistent defender these past couple of years.

it won't be a big deal for today. Purdue likes short dinky throws, so maybe it won't hurt too badly in this particular game. If the runners get to where a safety needs to tackle them it shouldn't be a huge deal because if that happens, it's probably the linebackers problem to begin with.
That being said, hold me someone....i'm scared.

Also rumors that M-Rob is still a no-go so we're really thin at safety right now. Carvin the only serviceable backup and you assume the coaches would want to use Gordon at nickel occasionally.

This came outta nowhere.

Thank god for the fort. And i mean that.

Kovacs is the heart and soul in the secondary. He is a leader and i am not sure how healthy Troy is. Kovacs is the player that makes a impact in the Secondary.
GO BLUE!!
October 29th, 2011 at 11:29 AM ^
I think the coaches are taking a calculated risk. Kovacs is banged up, needs some time for the rest of the season. If he is going to take a week off, this is it.
I prefer Woolfork at Safety frankly.
I don't like it much either, but with Purdue, you will with it.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:57 AM ^
Woorfork?
October 29th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
Was he hurt in the MSU game? I haven't heard anything of this nature before today. Anyone have any idea how serious it is?
October 29th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
I'm guessing it happened in practice fairly recently.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
Hurt it in practice. Brian's twitter speculated an MCL strain.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
Are you implying that Woolfolk hasn't been able to go a full game all year?
Oh yeah...uh oh.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
Looks like Taylor Lewan is limping during warm-up's. Nooooooooooooo
October 29th, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
Really starting to believe I have some quasi-PTSD thing going on. Reading this just gave me flashbacks to the last 3 years. Also, doesn't Woolfolk have something like half a functioning limb out of 4?
October 29th, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
I'm taping this game today due to wedding plans, and this will not help my worry factor.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
Is it a free bar? If so, have fun my Maize and Blue friend.
GO BLUE!!
October 29th, 2011 at 11:38 AM ^
We will miss Kovacs big time, but is it outragous to say that Countess is our best corner? I like that he is always playing up on his guy in man coverage.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
Think it's Floyd, but you might be right.

Countess is my favorite corner just becuase of that. I love how aggressive he is compared to the rest of the corners.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
that putting Woolfolk at safety is any indication of whether the coaches think Countess has beat him out. He simply has experience playing safety.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
Desmond Morgan is starting in place of Brandon Hawthorn apparently due to superior performance, not injury.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
This makes me sad, but I still am not going to overreact. This is a game that UM can win without Kovacs, and I rather have him healthy for the upcoming stretch. Will see quite a bit of Avery and (maybe) Robinson in, but hopefully the offense will move the ball well enough that Purdue will be in tough spots offensively all day.
October 29th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
We are fucked!!! Kovacs is a general back there and this will be a much closer game now.... Man I'm really bummed
October 29th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
Attitude.
October 29th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
Ok I'm gonna turn the frown upside down because we still have D-Rob... Let's go blue
October 29th, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
didn't need to hear that.
October 29th, 2011 at 12:06 PM ^
See I knew we were fucked with Kovacs out.... They don't score or get the 1st down if he is in the game

is it the same knee injury that he talks about in video?
October 29th, 2011 at 1:42 PM ^
I'm more worried about the O line injuries than any other position right now. We should still win this game handily though.
October 29th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
The defense is doing okay without him glad he's out and healing as we're going to need him back for the rest of the schedule.
October 29th, 2011 at 2:37 PM ^
Please let Kovacs be okay next week. I miss that no big play streak.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
He's questionable for next week, but I though Countess & Woolfolk both played well where they were.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:10 PM ^
He out gritted his health.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
Defense was ok, but Kovacs's presence was missed. Did we have any loose fumbles? Kovacs always seems to be making things happen. Hope he comes back soon.
October 29th, 2011 at 6:11 PM ^
Hope he can come back for the Iowa game
