Jim Schwartz likes Michigan's piped in music

I noticed that last night, I have mixed feelings about that comming to the pros, but i'm guessing the lions were not the first to play 7 nation army

Neither was michigan

There was an amusing moment during the game in Evanston, when our fans "took over" SNA by chanting to it when it was playing over the PA. The song was abruptly cut off.
October 11th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
yup it was great. forget the exact moment but it was a 1st down the people in our section turned laughed and started chanting.
October 11th, 2011 at 5:06 PM ^
My area (top rows of section 105) launched into the chant, and the combined efforts of the Michigan faithful definitely did drown out the weak offerings by those clad in purple.
Northwestern maybe be Chicago's Big Ten Team™, but Ryan Field surely is not Northwestern's Big Ten Stadium. That stadium...does not exist.
October 11th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
The Lions and Wolverines are a combined 11-0 when playing piped in music during the same season, so...I forgot where I was going with this one.
October 11th, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
I lost you at 11-0....I have a feeling and i'm trying not to get ahead of myself that there is a chance when I wake up monday morning that both my football teams will be undefeated still......
October 11th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
But both teams also had piped-in music in 2009 and 2010.

Never underestimate the power of the Schwartz!
October 11th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
...that I happen to share!
October 11th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
Before going to the UTL game I agreed with Brian on the piped-in music issue. But after seeing how much it engages the fans I totally disagree...music helps fires up the crowd and ultimately the team win.
October 11th, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
Who's right?
October 11th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
sorry for the multiple posts
October 11th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
I think piped-in music has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell even Jagmag is starting to believe it. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Seven Nation Army is a good start.
October 11th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
jagmag believes...
October 11th, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
it was pretty sweet though when no 1 left after the notre dame game and 100,000 people were singing that song

Still not getting it.

It's all clear now, thanks.

When I started this thread I had 278. I see my post has 7 upvotes, but I am still at 278. I checked the MGoBoard FAQ to see if upvotes had to be approved or something, but just see it saying you get 2 points per upvote. Looking at my MGoPoints page, it only lists the posts I've done and nothing else, so what am I missing?
Edit: Now 279 because of this post.

WHAT'S THE FIRST RULE ABOUT MGOPOINTS?!?!
October 11th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
Rule 1. You do not talk about mgopoints. Rule 2. you DO NOT talk about mgopoints.
October 11th, 2011 at 6:29 PM ^
Upvotes and downvotes haven't done anything for a long time. I'm sorry I broke Rule #1 about MGoPoints, but they no longer function as intended.

baby steps, our guys dont even know how to operate our humungo scoreboards yet.
piped in music and extremely loud crowds are new to the big house.
We will get there,
October 11th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
I remember that at some point last year they played enter sandman and the crowd didn't respond at all. It might have been a game that we were losing, though.
October 11th, 2011 at 11:50 PM ^
plus, that song is pretty intimately associated with VaTach, much like that Zombie Nation song is with Penn State. Though I'm not sure the crowd didn't respond for that reason; I just think much of the reason it gets VT hyped up is its history w the program.
I'm not sure that if you played Journey ("born and raised in SOUTHHHH DETROIIIIIIIT") it would have the same impact at VT as here, for example.
October 11th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
I know it pumps up the crowd but 7 nation army isn't our song the victors is.
October 11th, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
Don't fight the tide of new traditions. If our students wish to begin singing 7 nation army thats okay. Its a bonus that it is made in Detroit.
October 11th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
Who said we're only allowed one song during a game?
October 11th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
I am shocked that they are still using pipes to get this music into the stadium.
October 11th, 2011 at 10:17 PM ^
Seriously, you'd think Michigan Stadium would get with the times and install some tubes for fast internet downloads.
October 11th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
It was written by a local band, so personally I say we get dibs on it even if we weren't the first to use it.
October 11th, 2011 at 10:14 PM ^
Sorry, but Jack White divorced himself of being of the "local band" variety when he moved to Tennesee and claimed that Detroit didn't treat him right.

the intro to Bulls On Parade by Rage Against the Machine.
Curious for those who were at both the Under The Lights game and last night's Lions game - which crowd was louder?
October 11th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
Probably not a fair question to ask, since Ford Field is enclosed, and therefore acoustically advantaged.
October 11th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
who was at both and he said UTL. I had some friends at the Lions game last night (were not at UTL) who said they've heard louder.
October 11th, 2011 at 10:16 PM ^
If we really wanted to pump the Schwartz up, they should blast some Saxon, because Schwartz was down at Blondie's Sunday night for the Saxon show, believe it or not.
I mean, I knew that he was a metalhead, but I never would have pegged him as a NWOBHM disciple. Ha.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
Rookie question here, but who was first in using 7 Nation Army? I actually mistakenly thought that was ours first....
October 12th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
It was first some Italian soccer team, but in the U.S. it was almost certainly PSU. We were a few years behind them.
